Now that the Initial Under 7 skaters are finished, we move into the ISU part of the event for the rest of the day. And we begin with an Advanced Novice FS double-bill. 8 boys, followed by 22 girls.

And we start with a group of 8 boys: 4 Polish boys, followed by 4 Canadian boys.

I didn't see Szymon before, he was surprisingly pleasant to watch, he has certain softness of movements, after he polishes the balanse, ha will be nice skater.

Come on, this is one of the most epic pieces of film music ever to start with! It doesn't need to be trailerised!

That complaint aside, it was a good skate from Colton MONESS (CAN).

He makes a good young Dark Lord of the Sith.

He goes into a massive lead in both the FS and overall.

(To be fair, he already had a big lead over the Polish skaters from the SP).

My goodness! How many falls did Tea HEBERT (CAN) have?!

After the initial smiles for the photographer, you can see she's angry with herself.

With the lead she had over Adriana SHEVTSOVA (UKR) from the SP, she might go into the lead overall. But, she is going to be down the order in the FS.

Eh?! She leads both the FS and overall. And no deductions.

Was I watching a different programme?!

Well, after being baffled by the previous Canadian, there's no question about this one.

Lia CHO (CAN) is going to be the winner.

She was in a league of her own in the SP, and she was again in the FS.

Just beautiful.

She wins the FS by over 30 points, and overall by over 40 points.

And, like yesterday, she can't believe the scores!

This little girl is a star. Not a star in the making. A star now.

Eh?! She leads both the FS and overall. And no deductions.

Her Free Skate's base value is almost 14 points higher than Maryia Luksha's, so she had quite a lot of room to compensate for any errors.

The Novices also no longer get fall deductions on elements, just for falls outside of elements. It doesn't make that much of a difference in this case, as they only got a 0.5 point deduction for each fall before, and the gap is larger than that.

Ah, that's where I got caught out.

Her Free Skate's base value is almost 14 points higher than Maryia Luksha's, so she had quite a lot of room to compensate for any errors.

I had a feeling it would be because of Base Values, but the Protocols weren't out at that stage to check. (I wish they would include the Total Base Value of the programmes in the livescoring. It would be useful to see).

She did indeed have a good cushion from the SP. I hadn't actually noticed until the end of the competition that it was Maryia Luksha that was leading the FS at that stage.

Oh. I didn't know that. But now that I do, it explains a lot. Has that been the case for a few years? Because I remember getting very confused a year or two ago about skaters falling and not getting their half-point deductions.

And no sooner do we start our first Junior competition, than we start our second. A group of 3 Polish boys.

Seems a bit surreal to come back from a resurfacing to have just 4 programmes and then another resurfacing.

But, in terms of the whole day, it works out better doing it like this.

Right, we have reached the interval, and there is one more group of girls to go.

We have had all the Canadians, and they are currently:

1st Lia CHO
2nd Ksenia KROUZKEVITCH
4th Camila VOLKOVA
10th Uxia GONZALEZ-ABRALDES

Uxia had a fall early on in her programme. The others went clean.

And we have a North American Top 4, as the skater in 3rd splitting the Canadians is Hannah KIM (USA).

Ouch! That was a bad bang into the boards from Uxia GONZALEZ-ABRALDES (CAN).

She did a jump next to the boards, and just about had enough room. But then she hit it, and there was a massive bang. But, she set off again straight away.

I think the person controlling the stream panicked when they heard the bang, and cut the stream in case something serious was wrong. And by the time they realised everything was alright and started broadcasting again, she was in her finishing position.

She goes into the lead of both FS and overall by a huge margin.

I'm interested to find out more about...

She finishes the Junior Ladies SP with a lead of just under 6 points.

I was going to mention Maurizio ZANDRON (AUT) in a comment I posted on Wednesday about a Polish girl skating to the "Alice" music. But I left it out in the end.

If I had realised he was actually here, I would definitely have mentioned him!

The cacti are back for the final group of 4. But I'll be leaving for food before the last three get to skate.

If I'm back early enough, I'll wind back and watch the girls that I have missed and hopefully be caught up on them by the end of the resurfacing. But, I do want to watch the final 2 groups of girls LIVE as I have a kid in the final group.
