I am guessing that the dress is supposed to be a Hogwarts school uniform. But, I haven't seen any of the films, so I don't know for sure.

She was really good too.

But, I preferred the "Les Misérables" programe. But the fact that I am more familiar with the source material for that may be playing into it.

Back-to-back Slovakians to finish with. Maria VINOGRADOVA (SVK) wearing a dress which is mainly white, but turns sky blue in the skirt part.

Skating to instrumental music that I am not familiar with.

She was really good too. BUT, she had a hand down. And when the standard is as high as it is in this competition, it will be costly.

Right, we come back from the resurfacing, and the rest of the night is spent doing all the Pattern Dances. And it is the format I like, where we have all the PD1's, and then all the PD2's.

We have 7 Bronze partnerships; then 4 Silver partnerships; then 5 Gold partnerships; then 2 Masters partnerships.

Since the Pattern Dances are so short, and there are 18 partnerships who will each be going twice, I am not going to comment on all of them individually. It would get too stressful trying to get the comments written before the next partnership.

I'm just going to sit and enjoy.

Oh, what is this about? The Silver partnerships were called for their Warm-Up, and the music started. And then after just a few seconds, it stopped and the announcer told them all to go over to the referee. And then she repeated the summons. One partnership did, and then they and the referee had to wave to the others to come over.

They had a talk for a minute or so, and then were sent out again. And the music re-started.

I have no idea how this ended up running so far behind schedule, but today's skating action has just finished.

The Podium Ceremonies will be starting shortly. But with my eyes practically hanging out, I am going to get ready for bed now.

And to finish the competition, it's Julija BOGDANOVA (LAT). Who is wearing a dress that is mainly black but the end of the skirt part is red.

Techno tango with French vocals?! Not a description I would ever have thought I would be writing.

Yet, it worked. Very well, in fact.

I never thought I would actually like a techno programme. But, I liked this one. I think it was because it was not overbearingly so. The tango kept it in check.

Awwww, thank you so much for your reply. It is so heartwarming to know that you and your mother appreciate what I wrote about her.

Hey, 5th position out of 32 is amazing! I'm sure most members of this forum (including myself) could only dream of getting that high!

And please pass on my congratulations on the 6th position in the Artistic FS as well. Unfortunately, I didn't realise it was starting on Sunday, so I haven't actually any of the Day 1 action. But, I do hope to catch up on it this weekend.

I have always enjoyed watching Adult competitions, because there is a more relaxed atmosphere and so much camaraderie between the skaters. And a lot more creativity than there is at elite level competitions where everything is geared towards the score.

I just wish Adult events were better publicised. I have adopted the whole of the Cypriot team on here, and it always frustrates me that it is so hard to find out about Adult events that Natalia and Liubov may be at.

Hope you are both having a thoroughly good time at the event. I am so jealous. I have long fancied going to Oberstdorf, but haven't managed it yet.

The atmosphere here is really fun and supportive, and unlike our local small adult competitions, there's a huge number of participants and supporters. It's our 1st time in Oberstdorf and next year I'll be age-eligible to participate too. Can't wait!
What else is cool and surreal is that the world of elite figure skating and literally my own mom's skating are both being discussed in this forum.
P.S. she is also a fan of Liubov from Cyprus

Just the one stream today, due to it being a shorter day. It is starting later and finishing earlier.

To be honest, it would have worked better for me if it had started at the same time as it had the rest of the week. Because I am going to miss the final competition, due to the Formula 1 practice from Montréal.

Thanks a lot! I hope you will get to visit Oberstdorf - not only for skating but also because the town itself is super pretty.

I may only have seen photos and video, but I definitely agree with that.

Funnily enough, figure skating was only part of the reason that it was Oberstdorf that took my fancy. The main part was actually the ski jumping. Take in the Oberstdorf round of the Four Hills Tournament, and also the end of year Eisgala that Daniel Weiss holds. Kill two birds with one stone. And then if the logistics allowed, maybe even head to Vienna for the New Year Day's Concert, which is something else I have always wanted to go to. But then reality set in, when I started looking into it and realised just how many people would be going to this small town and how difficult (and expensive) it would be to get accomodation and all at that time of year.

The atmosphere here is really fun and supportive, and unlike our local small adult competitions, there's a huge number of participants and supporters. It's our 1st time in Oberstdorf and next year I'll be age-eligible to participate too. Can't wait!

When you put it like that, yeah it is surreal. But, it just goes to show that she's on the right track, because she made an impression.

Maybe it's just me, but I like talking about lesser known skaters, and helping to bring them to the attention of a wider audience. Because they are out there too, and deserve to get the recognition for what they are doing.

You know, when I first came across her a few years ago, I didn't know what to expect. But when I actually saw her, I was so impressed. She finished up 4th in the Artistic FS, and won the "normal" FS. (What terminology do you guys use for the programme that isn't the Artistic FS? Because I have been referring to it as the "normal FS", but it doesn't feel quite right).

We all know how many quality skaters there are in Russia, and for every one that makes it to national and international level, there are so many quality skaters that don't. So it is so good to see a quality skater like Liubov Savinovskaya competing and having success later in their life. It gives hope to all the young skaters that miss out when they are in their teens and twenties, and think that that is their opportunity gone. But it isn't.

Finally, can I say a personal "thank you" to you, @Viola26. I was feeling very down yesterday, but chatting with you has cheered me up.

Agree with you on many points. To be honest, there's really a lot to discuss but for now I'll just answer the question about non-artistic program. It's simple - we call it Free Skating, just like the official name that is being used in competitions. And Artistic FS is just "Artistic" in our terminology.
Usually I don't write much here, I prefer quietly reading different points of view on skaters and programs. I have always noticed your detailed descriptions and that you're a really dedicated fan and was happy to cheer you up a bit too this time!
