Shoma Uno and Marin Honda team up for Ice Dance

Surprisingly no, from what I was able to understand of the press conference. I believe Shoma mentioned something about the difficulty of finding good ice dance coaching in Japan, though. Perhaps they are being coached remotely?
My first thought was Kenji Miyamoto, but I'm not sure if that's a role he wants at this point. I think choreo is more his thing.

To put it short, from what I got from the ToyoTimes press conference, Shoma wants people to see how great and beautiful Marin is as a figure skater. And as picturing her competing in ice dance, he decided that he did not want to see some other guy next to her as her partner but himself, so to speak. (They decided to compete in October 2024, but they didn't/couldn't say so for various reasons.)

"Shomarin" is the official nickname they chose, which was originally how Marin's sister Miyu called them at first.
Shoma didn't tell anyone about this except for Stephane, he didn't even tell his own family members. He told Ice Brave members about 3 days ago. Marin had talked to her family and a few others to consult or to learn stuff about the discipline, including "potential" coaches or whoever that can teach ice dance.
As for their coaches and where to train, there are still some talks going on and cannot talk about it yet.

It's a great news, but thinking about this year's JNats ice dance podium... eww my stomach acid... :slink:

I am so pleased that it is true. We heard rumours and knew they had been in Montreal. I am so hoping for a development in Japanese Ice Dance with all these good skaters turning into the discipline. Let's hope Shomarin really make it happen!

Thank you very much for your info....! He is a wise man. I would be jealous too! I have always liked her and have recordings of her I watch. Like so many, she struggles with the jumps but like many Japanese, she has artistry....I am looking forward to seeing them. I hope they have fun and enjoy it. If I were dancing with her,I would forget about video games, Shoma...Just sayin' :palmf:
Marin with her knees bent (LOL!)
