Words and rhyme - game

have you ever seen your cat fall
off a narrow shelf?
Yes, and she herself
tried to laugh it off with a nonchalant "I meant to do that" air.

[She was on top of the kitchen cupboards and tried to take a shortcut to the floor by stepping down onto the fan hood over the stove. It was slippery metal and she whooshed down and flew off like a ski jumper, landing on her startled bigger brother, mashing his face into the dish he was eating from. Sauntered off with her head high and tail in the air. It took us quite a while to stop laughing.]

six of the nine pairs in the team event seemed to botch
one or more elements; three of them had a fall
Some events it's like an epidemic; almost all
the participants come down (literally) with a case of nerves

(Is the whole event on somewhere for rewatching? The times have been wrong for me and all I've seen are the Canadian performances they showed on CBC sports news)

It was a lot of fun
to have the Olympics in my own city!
my exercise bands get gritty
and have to be washed frequently

Yes, it's on CBC gem. It's under the figure skating team event, day 0; all 3 disciplines are in the same file. You have to make an account with gem, but you can use your google account and you won't need a separate password. I am always signed in to my Google account, so can get onto gem easily that way.

The pairs event wasn't that bad. I used "botched" for any element with a negative GOE. So the "botch" could be as simple as a step-out or lack of synchronicity. Lea and Trennt did very well; two errors, but both very minor.

I treat my dance shoes and slippers more gently
because their material is more fragile than my skate boots

(I found the link on CBC after I posted that, but haven't had time yet to watch. I signed up for Gem for the last competition, so presumably I still have access to that and don't have to go through the process again. I did see Lea and Trennt's performance in the news story and only noticed the bit of awkwardness in the SBS spins that put them out of synch. And I think she put her hand down on the throw? Hard to tell from the camera angle at that point. I'd like to see at least the other pairs. Maybe this afternoon.)
