I have been looking, asking everybody I can think of, checking the lineups -- literally everywhere for my friend that is wanting to drive down to Texas just to watch him.

I have just been a lurker of this forum... until now. I hope I posted correctly.

Does anybody know if Skate Canada does any announcements to confirm things like this?

Is there anywhere else a person should be looking to confirm lineups?

Just trying to find ways to confirm it to make sure my friend's trip is a great success! :)

I assume your friend is moonvine, who has been posting in the Texas Trophy thread and receiving replies there from people who want to be helpful to her.

Please tell moonvine to check the Texas Trophy thread again for today's posts (#14 and #16) from crystalspin, who has linked to a relevant article from yesterday.

Oh! I am so grateful for this explanation. I kept asking everybody, “Why is a Canadian coming here…?” in an effort to clarify things, and I finally have my answer from that article.

“He’ll need to hit or surpass a benchmark total score of 219 for Skate Canada to consider him for international competition later this fall.”

Thanks for enlightening me. :) It’ll enlighten so many others too.

It is so weird how The Shibsibs who have not been skating competitive for like 7 years have an easier ride getting to skate at events than Keegan. So in Canada you could be a newbie landing say several quad jumps and looking good pc wise but you can't go to Challengers and such unti you ge a certain score but 7 years no compeittion and you are in the Grand prix for others. Though it might not matter now that suddenly Gogo and Roman are starting to skate betternafter going through two quadrennias essentially. It is heating up in Canada in men's.

Grand Prix participation is not up to national federations, it’s based on the Grand Prix rules only. For challengers, it’s the fed’s decision.

Shibutanis were able to use the comeback rule because they announced before the GP selection meeting; national Fed did not get a say if they’d ‘allow’ it. Keegan announced over a month after the selection meeting, so he was no longer eligible to use the exception.

Keegan was brillant today.

Go Keegan Go! Short program was a struggle popped/missed the 4T; missed the 3T on his combo. This doesn't look great popping two jumps or missing. He still needs to get about 140 pts to get a challenger according to the Skate Canada rules. I know he had an injury So was this nerves or is he not really in competition shape. If he skated his short cleanly he could get close to 100 maybe even 100 if his pcs went up. I am interested where he is at with his skating? Will he do two quad toes in the FS. Does he have a second type of quad - will he do the quad lutz??

He said he was tired. I don’t think itll be an issue getting 140 points. But I guess we will see.

He didn't look tired. To me it looked like too much adrenalin messing with his technique. Hope he has enough energy to get through the long in good order.
He got through it. People are already declaring his come back finished and i’m so tired of toxic fans. He has incredible edges, his spins are amazing. Yes he popped some jumps, yes he fell on a jump. It’s his first competition in 2 years. He can do it at home or he wouldn’t be making a comeback. Hopefully they can fit him into 2 Challengers so he doesn’t just have one shot. I don’t know what the cut off limits for the various Challengers are.

Sorry yall. I’ve been reading another site. Bunch of people who I expect couldn’t do what he did here on their best day or in their Dreams.
He did what he had to do. I would be more worried if he hadn't done a triple axel at all, but he did a good one in the SP.

I doubt if he will get two Challengers. Warsaw (Nov 19-23) and Zagreb (Dec 3-6) are on the Skate Canada international assignments page (with no entries listed, which means they intend to send entries, but haven't decided/announced who). Either one would give him a bye into Canadian Nationals. Icechallenge (Nov 5-9) is also listed without entries, so that could be a possibility for another competition for him. He could also do Alberta sectionals; it is before the Zagreb entry deadline.

Sectionals don’t count for Olympic mínimums though. I don’t even know what they are. I’m just worried.

Do you think musical choice will affect Canadian Nationals scores?

Per a New person I met whose child trained with Ralph for 3 years, Keegan has his International assignment. She thinks it is the one in Austria. Lovely lady. She said they visited this summer and he was mulling it over, and he’s now adjusting to trying to train for competitions with 2 young children and what that feels like. So, in the words of my dearly departed ex, lets all calm Down about 1,000 and let the man work.

No, but it's another opportunity to compete before his international assignments. There have been cases in the past where skaters were sent to more than one international event between Nationals and Worlds to get their minimums, but that was when NO Canadian had the minimums. If Keegan needs multiple events to get the minimums, he is not going to beat Gogolev and Sadovsky for the Canadian spot at the Olympics or Worlds. They have both been skating very well this year. I like them all, and I won't be unhappy with whoever they choose, as long as it seems like a fair choice.
