She would have needed to make significant changes to the program to do this. It's understandable she wouldnt have wanted to if it wasn't a layout she'd already been practicing, and there's no indication there was a different layout she'd been practicing. This was it.

If I was her, I would have gone for broke and added another 3A. But I guess that is not in Amber's comfort zone.

In general this was the best group 2 I have ever seen at a major competition!!!! All so impressive!!

Yeah, she hit a great one to complete the series. I wonder if it's a loop thing so much as a final jumping pass thing - that's when you're tired, and the loop is SUCH a timing critical jump. Would rather see her do the 3L earlier and maybe a 3S or something easier (but she also probably does both 3L because if she misses the first one, she can 3L+2A+2A on the second attempt).

That 3A on replay though, WOW. Perfect technique, forward pick take off fully rotated. Love love love.

She joins Mao Asada as the only woman to officially get three clean triple axels in the books at an Olympics!

Jia has exceptional execution on her jumps though, they look so flowy. Let's see.

Good question,but probably because of the flag

68 for PCS is not some unusual FS score for Amber

Though I don't love this answer - Jia's still up and coming,
she hasn't built much momentum this season and Amber
is already GPF Champion among other things, Sometimes
that's just how judges operate, plus Amber's pretty good.

Thank you Amber for that skate! Last time I felt this way was in 2014 watching my beloved Mao tear the roof with her comeback Lp. I was not that invested in the last couple of seasons in figure skating so I am a late new Amber fan. There is something to her skating that feels raw, emotional and sincere. Way beyond the jumps. And I must say that her 3A is absolutely gorgeous, gracious like Mao’s but with better ice coverage and no rotation issues (like Liza’s). Can’t get any better
1/2 wishes for this night accomplished. Now if the Skating Gods allow, may them please let Kaori skate clean and end it on a similar high note, I don’t even care about medals, I just want her to have THE SKATE as a final moment ending her competitive career.
