Short Track speed skating

This sport is crazy... I love it. I have seen it live....even crazier live.

Canada is predicted to win many medals. Both men and women are strong.

William Danjinou and Courtney Sarrault are crystal globe winners. Some returning athletes are hoping for more hardware (Kim Boutin, who has had a share of Olympics glory and drama -death threats aimed at her in Korea) and Steven Dubois.

Today was the first day of events.

Heats for 500 m W
Heats for 1000 m M

Mixed relay.

Italy won the mixed relay, Canada got silver and Belgium got bronze.

Apparently, the ice is bad. It's breaking under the blades which makes it difficult for skaters as they are crashing and slipping.

Short track hopes are often crushed by how the races go.... A wrong move, a bad decision, and it can be game over quick;y... but when the ice is not collaborating... it's even worse.

I also enjoy how crazy of a sport it can be, but I sadly don't watch enough of it due to how the schedules of figure skating and short track tend to overlap during the regular season. Heck, I've only seen a little long track at this Olympics so far. Hopefully I'll get to see more short track over the coming days (especially with those high-pitched drones annoying me enough to consider not watching more skiing events...).

You should make a thread for long track . Jordan is the talent of the century. He is incredible. Not fun for my Laurent but I bow down to Jordan's prowesses !

Came here just to say how disappointed I was that William Dandjinou did not get a medal in 1000m! I thought he got it right until the last lap!

Congratulations to Courtney Sarault for the bronze in 500m (although, to be fair, when I saw 3 Canadians ladies in one semi-final I was hoping for an all Canadian podium, i'm that greedy, LOL).
Congrats to Netherlands for their first gold in 500m, they are taking over the short track too, not only the long!
Still a lot of competition left!
Go Canada, get your first gold medal( Mikaël Kingsbury was so close, why you need a tiebreaker for the same score, give them both the gold!)

Grondin also lost gold but photo finish...
