2025-2026 Canadian Figure Skating

SMD’s 3A is actually quite good.
I was amazed seeing that clip.

Also, kudos to Deanne for being innovative with this backflip and I wonder what surprise she has in store for us. She already shocked me by winning the SP without even leaving the ice on the SBS jumps

And I have to say, Sara-Maude has done even nicer 3A in practice/warm ups... this one looks like it was in a program runthrough of some sort right ? So it could explain why it's not as nice as the others but dang... we will take it ;)

The full clip that Sara-Maude posted in her Instagram stories showed that it was the first jump in her free skate at High Performance Camp, so she could be attempting it at Nepela. Here's a full recording:

Our respective children are so good LOL

She gets good height on that. But even if she does it in international events will she finally get the marks she deserves. She has had some very good skates the last couple years - esp at 4CC, yet her GOEs and PCS are lower then other skaters who have major errors.

I thought that was going to have the whole of SMD's programme. It was looking beautiful, and then it stopped. :(

Maddie is one of the few to go clean yet had a couple low levels and lower GOE and PCS than some of them that had errors. But she seems to always keep plugging through. I am sure she will work on upping her levels. Now lets hope she can do a good Free, which might be hard with Kaori skating right before her.

I love how fired up Maddie seems in the short this season. Such a good program for her, if she gets higher levels I can see her scoring 70+ at Skate Canada.
I actually think there have been several times where she should have scored over 70 for sure. And I think the more she skates clean shorts the judges will be willing to reward her.

I have complete confidence in pairs team. Lia/Trennt had a very strong nationals and 4CC and they are so talented. Deanna and Max will have better programs and shes such a fighter, Kelly/Loucas were so impressive to me by the end of the season (I loved seeing them at Worlds), also Fiona/Ben I'm expecting a breakout season.
It's really too bad that pairs hit a low at worlds last season and there aren't three spots. Would love to have seen one of the younger teams get an Olympic spot.

For women, I'm so excited. Maddie had an amazing end of season with her best placement at Worlds ever, and I just can't imagine her losing the Olympics spot (but you never know in this sport.) Excited for Sara-Maude, Katherine, Kaiya, etc. Just a talented group of girls plus all the juniors. I'm also planning on going to Nationals in 2026, so seeing Lia Cho and her programs in person will be exciting.
I think Maddie's the favourite, but who knows?
I really need LaLa to get really good programs this year. I don't think they fit soft programs very well, would love something more fiery for them. Piper and Paul I NEED them to lock it in and be olympic champions, please please give them amazing programs. Third spot will be fun to see the competition for it.
Yes. Programs are going to be crucial to LaLa this season. No more major injuries is a good place to start. They were really hampered last season and lost a lot of momentum.

Piper and Paul have had some of the most brilliant programs of the last decade, but never in an Olympic year. Their Olympic material has always been bizarrely lacklustre. I'm really hoping they've been nursing an idea for the Olympic season that's going to knock everyone's socks off.
I don't follow Men's enough to know a ton, but I've always enjoyed Roman and I'm assuming he's the favorite for the Olympics but I'll just follow what people say here for that or if there's an upcoming senior who could take it.
Roman looked great in the LP at Cranberry, but Keegan is returning, there's Chiu, Gogolev....who knows? My heart would love to see Roman redeem himself after his terrible, terrible Olympic performance last time around.

Having a great short program and scoring over 70 in the short won't help Maddie unless she can get it together in the long. 3 tripes in Japan and only 105. She has not had a good free skate this season. We have seen from the 6th place short at worlds last year and 3rd place here above world medalists that the judges are willing to reward her when she skates well. But 105 in the free is not going to help her even at home. A free like this could keep her off the podium at home.

Robert Brodie writes about the backflip and also talks to Lajoie/Lagha:
“The first (idea), we were really into it. We started to practise and then the (music) rights, they said it’s going to be so expensive, so that’s a sad part that we needed to deal with,” said Lajoie, 24.

Added Lagha: “Then there was another (piece of) music and somebody else was using it. And for some reason, we couldn’t use that music.”
