2025-26 Retirements, Splits and New Partnerships

Regarding Lim/Quan splitting... I am so sad. I had a thought after he struggled with the twizzles this season that Hannah might drop him and I'm upset it was true. They were such a special team. I'm wondering if Hannah will partner with a Canadian guy who will try for Korean citizenship for 2030 (since there are literally no Korean guys who are in ID to my knowledge). Or she could switch back to Canada but miss an entire international season . Wishing good luck to both of them, they are so talented.

Well.... Maybe Hannah will represent Mexico at this point... IAM is doing a major rewiring isn't it ?
This is CRAZY.

Ye went through the trouble to get his Korean citizenship... and he could most likely easily (compared to Hannah) find a good partner and keep representing Korea though he is Chinese-Canadian born in Iceland.

The mystery of skating partnerships....

Iceland has a federation. Who knows, maybe he can find a partner who has some connection with that country also. Actually, I know a woman now living in Toronto who is from Iceland, learned to skate there and competed in their national championships, and skated with one of the shows, Holiday on Ice, I think, then moved to the States and coached ice dance until she married a Canadian and moved here. Aina is in her fifties now, but she can't be the only talented skater to come out of that country.

There are skaters in Iceland but I do not know if Ye has de facto Iceland citizenship. (AI says no) There are definitely more high level Korean skaters so I don't see the point for him to look elsewhere.

Madison: I don’t think retirement is the word, because we’re definitely still gonna continue and be involved in skating.
Yes, they are apparently retiring, but like I said earlier, they are not vocalizing the word, 'retirement.' Many skaters move on without officially 'retiring,' or making a big 'retirement' announcement.

Hmm, Hannah Lim and Paul Ayer for Mexico? 🤔

Lim/Quan have split. Both are looking for new partners.

This wasn't on my bingo card. Yes, he was struggling this season, but somehow I did not expect this. I will miss them together, hopefully both will be able to find new partners.

Another sad one. They had such a lovely FD which they regrettably couldn't perform at the OG (not in the team, not in the individual).

I didn't know Ye was Canadian. So he would have to sit out a season if he were to represent Canada?

Well, if he finds a Canadian partner, they could prepare and skate domestically, while waiting out the one year requirement. Or, he has the option of working with a Korean singles lady who's interested in switching to ice dance, etc.

I had assumed he would have Icelandic citizenship if he was born there, but different countries, different rules I guess. Of course he would have more chances to compete internationally if he can find a Korean partner. Or a Canadian one, I suppose?

So I hoped Julia will stay for a while. But if that's what she feels is good for her, I hope all the joy and happieness she brought to many comes back to her tenfold. On brighter note - no announcement from Michał and he was practicing with men singles group at national team camp, so maybe he will try to find another partner. He estabilished himself as a strong middle tier skater, partner search shouldn't be an issue, though I don't see any Polish senior skaters suitable for pairs.

(at the national team camp Zosia Bochenek was goofying trying off ice lifts with both Siudek senior and junior and they were quite nice ones, so maaaaaaybeeeee there is still hope that Rysiek follows his parent's steps)

Hannah and Ye was something I suspected, but it isn't making me less sad that it indeed happened.

He was born there while his parents were there for work but moved really early to China and then to Canada as a toddler. At this point, getting Icelandic citizenship would be difficult and timely. So if the goal is 2030, I wouldn't be surprised to see both of them skating still for Korea. They would have to sit out one entire year to represent Canada, which is not such a big deal if they don't find a partner quickly... but in ice dance, it can be tough to climb the rankings so not being able to compete this year may present a challenge for future qualification. So my hunch would be that they are looking to represent Korea, with a chance of coming back representing Canada, which they did as juniors.

Considering how long it took for Korea to release Minsol Kwon... I am wondering if that's a risk to take for them to move to another country.

Polish federation confirmed in their social media post that Michał Woźniak remains active and will be searching for a new partner. Happy to hear that, our pairs may not be dead yet.
I'm here for all the crazy ideas for Michał and already (partner)shipping Zosia and Rysiek.
