Waaaait - did I think all wrong? Can someone confirm this is actually starting in the afternoon European time like it says on the time converter? Because I was pretty sure I would have to be up at 5 am to watch this but I probably counted the wrong way :palmf:

I mean this is amazing news for me that is taking some vacation days, it means I can sleep long and then watch figure skating!

Never count on the times till the detailed Results and Protocols come up

But it looks ok so far.

I think this is right. UK is normally 5 hours ahead, western Europe 6 hours, Eastern Europe 7 hours.

BUT daylight saving time starts on 9th March in the USA, and 30th March in most of Europe. So for those three weeks, UK is 4 hours ahead, western Europe 5 hours, Eastern Europe 6 hours.

So a Boston lunchtime start would be late afternoon / early evening, and and early evening start would be a late evening start for Europeans.

24 hours out and no start order?
Start orders aren´t published before after the draw. The draw for women is scheduled to start in 20 minutes, and pairs draw in 1 hour and 20 minutes, if i´m not mistanken, 13.15 and 14.15 local time. I´m not sure if they wait to publish the start orders after the pairs draw, or if they will publish the women start orders right after and before the pairs draw. Probably we will have the start orders in 1-2 hours.

The startlist for women is up.

Compared to what they have achieved so far this season, these got a bad draw:
Yun (-9), Samodelkina (-11), Liu (-8), Gutmann (-6), Higuchi (-7)

And these women got a good draw considering what they have achieved so far:
Stepcenko (+11), Lee (+5), Kurakova (+11), Pinzarrone (+6), Levito (+7)

(Brackets show the starting position compared to their rank in the SB list)

It is always better to start late...

Not really sure what you mean with a bad draw. Because you make it sound like there was a draw of early and late groups, but the groups is already determined before the draw based on WR points. WR points isn´t only based on the current season, but points from previous season has some value as well. That is why skaters like for example Stepchenko and Kurakova is in a later group all though they are below skaters on the SB list. In fact - SB list has no impact whatsoever with the start order.

The only thing they draw is the start orders within the subgroups. WR already decided for example that Samodelkina and Yun would skate in the last part of group 2, but they did a draw between who would start as nr. 9 and 10 in group 2. (Not sure really if Mia did draw for first half or second half of the group as there is only 5 skaters in that group).

In other words - there is really no bad or good luck with the draws, skaters maximum start 3 placements below or above from their placement in WR, often less. They will still skate in the predetermined groups. Only thing that is mostly considered bad is that if you draw skating as last in a group instead of in the middle. Because then there is a long wait between warm up and skate. But either way you would not be skating earlier in a group if you start as last, you would either skate as nr. 4, 5 og 6. Someone also consider skating first in a group as bad.

Yes I know the draw is determined by WS points. And I get it. It is to protect skaters who might have been injured.
But at the same time it has it flaws. Skaters like Ahsun Yun and Sofia Samodelkina are probably going to be underscored in the short as they don't have merits from last year. But their potential is so much better than their starting position suggests.
At the same time Stepcenko and Kurakova will probably be overscored because they start late compared to what they are capable of.

I don't have any solution to this problem except that judges should stop scoring low at the beginning and stop giving out candy to the skaters at the end.

Maybe, maybe not. I´m not sure I agree it should be otherwise. For example it also helps small feds skaters like Sauter who has worked herself up in the rankings to get a score she actually deserves rather than getting the small fed treatment in early groups. Schott got some decent scores when she delivered clean skates at Worlds a couple of season ago, iirc she also had a late start number. Small fed in early groups usually hits harder than big feds skaters in early group. As an example, Liu is probably going to get a decent score. Yun scores might get lower then if she had skater in a later group or more, but she most likely will still get a high enough score to make the free.

I do agree though it would be best if the judges will just start judging fair and not use starting numbers as tools. Components usually magically elevates a little for each group, and GOES are really stingy in the first groups. It´s likely that if you did the same skate in a later group - you would get at least 1-4 points higher based on higher PCS and GOES. Sometimes that is the difference between making the final or not, and particular going to be annoying this year when first OG spots is handed out.

Is it possible to get the Planned Program Content for all women? I remember seeing that years ago and skaters do have to submit them before the competition.

Agreed. I will personally look closely at Yun and Samodelkina's PCS. I fear they might be low. And then watch Stepcenko and Kurakova who might get generous scores. We'll see what happens.;)
