2025-26 Coaching, Country and Discipline Changes

Ah, so she's just changed countries, but is contining to train in Japan. How many spots does Australia have for women? Isn't Hana Bath doing really well in Australia?
It depends if Haruna will competes as senior or junior. She's senior eligible. Hana is still junior. For junior worlds there's enough spots. But for senior competition, Haruna can compete at championship-level competitions if she earns minimum scores (shouldn't be a problem for her I guess).

He is at the camp with Mishin in Kislovodsk but he hasnt confirmed that he will take arsenyy, it's more like a trial period
What a thoughtful, well-considered, mature decision for a teenager going through puberty. If Mishin says no, where will he go?

Mishin does seem like a great choice for him, but if he can't go there, I'd suggest Sokolovskaia. I like what she's done with Kondratiuk.

You just aren't that close to the inner workings of Russian figure skating, so you don’t understand.

Mishin can only work with one athlete, and right now that’s Semenenko, who’s still with us and isn’t going anywhere. It’s a system designed to support a single favorite, built up over the years. Mishin is 85 years old; he’s not going to change now.
At best, Sezganov or Tuktamysheva will work with Arseniy; at worst, he’ll be left to fend for himself. Moreover, if Arseniy continues to cause a scene on the ice, as he did with his previous team, Mishin will quickly show him the door. Then he’ll be left with nothing.

Sokolovskaya is also a one-sportsman coach; all her attention is focused on Mark alone. The results of the other guys in her group clearly demonstrate this.

Arseniy has made a bad choice either way; any option will be worse than what he had with his previous team. It’s very unfortunate when teenage hormones and a bad temper dictate such important decisions. I’m very pessimistic at this stage.

Isabella Flores is part Mexican, with a paternal great grandfather born Mexican.. To establish Mexican citizenship, her grandmother and mother would have to get it first.

I'm confused why you are bringing up Isabella Flores. She's partnered with Linus Jepsen and training in London, Ontario AFAIK.

Harlow Lynella Stanley apparently has a Mexican background, too, but I don't know the details. She was born in Denver, CO. In your last sentence, are you referencing Stanley or Flores??

BTW @labgoat, Harlow Stanley is listed as 5' 8 1/2" while Paul Ayer is reportedly 5'9". Ayer's previous partner, Alicia Fabbri, is 5'4". I also notice that Harlow has long legs, so I do not think her body proportions match Ayer's at all.

Too busy with updates did not look at details, was updating Mexico’s thread and saw her name.

Jepsen is not a great match
Yes, that's true, especially after Isabella was with practically her perfect partner in Ivan Desyatov, and they were such an exciting team to watch, and were progressing very fast together. Even before Desyatov, Dima Tsarevski was a better match than Jepsen, too. However, Flores/ Jepsen have been working very hard together, and there have been some signs of improvement. We'll see how it works out next season. I admire Isabella for not giving up in the face of terrible adversity re suddenly losing good partners, twice.

Really? This is a Mexico requirement? 🤔

With different timing and under other circumstances, Paul Ayer & Isabella Flores might match well physically. But, what would funding look like from Mexico fed? Plus, having to sit out a whole year is not advantageous. In any case, Flores seems committed to Jepsen right now. And most likely, U.S. fed would never release her.

US Fed would probably release her just like they released even bigger stars. Why do you think she wouldn't get released ? I am not saying it's happening but just curious about your comment.

Sure they could release her if it comes down to it. However, I'm not certain Isabella Flores actually desires to be released. Initially, it was thought that she wanted a release to possibly skate for France with Jepsen, but that was never confirmed. For a skater with such shining talent as an ice dancer, coupled with her pioneering and influential engagement on IG, Flores has certainly been handed a raw deal too often. Even when she was showing exciting promise with Desyatov in their just over two seasons together, USfed, instead of fully embracing Flores/ Desyatov, seemed to prefer favoring MIDA teams who partnered a year or two later, including Wolfkostin/ Tsarevski and the unproven Morosov/ Chen (M/C did not even last a full season).

That said, I think USfed appreciates and recognizes Flores' unique, 'diamond-in-the-rough' abilities, and is probably unwilling/ reluctant to see her achieve success repping another country.

Flores/Jepsen recetntly relocated to Ontario to train with Scott and his team, I don't think they would do that just to split right after. He's just moved from his hometown to a different continent for the sake of this partnership.

they released even bigger stars
Umm, sure, but I don't think U.S. fed (nor any federation) purposely makes a practice of releasing 'big stars.' The U.S. did not reckon that Deanna Stellato would find her perfect match in Canada and rise quickly to the top in pairs. Had they understood that her determination and luck in pairing with Max Deschamps would bear amazing fruit, they probably would have held onto Deanna and tried to find her another match in the U.S. She had asked U.S. fed for help after the split with Nate B due to his uncertainty about continuing post-surgery. But they were lukewarm about offering assistance, so Deanna headed north and the stars aligned. 🥰 U.S. fed made Deanna wait two years, and they gave Gabby Izzo a hard time, too. Of course, Gabby later ended up in Austria with Luc Maierhofer, having not been active competitively for over two years. Thus, finally receiving her release was expected.

The recent release of the amazing Jean-Luc Baker, is not because U.S. fed was eager to let him go. They had little choice of holding onto him under the circumstances of his starmaking pairing with Marjo, and the fact he has been inactive competitively for three years. Added to that, his stellar work as a commentator & choreographer, plus the heartbreak of Hawayek/ Baker having to prematurely retire a few years ago. Not granting a release for Baker immediately would have been sulky and silly on the part of USfed.
