Andrei Mozalev

It’s really convenient when you have a specific look or a distinctive character in mind, and you know in advance what costume to wear and what accessories to pair with it. Especially if you can buy everything yourself from an online store.

#7 Gopnik
For Tutberidze’s show in the 2024–2025 season and Averbukh’s show in the fall of 2025.

Music: Seryoga - Chernyi Bumer

Perhaps you’ve gotten used to seeing Andrei’s costume as an everyday outfit on the ice, like workout clothes for a run or something similar. But in reality, it’s strictly a carnival costume—or, to be even more precise, a cosplay of a specific character. Andrei and his team had a clear vision of exactly what their hooligan should look like. The real-life prototypes of this character—not-so-friendly guys living on the wrong side of the law—had disappeared by the 2010s, remaining only as figures in crime reports, but the memory of them lives on in the films, comedy sketches, and music videos of that era. Andrey plays exactly this kind of character: a small-time thug in a new, flashy car. He selected both the costume and the accessories (cap, sunglasses) specifically to match this image.

This costume does its job perfectly and presents the character, making him recognizable to viewers, and thus understandable and relatable to them. You have to agree, this is a huge plus of such carnival costumes.

I also really like its color; it’s good that the costume is blue and not black, for example. This color is very pleasant, and it suits Andrei very well. All in all, I don’t really have anything else to say about this costume, which is exactly why it’s in the middle of my ranking.

Starting from this position and up, all the costumes are either carnival costumes or cosplay of some popular character. And these are the best costumes of the season. Want to see them all? We’ll start tomorrow!

Andrei is demonstrating to Arseniy how to jump into the water from a platform correctly.

You’ve probably gotten used to the fact that the 5th and 6th spots on my lists are always tied—I just can’t decide which of the two nominees to choose. But this time, I have a very good reason…
…Actually, it’s the same costume. The only difference is the color of the fabric.

#5-6 Two costumes for a toreador (in red, in blue)

Presented in Ilya Averbukh’s show “The Nutcracker” (5 performances in December 2025 – January 2026).

Music: Tchaikovsky: The Nutcracker, Op. 71, TH. 14 / Act 2 - No. 12a Chocolate (Spanish Dance)
Image: a dancing Spanish toy – toreador

In fact, this is a common situation, if we remember that an ice show tour, especially a seasonal, festive one, is just like a theater tour. Several teams of figure skaters travel around the country, each equipped with costumes. Whether by accident or on purpose, to avoid confusion, the costumes for different groups are made in the same style—absolutely identical in cut, detailing, and so on—but in different colors. Andrei toured with one group and then another, so he tried on both the red bullfighter’s costume and the blue one. And how am I supposed to decide which one is better? Both are good.
So what if other skaters wore this costume before Andrei? This costume is very beautiful; it suits him very well. And we can finally picture him as the classic character, Escamillo from “Carmen.” These are very beautiful theatrical costumes, and they rightfully hold a high position in my ranking.
Tomorrow we’ll discuss another carnival costume, also very beautiful… I look forward to seeing you!

I really love the costumes from Averbukh’s show. They’re designed with great taste and look fantastic. Of course, the show has been running for 10 years now, so everyone’s seen them a million times, but Andrei is wearing these costumes for the first time—for him, it’s something new, right?

🏅
#4 Steampunk-style outfit
Music: Pyotr Tchaikovsky - The Nutcracker
Image: a good wizard - godfather. Very young for his status.

Originally, Averbukh reserved this role in the show for himself and picked out an outfit that suited him, flatteringly highlighting his striking appearance. And ever since then, anyone who gets this costume (and there have been quite a few) looks cool. That’s what it means to sew a carnival outfit well—it suits everyone.
What I like most about this outfit is the steampunk-style hat with gears, decorated with gear-shaped ornaments; it’s incredibly cool. Otherwise, it’s a standard carnival costume, complete with a doublet, lace cuffs, leggings, velvet pants, and so on. But the hat is what makes it cool and memorable.

Yes, I still believe (and not without reason) that Andrei is too young to play in the Drosselmeyer show. But at least this time they dressed him cool. So cool, in fact, that this costume landed in 4th place on my list and gets a medal (remember, I follow the American custom when handing out medals).

We’re already right up against the podium. Come back tomorrow, and we’ll find out who took the bronze medal!

Congratulations to Andrei on making the Russian national team's main list for the 2026–27 season!

Once again, I’d like to congratulate Andrei on making the Russian national team’s main list for the 2026–27 season. This is a well-deserved achievement, and I’m glad to see him back at the top after two consecutive disappointing seasons. Keep up the good work, Andrei, fortune favors the patient and the resilient.

In view of this, I thought that the 2025-26 season saw many significant events for Andrei, both pleasant and disappointing. Of course, I focused on the pleasant events and decided to create a sort of ranking—a photo album of the 10 most important events of the 2025-26 season for Andrei, complete with vivid photos. I think it will be interesting. We have to find some way to entertain ourselves during the offseason while there’s no interesting news.
Well, for now, I’m going back to my ranking of the 2025-26 season’s costumes, which is almost finished, and I’m starting to award the best ones. Fun fact: there are so many brightly colored costumes in my ranking—red, blue, light blue, and gold — yet the top 3 features costumes in two basic monochromatic colors…

🥉
…black and white only.

🥉#3 The classic two-piece suit with a vest and tie.

For the free program of the 2025-26 season, set to music from the James Bond films. Andrei wore this suit in October-November 2025.

Music: No Time to Die (Billie Eilish cover), James Bond theme
Image: a young man wearing a classic suit for a special occasion. Perhaps he graduated from school or was invited to be a groomsman at best friend`s wedding.

I really don’t understand why they needed to change the free skate costume right after the premiere, just to show it twice, and then revert to the first costume for the Russian Championships. Oh well, it’s not that important. I really like both costumes for the free skate; they both made it into my top 3. I really like this one, but just a little less than the other one.

In fact, a classic, elegant style in clothing is exactly what we all expect from James Bond. I like that they didn’t dress Andrei in a tuxedo and bow tie; that would have been too obvious an homage to the classic Bond and too predictable a choice. Although, of course, they were inspired by Daniel Craig’s James Bond (this actor is the closest to Andrei in cold appearance and calm temperament) . The designer likely used this look as a basis:

Actually, I don’t mind that they replaced the fitted jacket with a vest. First, it’s the right decision from a practical standpoint: the sleeves shouldn’t restrict the athlete’s movements. Second, and I’ll say this again, in the end they didn’t create a suit that was a carbon copy. I know that many people on our forum are against vests on figure skaters, but this particular vest really suits Andrei. Overall, the entire look appears both classic and, at the same time, fresh and unconventional.

I absolutely love that Andrei’s designers have a fresh and unconventional take on ice performance costumes; they strive to think outside the box, incorporating elements of everyday men’s fashion into the skater’s outfit—adding belts, classic trousers, classic and modern vests, and so on. At the very least, it’s interesting.

The combination of black and white really suits Andrei. The turn-down collars on his shirts make him look cute, and the black tie is the perfect finishing touch to the look.

Drawbacks... You know, one young figure skating fan watched Andrei’s performance and was genuinely surprised: “Why did he go out on the ice in a school uniform?” Because in Russia most schools have introduced uniforms for students, and they mostly use exactly these styles of clothing and the same color combination —black and white. Look at this:

Some people compare Andrei in this outfit to a groom or his friend at a wedding.

Despite that, I still really like this outfit, and it takes the bronze medal in my ranking.

We have only two nominees left… Come back tomorrow night to find out who became the vice-champion!

So, today the last intrigue of my ranking will be unveiled, because as soon as I announce the costume that took second place, you'll immediately guess which one I considered the best. Well, no worries. So, the almost-best costume of the 2025-26 season is…

🥈
...Yes, that's it!

🥈 #2 That Guy from My Avatar

For the short program of the 2025-2026 season.

Music: Backstreet Boys – Everybody (Backstreet's Back)
Image: that guy in rags from the iconic 90s music video.

Admit it, you suspected. Of course, you knew I liked this costume. And you might be surprised that it's only in second place on my list. Well, what can I say? There’s another costume I liked even more.

This costume is, quite literally, a cosplay of the character from the music video, and you all remember it well.

It's always advantageous to portray characters with distinct features and eye-catching clothing details. This costume does an excellent job of presenting the character, and we immediately recognize who Andrei is embodying as soon as he steps onto the ice. Speaking of the costume’s merits, the tailored long vest elongates his figure beautifully, making him appear much slimmer. The large white turn-down collar suits Andrey very well; collars like this always suit him.

As for those flapping patches, ties, wide pants, and everything else that might confuse us… After all, Andrei occasionally likes to let loose and step away from his usual image of a proper and serious young man. In real life, he’s a fun guy with a fantastic sense of humor. I love that in this program he gets to showcase his potential and reveal this side of his persona, and this outfit truly helps him set a lively mood.

It's a fantastic costume that works exceptionally well and enhances Andrei’s presence; it suits him perfectly. Moreover, it brings something new and fresh to the performance. It rightfully earns a place on the podium, taking home the silver medal and the title of vice-champion in my ranking.

Have you already figured out which costume will take the top spot on my list? Either way, I look forward to seeing you tomorrow at the award ceremony for the winner! No time to die yet!

My vacation in Egypt has come to an end, as has my vacation in general 😅

I managed to really recharge, recharge my batteries, and have a lot of great experiences!

Now I’ll gradually get back into the swing of things and start preparing for the new season ⛸️

Ladies and gentlemen, now it`s time. For the past eight nights, you’ve been joining me in reviewing Andrei Mozalev’s costumes for the 2025–26 ice skating season — each one better than the last — and we’ve had a great time, but all good things must come to an end. Please give me a moment of your attention; I am now going to name the best costume of the season, and you will all be slightly surprised. Although this costume quite logically took the top spot in the rankings. Remember, we started with a white shirt. Just like in chess, white moves first and…

🥇
…black wins.

🥇
#1 A nearly naked gun in black.

For the free program of the 2025-26 season. Used in September 2025 and from December 2025 to March 2026.

Music: No Time to Die (Billie Eilish cover), James Bond theme
Image: a very elegant and hot spy.

I still don’t understand what the team didn’t like about this costume, why they replaced it with that other one— and then brought it back again. They probably wanted to try a more familiar version of the Bond costume on Andrei. And in the end, they returned to this one because it’s better and suits the athlete more.

Of course, this is also a nod to one of Daniel Craig’s costumes in the James Bond films, specifically this one:

Andrey Mozalev is, of course, a far cry from the actor’s pumped-up, meticulously sculpted physique, but he too has a beautiful, athletic body that would be a shame not to show off and highlight. His body is more like that of a dancer — toned, with muscles that are long and lean rather than bulky. That’s why he looks elegant rather than rugged.

I’ve always noticed that Andrei looks his best in black tracksuits. He has a unique physique that’s rare among figure skaters. He has very broad shoulders and a fairly wide chest, and no diet can change that—it’s just the way nature made him. That’s why the loose, colorful sweaters designed for slender skaters often make him look bulky, especially when he pairs them with dark pants. The same is true of the white shirt he’s worn to death for exhibition performances: it’s cute, romantic, and the white color brightens his complexion, yet at the same time, this white tunic makes his upper body look much heavier. Black knitwear, on the other hand, hugs his athletic chest and shoulders, turning them into a figure’s asset, emphasizing a masculine upper body while simultaneously defining the waist.

I really like how they follow Daniel Craig’s style as James Bond, which combines brutality, restraint, and open masculine sexuality. This suits Andrei very well. Beautiful, athletic male bodies are sexy; there’s no need to be shy about it—you should be proud of them and show them off, especially in such a decent and unobtrusive way. With his innocent, boyish face, Andrei looks more delicate and graceful than brutal and sexy, but nonetheless, he is a very attractive young man in this suit. Damn it, spies are supposed to be sexy—that’s what we expect from them. A spy is a mystery, brutality, and sex appeal, and if you’re drawing on the image of such an overt seducer as Agent 007, you simply can’t help but make his outfit masculine, sensual and erotic.

I like this pants. I’ve already written that, I really like how his designers break away from standards and experiment with modern fashion, incorporating elements of casual wear into the costumes. I like this comfortable and rugged belt. My only complaint about the details is that the faux holster is made of leather in almost the same shade as the suit’s main fabric, so it’s practically invisible. Perhaps the sweater should have been a couple of shades lighter.

Despite this, I consider this to be Andrei’s best performance costume for the 2025–26 season. This outfit suits him very well, turns his body’s features into assets, and showcases his character—in other words, it does its job 100%.

Plus, it’s a winning costume: it was outfit that Andrei won the jump competition, setting several historic records.
Perhaps someday this costume will be displayed in the figure skating hall of fame.

Well, that was my ranking of last season’s costumes. Ahead lies a new season, new programs that we’ll see soon, and new costumes that we’ll see a little later. As for the 2025-26 season, it’s now officially history, but I’m not quite done saying goodbye to it yet. Just a reminder that I’ve decided to put together another ranking of the season’s most significant events for Andrei. Give me a little time to rest, and I’ll get started. I think it’ll be next Saturday or maybe even Friday.

My mozalovers, it’s Friday evening, and I’m launching the third ranking I promised you. Last season saw many interesting and significant events in Andrei’s life and career, and I decided to rank them to preserve them for posterity and officially wrap up the season.

I selected the 10 most significant events of Andrei Mozalev’s sports season and ranked them by importance, from the least significant to the most significant. I’ve also added a photo to each event, so here it is

The Top 10 Most Important Events of the 2025-26 Season for Andrei Mozalev, with photos of the moment!

#10 Andrei completed a full-scale spring tour of various cities with Eteri Tutberidze’s team.

Andrei performs the“Battery”show number in Eteri Tutberidze’s show. Moscow, “Megasport,” 04/22/2026.

Eteri Tutberidze’s team’s spring show is always one of the highlights of the season. It is the only show featuring mostly active figure skaters, where they perform competitive programs with only slightly simplified content and stage a spectacular jump battle at the end of the show. A skaters considers it a honor to participate in at least one show on the spring tour, where they are treated like rock stars. And Andrei was invited to every show in every city on the tour.

In April and May, Andrei visited 9 cities, performed in 11 shows, and took to the ice 40 times (usually four times per show). He attempted about 200 quadruple jumps, most of them successful. It was a highlight of last spring and an unforgettable experience that will, of course, stay with him forever.

#9. Andrei has the unusual show programm for the “Russian Challenge” show program tournament, paired with Alisa Dvoeglazova.

Andrei and Alisa perform their roles in the show number “I Put a Spell on You.” St. Petersburg, Yubileiny Arena, March 4, 2026.

Photo by Divine Melody from her social media.

During the 2025–26 season, Andrei had various collaborations with Alisa Dvoeglazova, and the new duo immediately attracted a lot of attention. After a convincing victory at the Russian Jumping Championships, the pair woke up famous. They appeared in many merchandise ads and became close friends. So when Albena Denkova and Maxim Stavisky proposed the idea for this show number to Andrei and told him he would need an assistant, he didn’t hesitate and called Alisa.

This show routine didn’t make as stunning an impression as Andrei’s joint performance with the dancers in heels in 2023, but nonetheless, it was an interesting, unusual act and a new experience of interacting with a partner on the ice for Andrei. It was also an event worth noting.
