Okay, I can breathe now. Keep it going Ilia, stay healthy. We are so lucky to have had Nathan and now Ilia, skating for the U.S.The first third of his program has literally no choreography. Just crossovers, a spread eagle here and there, and going from one end of the rink to the other Landing quads. I don't think I've ever seen such an empty program opening. And this after his short program which was really good.Grassl is many things but at least he isn't messy and he does commit to this program. Good job and nice flow today!
Really? I saw no choreography or transitions between the first three or four quad jumps. 2 ft skating into quad lutz, quad loop, and quad salchow. Absolutely zero choreography or transitions. That was a good minute and a half to 2 minutes....Daniel has his weaknesses and we don't have the same taste, but that was the first actual program of the day. There was a concept, there was choreography and there were transitions throughout. He deserves credit for that.
Grassl's 'program'? There is even less going on choreographically in Daniel's program.... Daniel has, unfortunately, some of the longest quad setups of any of the skaters.Well, that was impressive. Still hate those voiceovers and, honestly, preferred Grassl's program but that's justifiably unbeatable...
Drab?! By far the closest program to a masterpiece in the last quad! This is what choreography is! This is what a program with a vision and a theme is all about!Kagiyama blowing it - and this program is just drab.
Based on? Sato is far slower, has far shallower edges, much less complex choreography, his jumps are smaller as well, and while he is an outstanding skater, he is nowhere near close to his Japanese compatriot.Really? That's all you have? Miserable Yuma.MISERABLE.Sato is way better this season.
Ummm... he's absolutely not getting too much credit for his skating skills! I think what you mean is that his Superior skating skills should not necessarily come in your opinion, outweigh the errors. And you may well be correct. But to say that people are giving too much credit because his basic skating? No way. His use of the blade is Sublime - I would suggest we have not seen a skater with basic skating skills this strong since Patrick Chan.Kagiyama's getting waaaaay too much credit because of his basic skating. His jump technique is flawed, his performance is robotic, and his programs are just not good.
Based on what we expect from Yuma especially on Olympic season.Based on? Sato is far slower, has far shallower edges, much less complex choreography, his jumps are smaller as well, and while he is an outstanding skater, he is nowhere near close to his Japanese compatriot.
Not even close. I can't believe I'm saying this because I hated it at the time, but even Shoma's Olympic version of Nessun Dorma is better. Kagiyama's LP is hilariously disjointed in comparison.Drab?! By far the closest program to a masterpiece in the last quad! This is what choreography is! This is what a program with a vision and a theme is all about!
That, as an example, I think people are using his skating skill and the flow off his jumps to ignore how he takes off on jumps like that Lutz of his.Ummm... he's absolutely not getting too much credit for his skating skills! I think what you mean is that his Superior skating skills should not necessarily come in your opinion, outweigh the errors. And you may well be correct. But to say that people are giving too much credit because his basic skating? No way. Uno used to get creamed by certain quarters - and it was fair. After 2017, he really did water down programs to add quads.Uno, at least, had a gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous costume...![]()
Indeed, it's empty. But if you haven't seen more empty programs than I don't think you are watching many men's freeskates. The two programs before his were even more empty minus some hand waving until the final third and Ilya's "program" is empty for vast stretches as well. Shun and Yuma have more filled out choreo and I would have put Shun ahead of Grassl in the FS in both TES and PCS but the technical panel wasn't calling anything and judges don't like Shun's more introverted style and these things helped Grassl. The first third of his program has literally no choreography. Just crossovers, a spread eagle here and there, and going from one end of the rink to the other Landing quads. I don't think I've ever seen such an empty program opening. And this after his short program which was really good.
hanyu also didnt have no choreo between jumpsThe first third of his program has literally no choreography. Just crossovers, a spread eagle here and there, and going from one end of the rink to the other Landing quads. I don't think I've ever seen such an empty program opening. What does that translate to? I liked seeing Ilia hugging Yuma and talking to him after the final results. Good sportsmanship!Ilia said "めっちゃ疲れた" I'm absolutely knackered.
He began by expressing his fatigue in a casual Japanese turn of phrase. What does that translate to? I liked seeing Ilia hugging Yuma and talking to him after the final results. Good sportsmanship!
