Ami Nakai

Open Practice and Press Conference with coach Kensuke Nakaniwa

Recentry, I've been thinking that compulsory is important.
I've been learning since I was little, and I've had a teacher
teach me from the beginning, so I think that's what's brought me
where I am now in skating, and I'm glad I've been doing it
since I was little.

Interview by Shuzo Matsuoka (Dec 6 2025)

The triple axel is no longer a high-difficulty jump.

Ami Nikai gave me favorite short program performance. She has beautiful fluidity and smooth speed through her marvelous triple axel, triple lutz/triple toe combo and her triple loop, with excellent edging, musicality and flexibility especially through her step sequence, sit spin and I spin at the end. Her engaging expressions with wide eyed smiles and contagious energy also fit the carnvelesque character of the music. I hope Ami skates just as great in the freeskate. I found this link to Ami's wonderful SP: https://www.another site.com/r/FigureSkating/comments/1r7j44k/ami_nakai_short_3a_program_olympics_2026/

Ami's secret to having nerves of steel revealed! She's reading extracts from Mao Asada's and Yuzuru Hanyu's autobiographies before going to competitions to calm herself, relax and get into the proper mindset. Seems to be working miracles :)

Ami!! I'm so nervous!!

So proud of her! She has such a bright future ahead!!
