Not sure how I feel. I suspect if Amber had done the same, they would have ranked her higher than Alyssa, but I’ve always felt Amber’s programs are a bit empty and her skating skills not as strong as some of the other top contenders. Rinka’s glide is superb, but I do feel her programs were empty. I thought her triple axel combo was amazing and she’d leap ahead of Alyssa despite the mistakes.
I happen to love Alyssa’s free. It is like her - joyful with a sense of humour. And like her SP, the lyrics hint at her personal story about breaking up with skating.

I think with Rinka the reason she is so susceptible to underrotation calls now and in the past is because her jumps have a more skimming effect instead of jumping up really high. I do think she is too ambitious in her FS content; she should only do 1 3Axel. She has really improved this season and her timing is right on; she has a real shot at claiming an Olympic spot on the Japanese team. Sakamoto and Chiba I believe are locks. Rinka and Ami are top contenders for that 3rd spot.

Rinka getting higher PCS than Gubanova is something else... People complaining that better skater won If judges wanted Liu to win despite the skating they'd give her PCS over 9 and made her URs into qs.

Can you imagine if she or one of the others bubbling up took OGM from Kaori, Alusa, Amber and Adeliia?

Why do you even put Adeliia here?
There is a chance for Ami/Rinka to surprise,but the problem is experience and pressure handle by Kaori is on another level so it's gonna be hard.

Actually, she got far less skating the same program here (140.54 ) than at Worlds ( 148.39 ).

Same program, different performances. I think Rinka was better, but as I said... that's how it was always gonna roll.

Who is the guy with Ashley? Also, Starr moved up a single spot from 6th to 5th even with some of the best skating I’ve ever seen her do. I think she can medal in pairs.

It sounded like Ben Agosto to me, but I didn't see him so I don't know for sure.

Why? 3 UR and a quarter for Rinka. Alysa had two UR (lest you try to claim they overlooked them), much better choreography and ice coverage.

I thought the calling was very good tonight. All the jumps I noticed as UR in realtime got called across the board from top skater to bottom. Generally though, people don't like accurate technical calling when it hurts their favorites.

For instance the Lutz in the sequence did not get even q although it was clearly UR. The last 2A was supposed to be <<, not just <

Disagree. The 2A actually could have gotten a Q with a lenient panel. Her PCS was hardly exaggerated. In fact, I thought they held her down a bit with another skater to come.

No need to be that dramatic and saying someone was robbed.We knew that Rinka needed 2x 3A and she has a lot calls + her PCS has to be worse than Alysa.Its gonna be problem for Rinka that her music choices is really hard to work for high PCS.

I'm a Rinka fan and I pretty much expected this she has to be jumping to the very best of her abilities to have a chance to win here (and hope for mistakes from Alysa but that's not gonna happen) but I think she did well to consolidate her layout and advance her bid for the Olympic spot despite the unders. If she makes it to GPF that will be interesting.

Alysa's TES also dropped. While Alysa is not a PCS Queen in this program 2 points difference in PCS is fair given how empty Rinka 's skating is. I think we all need to check our bias at times. There are reasons why Rinka's PB is lower than a lot of other Japanese women with lower BV and these reasons include URs and empty, slow skating. That's reality.

And what about the Alysa bias? She has been getting very high PCS, not only in the free skate but also in the short program, even reaching 35 points. There’s a reason why many people are getting furious about her scoring since Worlds. Her jumps are not as clean as people claim. I can understand differences in presentation, but not in the technical side. She is being favored by her federation while Rinka is not that’s the real difference. And just to point out, this is not Alysa’s fault.

Some of these people are going to pull a muscle trying to twist reality to explain Alysa Liu winning was right. I guess they must think the emperor has nice clothes too. Lol
