2026 World Figure Skating Championships | Women's Short Program

But also Amber's out of axel was very bad
She got negative GOE for the 3A but it was very mild compared to the quality of the element. It was around, and it didn't have a step out or anything like that, but it came down hard with zero flow. It was an ugly jump - nowhere near her best efforts, including an absolute beauty I saw her do in warmup. I thought the whole program looked like a fight.

A little shout-out to one of my favorite "under the radar" skaters.

Sarah Everhart had a very solid SP with a good technical score. 3Z-3T, 2A, 3Lpx. All squeaky clean with very good GOE.

She needs to be more consistent with her spin and step levels and improve her components, but she's a lot better than people give her credit for.
Sarah needs to find some personality on the ice. She is technically strong but I need to feel some emotion. I think her coaching team is trying to encourage this with her "doll" LP but, for me, it just emphasizes her rigid, robotic skating. I hope over the summer she finds some music that speaks to her and then explores expression with a strong choreographer.

I don't disagree, and I hope those things will come.

But she seems to be dismissed too often in a crowded US field. I think she has the technical goods to be a top contender... but as you say, growth in the overall presentation is required.

Notes from the arena. I have not posted and have barely read any pre-event coverage bcs I was so worried that something was going wrong (and many things could have—work, illness, family issues, weather, TSA, $, down to whether I could leave the US out of OHare), but incredibly am here. I can report the biggest ovation was for Amber, followed closely by Kaori. HUGE Amber support esp young people who weren’t from USA. Audience seemed to be mostly local Czech people. Audience loved the first part of Isabeau program, but once again didn’t connect. Well, the Zhoubi-Zhou, or whatever, part especially. I still think she should have kept her Moon River. Mone was undeniable. Just I saw her at Boston Worlds and knew she wasn’t skating to her potential all season. Just magic. Ami had an unusual off night and looked tight in the warmup. (Amber did a 2A, then a gorgeous 3A, then fell out of a couple; you could see she really wanted to get off one final clean one before end of warmup.) Sofia Samodelkina brought the house down with her choice of music. Also, the sound system is insanely good. Concerts must be amazing!

I caught the last couple of groups.

Kaori was great - fast and powerful as always. The 3Z edge is always a little sketchy, but I don't think she got called for it today. I imagine she'll win title #4 here and finish her career with a bang. She'd deserve it.

Mone skated the best I've seen her this season. I think the score was a little high for what she actually did, but she had a bouncy energy that she doesn't always have. There also were no URs today. I'll be interested to see how she holds up in the free.

Amber fought through that whole program. Too bad the combo wasn't clean and she lost some levels on the spins. I think her components are a little low compared to some of the other skaters, but ymmv. Hopefully she can do a clean free and get on the podium.

Isabeau did a great job with her 3Z-3Lo combo, though the 3Z had a !. In general, her programs are very polished and sophisticated, but I think they're slow and a bit one-note musically. Whoever she's working with next season should pick pieces that are 1) more likely to connect with the audience and 2) have more musical variation.

Ami had a tough day with the axel, but the rest of the program was fine. She looked a little slower and was selling the program less than she did in Milan. It's been a long season. I bet she comes back strong in the free.

As big a fan I am of Kaori, I do believe Mone should have won this SP. Sakamoto had the flutz and an insecure 2A landing, which had me so worried she was going to fall off the landing edge. I guess she got the 1st place nod given it’s her last competitive SP as well as her stellar track record and the fact that she covers more ice and has more presence than Chiba, whose skating is smaller. Good for Amber to grit it out and hold on for her 1st world medal, a small bronze. Any of the top 3 can win given how they all skate; should be an exciting watch!
It was a woman vs a girl. I'm suprised it's this close.

I was up top for the first four groups opposite the judges side. It wasn't too bad and was an interesting perspective with a completely uninterrupted view, but I was thinking to myself I should have just bought an expensive seat.

Anyway, I snuck in to the bottom level below for the last two groups, and was 10 rows from the front. I'd been scoping the sections with empty rows then made my move in the last ice resurfacing.

It was so much louder down the bottom, and a better experience. I should have just bought the best seat available at the time, but it worked out in the end. Tomorrow I'm up top unfortunately, and it looks like it's sold out but that's okay. It's the women's event I came to see.

Plus, I don't really care what happens tomorrow, because I wanted to see Sakamoto skate, and she put in one of her best performances so I'm pretty happy.

Chiba was so good didn't have the usual questionable landings, and had a real energy to the program.
The PCS for Sakamoto and Chiba is a little too much imo, but they were far superior to anyone else. The PCS was high in general even Gubanova got 33 (she was great).

The crowd really got into Samo's performance, I feel like the judges peck away at everything she does.

I'm a little disappointed with Petrokina she couldn't do a solid 3-3 when it counted, all through practice yesterday she did one clean 3-3 after another, did them in the warm, then messy in the program.

Same with Jia Shin, nailed them all throughout practice yesterday, in the warm up, totally blew it in the short program she could have easily been third with a clean skate.

I was saying yesterday how powerful Glenn's skating was in person during practice, in the short program today she totally couldn't handle the pressure She looked so nervous going into that 3A, and even in the warm up. She actually did well to land it because she was so tense going into it. I think that's Amber in her career though. Plus that costume does not work. Her training gear she was wearing yesterday complements that program more than her actual costume.

Isabeau was pretty good and plays to the crowd, kind of picking out spots in the audience to smile at, but the jumps are really laboured and detracts from the performance. The 3Lz-3Lo was a real mess I'm surprised it didn't get more negative GOE. I don't Isabeau could hope to do any more than she did.

Sauter was brilliant in terms of her performance it's very noticeable in those early groups how much better she is but the jumps really let her down of course and lucky to qualify.

The crowd really liked Kurakova, but I couldn't get into it.

Everhardt kind of surprised me. When I got up during that last ice resurfacing on the top level I walked past her she was pacing back and forth with presumably her mother, she looked another one who was a nerous wreck. I don't know why she was out on the concourse. But then knocked it out of the park. Must have been the performance of her career.

Sakamoto and Chiba deserve a big lead over the field, but it's a little over the top the PCS they are handing out. These are technically very simple programs, Sakamoto didn't get maximum levels on everything. Still, it was brilliant and thrilling to watch her perform a clean skate.

Glad to hear you were able to get out of O'Hare ok. It's always a difficult feat! Enjoy your time there!

I thought the sound mixing was really bad. I could hardly hear some of the music, for example Petrokina's music especially in the second half. On the other hand, Amber's music was so loud you couldn't hear the audience, despite seeing them clapping. In general, the audience was too quiet in the mix, took some of the excitement away.

I'm a bit surprised to see Mone so close to Kaori. I'm not a fan of her skating this season. I feel like she has regressed to a more junior-ish style (I know her SP is the same as last year), it's just the way she moves and uses her arms and hands. And not that flowy style of Kaori.

"Monumentous" is actually a very commonly used word.

Whether it is a proper word according to the dictionary, though, is another matter... :p

CaroLiza_fan

I'll go with the dictionary
It is not in the OED (my Court of Last Logophiliac Resort) but since I don't talk or write without using semi-real or completely made up words all the time, I'm happy to hear it.

I feel like I'm the only one who actually loves Isabeau's short this year and I'm tired of hearing how her programs don't connect with audiences because there are favorites on this board whose programs have never done anything for me. Like if I don't like the music or the choreography, I'm completely checked out most of time. And it's not that my taste isn't versatile because I pretty much like any Dune program which is the complete opposite of Isabeau.

Checking back in the thread, can I just say I do rather love Ruiyang and her catsuit is gorgeous.

Mone should have been first

Kaori did ok, weird jumps

Amber really didn't hit it again, why is she in bronze medal position I don't know (horrible judging again)

Pinzarone did ok

Everyone else was fine

Women's skating this season has been so average

Kristen SPOURS (GBR) is another skater that I have a soft spot for. Ever since I saw her in the BBC documentary series "Freeze".

Wearing a beautiful black and blue jumpsuit.

And that was a great skate to have as your swansong!

She and Ashley Wagner had a wee chat when she came off the ice.

My kid Chris Boyadji, and team-mate Ed Appleby, sitting with Kristen.

She goes into 5th position.

So proud of her.

:cheer: WELL DONE KRISTEN!!! :cheer:

And thank you.

Can we see this documentary in the US?
