Ladies SP -- Discuss and share live PBP here!

Wow... Yu-Na was ridiculously overmarked considering she popped her lutz and still wound up beating Mao's clean program and Yukari's (even though she didn't do a 3-3 combo). Even if they marked Mao with UR on the 3Lo, Yu-Na missed a mandatory element (triple out of footwork). That will definitely get people talking.

And this is why nobody (besides us, anyway) watches skating anymore. It's impossible to make sense of it all.

well, Yuna did land a clean 3flip-3toe with GOE+. Mao's 3flip-3loop was downgraded for sure. so I would have to agree with the judges.

When I saw Yuna poppin the lutz I yelled "NOOOOOOOO!!!" forgettin the hour, I think I woke up my whole neighbourhood

Yuna's interview..."I didn't think I was nervous, there were a lot of fans at CoC and so I thought I could handle the crowd pressure, but it looks like I was really nervous inside. So I made some mistakes. And there were so many more people than at CoC. After the program I think I just buckled inside, my nerves gave way, so I started to cry. This was my first competition at home, I'm grateful to all the fans who cheered me on, I'd like to skate well tomorrow too, whether or not I make mistakes I'd just like to finish well."

Reminds me of Skate America where she got 69+ with a fall on the 2A
Tarasova looks furious - can't really blame her

I wish I could hear TT. She must be beside herself. I would have given the edge to Mao because of YuNa's missed jump, but I am not a judge. The scores are so close though it is almost a tie.

In her TV interview, she expressed that she has never felt this nervous before... Her voice was still shaking during the interview...poor thing... She was so relieved that she couldn't stop tears pouring out when it was over.

After watching all the programs together... it definitely seems like the spiral of choice for the less flexible skaters is the catch-foot after a wonky split.

Wouldn't agree more. this is worse than 2002 pairs scandal and all the others before it.
WTH? Two skaters sith similar marks despite a mistake from one of them is comparable to a judge (allegedly) being pressured to mark performances so that a specific pair gets the OGM? Calm down! There have been many, many times when skater made mistakes that were not noticable on TV, and I'm guessing Mao simply got an edge call or a UR. And Yu-Na's step sequences are awesome.

I actually don't know what the fuss is about. If Asada's 3-3 was downgraded (and it looked underrotated) - then scores make total sense. She lost 4 points of the base value + the mandatory deduction because of underrotation. There is not much left then. And Kim lost about 5 to 6 points with the popped Lutz - which makes total sense, because add those to the 66 she got - you have what Yu-Na would get with a clean program (She got 69 at Skate America - just add the two points she lost on the Axel at SA). Additionally Asada's Lutz entry looked weird - for a second I didn't know if she was going to do a Lutz or a Loop.

A few other things: Kim's and Kostner's sitspins look very alike and in my opinion look also very ugly. I have to applaud Asada again for fixing the sitspin, it is great now. Miki is the prettiest lady out there and I enjoyed the performance. Kim's 3-3 was great, but she used to have more speed after the combo - now she basically stands still after the 3T, I would love to see that reflected in the GOE.

I have never seen her cry at competitions. I was relieved her other elements were stronger than at previous events, but I guess that popped lutz really threw her off.

65.94 really?

Well she did land two triples..

Judges had to put her in the lead since unless she doesn't skate last tomorrow, Mao would have no ice left for her.

LAWLZ:rofl:

I can't say I dug Mao's SP when I first saw it at Eric Bompard but here it was lovely...I think she really brought the music alive this time. I'm looking forward to her doing the same for the LP (dear god, that LP...). I just wish they'd edited it so she could at least breathe somewhere in the middle.

Yes it is almost a tie, I wish Mao would change her planned 3F-3L in the LP tomorrow to 3F-2L-2L to maximize her scoring since her 3F-3L still has problems. Hopefully the scores today would push her to do her best for the LP. Still waiting for protocols...

I agree with most of your points but I'm pretty sure Mao didn't get downgraded for her lutz this time (at least, the commentators remarked that she'd received significant GOE+ for it).

Is this thread now going to descend into another Yu-Na vs. Mao war? Modertaors, please don't let that happen!

i am not a Mao or Yu na fan; but the kind of judging one is seeing now is very disheartening. Hope judges and ISU would look into these kind of results, so that Figure skating dont remain in public notice for wrong reasons

Yeah, Yuna's spins were much much better here.

It's about time for Mao to ditch that 3f-3r and go for 3f-3t in the short. She would've scored 70+ had she gone for toe-loop combo. I had said this about Rachael as well. I don't get it why they stick to loop combo when they have perfectly legit toe combo at their disposal.

I agree with you. I would like to see Mao go for a 3flip/3toe instead or she can maybe go for 3 flip/2loop, 3 lutz(or 3loop) and 3 axel in SP? I mean her 3 axel is more consistant than her 3 flip/3loop. Is that allowed for ladies?
