I just read that Team USA has never had a black athlete as flagbearer in the Winter Olympics opening ceremony until today with Erin Jackson. She previously became the first black woman to win an individual gold medal in the Winter Olympics at the 2022 Beijing Games.

BTW bobskedder Elana Megers Taylor was flag bearer for the closing ceremony in Beijing. She had been elected for the opening ceremony but tested positive for COVID-19.
