2026 Olympics: Pairs' Short Program

They've been saying a head injury but not a concussion. That doesn't seem right to me. Whenever a head hits, a concussion is suspected and person has to be watched for what symptoms develop. Symptoms can be delayed or mild and go away. It's a wait and watch and see situation.
I think they paint it positive publicly because they really don't want everyone to know the details. I think it'll be a mystery for ever how long Deanna wants it to remain one.

The competition started so well, many great performances for teams that were just happy to be there and make the FS. I thought that last 2 groups were feeling the pressure of big expectations and did not perform freely, hence the many mistakes.
But wow, Minerva and Nikita, gorgeous program and skate!
What an unexpected surprise for Lia and Trennt to be in last group for FS, and even get a small medal ( if there is such a thing at Olympics)! Wouldn’t be great if they end up on the podium?
Small medals are for ISU championships only (Euros, 4CCs, worlds) AFAIK

Man I was lowkey underwhelmed by the entire competition. You can see that the team event zapped every top team bar the canadians (and props to them! but)

Whoever skates the best tomorrow should win. Had no stakes in this anyway so! good night :)

you can have a head injury without the concussion and still need monitoring if your neck is very sore.

I think we should just respect Deanna's wish for privacy here.

She said there was a head injury but no concussion so we can go with that ;)
She may have been monitored for a concussion, but never had symptoms.

For me, "head injury" sounds worse than a concussion. But I should talk. I still have a dent in the back of my head from being hit by a falling rock. I finished the climb we were doing and never sought medical advice about it. Scalp wounds bleed like mad!

Edited to add: this happened more than 50 years ago.

I thought you were complaining about her explaining too much about the Georgians.
She treats Georgians differently than everyone else, jinxing them and doomsaying before anything untoward happens. But everyone else, even when things happened, she kept respectfully silent letting you watch the skate. I am now on pins and needles every time M/B is out because she endlessly criticized them and kept predicting the danger/fall/the end of the world in advance. But as a matter of fact, Berulava held up Metelkina and his arm was straight. It was others who messed up lifts. Or have a history of catastrophic injuries to multiple partners on their watch. If she leaves Berulava alone and only comments on what actually happened, after it happened, instead of gaslighting, I will be fine. A quick reaction during the skate, brief explanation, okay, if they have to, but leave the rest of it for replay time, then only analyze what happened.

And if she had pro opinions, the guy to discuss it with is Slusarenko. He is right there, along with 8 or however many specialists that team brings along to every competition.

Spam can be tasty if done right, ie fried coated in eggs and eaten with rice and kimchi, while Peacock will never be of any use to me, so to me spam wins over Peacock
Ichat is making spam for new years...
Key Facts on Spam in Asian Cuisine:
  • South Korea: It is the second-largest consumer of Spam globally. It is a key ingredient in budae jjigae (army base stew) and a popular gift during the Lunar New Year.
  • The Philippines: Often eaten for breakfast (known as spamsilog) with fried rice and eggs.
  • Japan:
Famous for Spam musubi (grilled Spam on rice), with over 100 million units sold in FamilyMart convenience stores since 2021
    .
    • Usage: It is prized for its long shelf life, salty flavor, and versatility in fried rice, soups, and sushi.

Never ever sought advice? Has it bothered you since...?. Maybe run it by your doc for their opinion?

Cool. Still have the best choreographed SP out there.

Would be good if that meant anything nowadays.
Ellie & Danny have the best choreographed programs. Lia & Trennt's sp is boss. And their fp is pretty good, too.

FYI: Riku & Ryuichi took a beeline to IAM and to Shae Lynn Bourne after seeing the great choreo Marie-France gave Ellie & Danny for 2 seasons in a row. This is the third season of excellent choreo from M/F for Kam/O'Shea. M-F enhanced what Ellie & Danny already have with their great movement quality and amazing elements. Meanwhile, M-F simply masked M/K's weaknesses. She knows how much M/K lack musicality. They don't express the music. They skate over it.

Danny's the best pairs guy in the bizness by far. Right up their with Nikita and Trennt. Berulava ain't even in the running. So overrated.

Apparently they get ISU medals!

My new roommate ordered a case of it🤮

Pairs women do not get nearly enough respect in the Olympic movement. The stuff they put themselves through is bananas.
It can sometimes feel like being suspected of witchcraft, in past centuries. Those women might have been happy living alone and doing good work with herbal remedies, but people would shrink away and whisper as they passed. Pairs girls are loving the thrill of flying, and they do revel in the awed looks they see on faces down below them, on the ice and in the spectator seats.

you are aware that Metelkina is not Berulava's first partner right ? Look up what happened to his previous partner.

If you'd offered me before the event that Ellie and Danny could have a Level 4 twist, cracking salchows, and only a hand down on the throw, I'd have RUN with that deal.

I was a bit late to the party, so I didn't get to see Emily and Spencer, but from the score it looks as though they exceeded expectations. I'll look them up later.
My babies are getting better and better…

The FP is going to be interesting, H/V have the highest SB in the free score but are also quite inconsistent and haven't been in this position at the Olympics ever before. They can take this title as long as they are clean, but they will likely need to be almost clean - they can afford one small error like a SBS pop or a step out thanks to their SP lead. The Georgians are in second, and they can keep that place if they are completely clean, but that is a lot of pressure for them and they have been very nervy when leading in the past. In particular, their lifts really worry me. And Lia and Trennt are going to be in third, which is really worrying for me; that is a lot of pressure. Hopefully, they just skate with joy and don't worry about podium placements, if the other top pairs are clean they will likely drop but can still finish in the top 5-6.

M/K will need to bounce back from their disappointment, skate clean, and hope the Germans have a few errors to win this event. They need to make up 7 points, which is a lot, but not impossible. However, they can certainly take silver with a clean skate tomorrow; it will just depend on how they bounce back. The free is really going to be a game of mental fortitude and who can deliver on the day.
You forgot the Hungarians, I think. Here I think solid and steady (if a bit unexciting) may pay off in the FS
