2025-26 Retirements, Splits and New Partnerships

I think I'll do a thread for the event a little later.

When was his last competition with the Canadian girl (sorry forgot her name)? I don't think he is eligible for ISU competitions, because it's less than a year ago. Citizenship in these former Russian republics never seem to be a problem, but that's not enough I think.

Could Marco possibly get citizenship for the Olympics or is that out of the question?
No chance for them to compete at the Olympics, not due to citizenship but due to him last competing for Spain on February 14th, so they can't compete internationally until about 3 weeks after the Olympic entries deadline (also the deadline for achieving TES minimums).

Worlds is a slim possibility. If Spain releases him immediately, there's a singular competition between him being able to start representing Uzbekistan and the deadline for Worlds entries closing and they'd have to achieve the required TES there (as long as the competition doesn't get cancelled and at least one other Sr team competes).

So, the rumours were true.

Will be interesting to see how they gel as a team - They're both skilled pairs skaters, but that is not a guarantee for success.
Intriguing. Maybe this will work well for both if their personalities mesh and they can put something together aesthetically. Both are already skilled technically. Geynish and her previous partner had good basics, but they were slow and awkward with no personality on the ice. Marco was great with his earlier Spanish partner, Laura Barquero (2020-22), who had received a suspension. While Marco looked very good physically with Brooke McIntosh (2024-25), there was nothing else there. No pizzazz, and they never quite pulled the elements together confidently either.

Nina Ouellette and Charly Laliberte-Laurent have officially been announced as a new Pairs team, after being identified in the Canadian thread. Figure Skating Quebec is tagged there (not to be confused with Patinage Quebec), I'm assuming that means for Canada.

John Crafoord, pair skater from Sweden is retiring. His twin sister Greta is looking for a new partner.

Google translate works here. John has suffered a lot from injury which is the main reason.

I've seen something like this coming. They haven't competed all season after all...the link doesn't work for me though, I get an error message

Mai Mihara has posted on the Sysmex instagram account that the upcoming nationals will be her last, so she's definitely retiring after the season.

It's not working because there is a stray full stop at the end of the address that has been accidentally included inside the URL coding. Remove that dot from the address, and the story will appear.

Hope this helps

Sad to hear about Mai but we haven't seen her in quite a while. She's been a delight for years. I hope she has good fortune in her future endeavors. Maybe she and Kaori will start their own elite skating school?

She had an injury in 2023 and has never really been able to come back from that, unfortunately. I saw her in Varese last year and am really glad that I at least managed to see her this one time. She's just so lovely.
