I think Shimada being in Juniors way past when she should have been is partly why she hasn't progressed enough. When you are winning everything and not being challenged you stagnate. She will be pushed next season to be much better and know what she has to work on when she finally goes against the Senior Ladies.
I hope that you're right!

Alysa possesses the very unique ability to care about her skating but not let the pressures impact her ability to perform. Some say she "doesn't care" but I don't see that. Her motivation is very much an internal joy that she earns through hard work and practice. It's not to say that she is not infallible nor are her skills or artistry perfect. But she is able to often put out a complete joyous performance that she has very much been a part of in not only execution but creation. I won't be surprised if she says goodbye to skating (for now) and finds some other passion. Amazing young woman. (Alysa, I would stick around for a little while and cash in on the ice shows and endorsements! )

She cares about giving an entertaining performance I think. They interviewed her on Aussie TV and she said something to the effect of “My Olympics is not over yet, wait for the Gala.” She wants to show us what she works on is the impression I get.

I'm a big Ami fan and I'm happy with the podium order, I think this is the right result
As much as I love Ami, I think her free program is just too simple... I've felt that from the start of the season, I remember even posting my astonishment for that program scoring 149 in the very first GP event 😅

Still thrilled for her winning bronze, deservedly due to the 2 3As she landed (I believe this is the first time she landed it cleanly in both her SP and FP!)

Would've loved for Kaori to win, but that +REP and missed combo is just too costly. Alysa is the cleanest over 2 programs and she performed every second out there :points:

That ability to ignore external pressure and stay within yourself is a priceless gift. If Alyssa could bottle it, she'd be a gazillionaire!

Edit: And believe me, I'd be first in line to buy the stuff!

Hi everyone 😊
I’ve been following figure skating for over 10 years (though I don’t usually post much), but after today’s event I felt like sharing my thoughts.
First of all, congratulations to Alisa — she skated well and delivered when it mattered. Huge respect to her.
That said… I can’t help feeling a bit sad about the overall level we’re seeing right now. I know this might be controversial, but to me the technical standard feels significantly lower than what we were used to a few years ago.
I think we can all agree that Adeliia didn’t have her best skate, and she probably wasn’t the strongest Russian option going into these Games, especially considering her recent injury. But beyond individual skaters, what strikes me most is the bigger picture. If I try to think of a comparable major event in terms of technical content, I almost have to go back to around 2014.
Between 2016 and 2022, the depth in Russian skating alone was incredible — multiple quads, consistent triple Axels, difficult jump variations, arms-overhead positions, speed, attack… Even programs that weren’t perfect still had huge technical ambition. Today, it feels like that intensity and complexity just aren’t there in the same way.
Even watching the recent Russian domestic competitions, you could see layouts with much higher base value than what we saw here. Plus, I truly belive that son Medeveva's programs had way more artistry and complexity that the ones that we show today.
It’s not about criticizing the current skaters, they’re talented, but from a technical standpoint, it feels like the bar has dropped.
Maybe this is just a transitional period for the sport, but as a long-time fan it does make me a bit nostalgic for that 2016–2022 peak.
Curious to hear how others feel about it!

If they still had professional skating comps and shows (outside of the yearly Stars on Ice), she would be a star. She really likes to entertain!

I wanted the gold for Kaori so much. But I guess if she has to lose, then I'm ok with her losing to the golden raccoon. Alysa performed the hell out of her program.

And even if Kaori of course was disappointed, what a completely different atmosphere during the medal ceremony compared to four years ago! The last four years were really good for women's figure skating.

Ironically Alysa with her “don’t care” attitude, gave the media exactly what it’s been wanting and pressuring countless hopefuls to deliver. That program, the gold dress, the easy breezy skate……that’s the script mainstream media has been pushing! She’s something special for sure!!!!!!
I bet the gold dress really was planned, she knew she was going to the Olympics, she would not have returned exactly a year before in readiness if the Olympics were not so close.
