17th Tirnavia Ice Cup | Oct 31 - Nov 2

Daniel. Good outfit and a really good program. He finished after the music, but this was a good skate for him. :nana: :nana:

Daniel KORABELNIK (LTU) was wearing black trousers, an opened black leather short sleeved shirt with a skull on the back, and a white vest underneath. (His long hair really completes the look!)

Skating to a rock cover of "Knocking On Heaven's Door" by Guns And Roses. Hadn't heard that version before but, after getting used to it, I liked it.

Just about got his final Layback Spin started before the music finished. And I think he actually cut it short to try to avoid getting a deduction for going too far over the music.

Apart from that, it was really good.

I enjoyed that opening programme.

Ach, Jozef! Do you not think we are getting sick of the Backstreet Boys with all the Ice Dance programmes to them?! And in particular to this song. (To be fair, this was a re-mix. So not entirely the same).

Local Trnava skater Jozef ČURMA (SVK) was wearing a lime green top with black trousers.

I don't want to complain too much, because it is his Dad's YouTube channel that the streaming is on.

Massive support from the audience when he was taking his bows.

Just noticed, his coach has a Union Jack bag.

He had a massive advantage from the SP over the previous skater. So he will go into the lead overall.

And he goes into the lead of the FS as well.

A "Rhapsody In Blue" programme from Vadym NOVIKOV (UKR)!!! We need more George Gershwin music in figure skating!

And I love his costume too. A magenta jacket, and black trousers.

I just loved everything about that programme.

@Walt FSHunter - your hometown boy was great!!!

He goes into a massive lead in both the FS (by 22.28 points) and overall (by 26.62 points).

And deservedly so!

Ian. Nice outfit and a terrific program. He performed it wonderfully. Good skate and he is happy. :jump: :bsplit:

A dark costume, and dark music for Ian VAUCLIN (FRA)

He was good too!

There was barely half a point separating the Top 2 after the SP. But, with the massive lead that Novikov built up with his FS, the Ukrainian may have already done enough to win this.

Oh. My. Goodness!!! Identical scores in the FS!!! :jaw:

Vauclin wins courtesy of his 0.42 point advantage from the SP.

Right, a break now until five minutes to the hour.

After that dramatic finish, I think we'll need it.

Mark LYSYCHENKO (UKR) continued the trend of costumes that were mainly black, but with increasing amounts of a second colour. This time, the shoulders and upper back were red. I kinda made me think of a Star Trek uniform.

Except, this was no sci-fi programme. It was Chinese music. I don't know for sure, but it was like something out of "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon".

I enjoyed that. No noticeable mistakes.

And on that basis, I reckon he's won.

He wasn't messing about! He wins the FS by 17.81 points, and overall by 19.15 points!

@Walt FSHunter - I don't know whereabouts Mark is from, and hence if he is local to you. But he did you proud!

Thanks! I usually don't watch Novices, but I rewound back and looked at Mark's FS. It was the first time I saw him skating and I 'm glad that he managed to win though the field wasn't too big.

Well, I think Novikov was robbed of victory today. His technical content was better.

We begin with Ana STRATULAT (ROU), and I am not actually sure what colour her dress is. It could be blue. Or pink. Or various shades of grey.

I loved the music she was skating to. It was a beautiful song.

She had a big fall early on.

Ah, just looked at her ISU Bio, and she was born in Montréal.

Canada just keeps giving! (And just as well because if she was representing her birth country, we'd never see her because they don't let their skaters out!)

Isabella. I love her outfit and this music/program. Good spins and step sequence. Great cartwheel. :bsplit: :jump: :jump:

I have to be honest, when Isabella NIEDERLEITNER (AUT) came out, I thought she was still wearing her team jacket over a black dress! But, it was actually a white blouse and black (very short) shorts. Oh, and black tights.

It was a simple costume, but it looked great!

She was skating to "Son Of A Preacher Man" followed by "You Never Can Tell". Not two songs I would have ever thought of putting together, but they worked.

It was actually an enjoyable programme.

She goes into 2nd position.

Emma Lora HIEZL (HUN) was wearing an orange dress with no back to it. I didn't like it.

But I loved her music. Don't know what it was, but it was obvious that it was from a film soundtrack. I was picturing somebody on an epic journey.

The dress didn't fit in with that picture!

I really enjoyed that programme.

She goes into 2nd position.
