Entries/Quotas for 2026 Olympics

I had a thought (during work, yay me!) to make a list of skaters whose participation depends on them getting the citizenship of the country they skate for now. Of course, citizenship does not guarantee they go to the Olympics in the case of the bigger feds, but it sure helps!

It is not a complete list; please shout if you have more info, or if I am wrong

Criteria:
  • represents a qualified NOC and has a good chance of being sent should the Admin Gods allow
  • has/achives TES min
  • has a realistic chance of getting citizenship
  • hasn't yet competed in the Olympics representing their current adopted country

Just updated the list based on the interview CPOM gave a few days ago

Care to summarize as I doubt many people are fluent in Latvian language ?

Potential Olympian Kuฤผiลก is prevented from obtaining Latvian citizenship due to his poor language skills.

That is the headline.

It will be tougher now. Kirills Korkacs just got his minimums
I don't speak Lativan either, but Google translate did a passable job for me. The headline doesn't tell the whole story, as there is a proposal to give him citizenship despite his linguistic weakness. The Article also discussed Korkacs and his lack of the minimum score necessary to compete in the Olympics. As Jeanie 19th notes, Korkacs now being eligible changes things.

The article also mentions other athletes who may compete for Latvia in Milan in other sports.

Reading the whole article, I would have put "has been prevented" instead of "is prevented" to note that things could change. The difference may be due to the headline writer or to Google translate.

I am aware google translator works fine but usually, when I do provide something in French for instance, I do provide a translation/summary for people as 1) it saves them the hassle of going through a translator, 2) it prevents imprecisions that are common with using translators.

Thanks for the precisions... so I guess it's up to the Latvian fed to give the spot to one of their current citizens or tot he gvt to grant citizenship to someone else who doesn't speak the language. Seems like an easy choice for me but what do I know ?

Since we are talking about citizenship (and sorry if it has already been shared here), Laurence Fournier-Beaudry just got her french citizenship !

Updated with the latest info regarding Fedir and Laurence. Thank you everyone for keeping us updated:thank:

That is a wonderful and fun list. I didnยดt realize Stefania didnยดt have it. Does her not having an Olympic spot for now make the process more difficult? With Switzerland might not be using their 2nd spot itยดs a good possibility Cyprus would get the spot.

About Milla - I think the issue here is the timeline. I think itยดs possible she can reach citizenship by February, but iยดm not sure she will get it before after some deadline in January? She would need to be living 2 years in Sweden before she can apply, and she confirmed in January 2024 that she had moved to Sweden, but iยดm not sure if they officially moved there in December or January. From what I can remember from social media it looked like they already spent a lot of time in Sweden from December that year, which was a bit odd considering preparations for Euros. That is what iยดm hoping because December would be better for the timeline, but iยดm still not sure about application time and if itยดs even possible to get it in time if she can apply in December (Surely Christmas holiday isnยดt going to help).

She is paying taxes and Sweden and all, Iยดm assuming language test isnยดt going to be a big barrier.

Edit: Google says normal application time for Swedish citizenship is 3 months for Nordic citizens.... Yikes, that is going to be tight if not impossible. Unless there is some kind of speeding up process for athletes.

They are on the list for Golden Spin too. I think we can be optimistic about these two.
