Dutch Figure Skating 2025-26

Here's some results:
In pairs Daria and Michel were 5th at the Konshita Group Challenger. Not their best outing, but not their worst either. It was the first outing of the season. Let's hope they improve!

Angel Delavaque ended in 9th place at Varese JGP. Some problems with the jumps (like under rotations) but high levels for the parts in a programme that gets those.

For now, just a little cheer for kicking their season off for the three skaters!:jump::cheer:

A nice feature on the Dutch Skating Website with Niki Wories as well as Chelsea Verhaegh and Sherim van Geffen, all knowing that even if they qualified a spot at the Chinese Nebelhorn (though not mentioned in this terminology in the article, that's just me), they are not going to the OG but they really would like to see if their summer training has helped (and Niki even having suffered a broken bone) to increase their level. Chelsea and Sherim also mentioned that the ISU (not the Dutch federation but the ISU) is helping quite substantially in covering costs. Not for a coach to be there, but for themselves.

I've summarised the gist. Here's the Dutch feature itself:

Well, a not so good result for Chelsea and Sherim at the Rhythm Dance at Chinese Nebelhorn. They're in 18th place with only 48.15 points. Not that I thought they would be in contention for the top 4/5. But I did expect them to score a little higher.

You know...if you sue your national "rivals" to get them out of the way instead of trying to beat them fair and square by improving your skating...karma is a bitch

Although I appreciate the efforts of all Dutch skaters and will cheer for them ( :hap10: :hap10: ), they weren't at their best at the Olympic Qualifier. Niki had a bit of a melt down, both in the SP and the FS, and ended in 23rd place. Chelsea and Sherim did a little better (very innovative lifts), but also not spectacular and ended in 16th place.

Our Skating Federation has published an article on the website why Daria and Michel have started the season really early: they need to achieve 173.89 points in a competition in the fall. They are used to the fact that they generally start slowly, and build up during the course of the season so they aren't worried yet. They mentioned that the points gained at Kinoshita cup were okay for the time of the year. But they can't wait until the second part of the season to achieve this point-goal. I for one wish them a lot of luck! The article is below (as usual in Dutch, so I have translated the gist of it above):

There was also a small item about Chelsea and Sherim in a newsarticle. They found the Olympic qualifier a great adventure, but were hampered by a collision in the warm up for the FD. The rest of this news article is about speed skating:

Interesting weekend for all those who follow this thread:

Daria and Michel (pairs) compete at Nebelhorn Trophy
Chelsea and Sherim (ID) as well as Julia van Dijk (W) compete at Nepela Memorial.

Kahlan Gooijer is skating at JGP Baku this week too! 31st after SP with 31.58, following unexpected falls during the entry of the Loop and the Fly Sit Spin :'(
Best of luck for Free Skate, cheering for you!!!

I am terrible. I've said it before that I tend to forget the juniors, and this is another example of that. Thank you @fia_nrt for this. I certainly wish Kahlan had done better, but it is her first JGP ever. Let us both hope, she has more success in the Free. And..I am sure she'll appreciate the cheering! :hap10: :hap10: :hap10:

Update:
Daria and Michel are in 8th place at Nebelhorn after the SP with 62.49 points. The were 17 pairs, really a lot. Well done guys! :hap10: :hap10: :laugh3::cheer:

Kahlan Gooier is in 31st place after the SP at JGP Baku. She is doing this for the first time, and had quite a few mishaps. I am hoping for better in the FS! :hap10::hap10::hap10:

Julia van Dijk competes at Nepela Memorial tomorrow. Let's hope she does well after losing 1 and a half seasons due to injury! :cheer::cheer:

Julia van Dijk is in 14th place after the SP at Nepela Memorial with 51.14 points, which to me is not bad at all after being out for so long. Well done, keep it up! :cheer: :cheer: :cheer:

Kahlan Gooijer ended up in 30th place in Baku. A somewhat better FS than the Short. I hope it's not too dicouraging, it was her first time. I'm cheering anyway! :hap10: :hap10: :hap10:

Sadly, Daria and Michel had a horrifying FS wich a rather scary fall. :cry:They ended in 12th (13th for the FS). You could clearly see it was a new programme in some smaller things (like being less 'together' in certain steps, also Daria not landing a throw which she usually does) but that horrible fall at the end of the last lift clinched it. It seemed both were okay afterwards if very unhappy (Michel especially) but it was a real hold your breath moment.:jaw:

Poor Daria and Michel. I hope they won't be discouraged to keep on going for the 173.89 points. Their SP was really good, now to get that FS sorted. I'll be there to cheer them on! :hap10::hap10:

That was so scary. There have been a few lift problems across the pairs field but this was the worst one. I'm glad nothing major seems to have happened.

At Nepela Memorial Julia van Dijk ended in 15th place with 140.49 point. A great effort after her injury year. :cheer: :cheer: :cheer:
Chelsea and Sherim remained in 10th place with 140.28 points.

I know they're not skating for The Netherlands any more but still: Hanna Jakucs and Alessio Galli have split. It seems they have gone back to Hungary in the last stages, but it was not to continue together. Here's their message:

At the Solidarity Cup JGP Lucca Dijkhuizen will represent The Netherlands in the (jr) women's discipline.
As far as I know, there will be no Dutch skaters at the Denis Ten memorial challenger or at the Trophy Metropole in Nice, France .

At the Budapest trophy which takes place a week later (10-12 october) Jolanda Vos will represent The Netherlands in women, while Chelsea and Sherim will participate in the ID competition. No Dutch presence in juniors.
