2026-27 Russian Women's Figure Skating

Someone told me yesterday that Alisa has basically gone silent on everyone at Team Tut for the past week. 😬
You need to keep us updated with your insider scoops. I haven't seen any of this anywhere.

Who knows, maybe they patch things up over the summer. Though I don't think moving to Mishin would be the worst thing for her. The last thing I think any of us fans want to see is for Alisa to become another Sofya Akatyeva. 😭
BTW, do you know anything about Akateva generally? I want to see her come back strong.

I think the Eteri project is on the downturn in general at this point. They managed to break Adeliia twice in her Olympic year. Unforgivable TBH. I don't think you'll find a skater hardier and better built for the sport than her and they still managed to wreck her. It really is pathetic.

Imo that 'perform harder content than you are comfortable with' led to Basylyuk's FS disaster and subsequent injuries after her 3A in SP that she didn’t want to do as well. That team never learns and never teaches athletes to listen to their bodies' feedback, quite the opposite (based on Kostornaya's quotes) and this is imo what causes so many early injuries. Not really a deep mystery.

Anyway, i am so glad to hear that more Russian juniors might be able to change feds. Hoping to hear about some pairs doing it as well.

Well, yes, if you look at my previous post about how stacked the Russian pairs field is, it's pretty apparent how glorious it is. 😅

I'm just saying that despite some of the dismissive comments about her prospects, Anna could have had a nice career for herself in singles. And I'm also pointing out that I don't think advancing in pairs will be much if any easier than it would have been in singles.

That doesn't mean she shouldn't have made the move, or that it won't work out for her. I'll be rooting for Anna.

I agree with you completely and also will be rooting for her.

It's been all over the Russian media that she's injured and not expected to be ready for the start of the season.

I also wouldn't be shocked if, when Alisa returns, it's to Mishin and not Eteri. I think she blames Team Tut for her injury situation. (She was apparently made to perform advanced content during the Team Tut tour despite already having injury trouble, which might have led to something more serious.) I hear there was some friction and resentment over the favoritism Sasha was immediately shown by Eteri after her return, despite Alisa arguably being their strongest senior last season. And then, of course, there's the Arseniy factor.

Separately, I wouldn't be shocked if we see Liza Andreeva jump over to Team Sokolovskaya.
Didn't her and Arseniy break up? Ppl seem to think so and that she's with Mozalev now...(which I hope isn't true, given the differences in age)
But I won't be surprised if she leaves. She was kind of pushed to the side last season in favor of Adeliia, and she made it known that she wasn't happy about losing to her at nats. I'm sure she sees the writing on the wall with Sasha being back and maybe isn't willing to put up with the favoritism and being pushed to the side again

It seems Mura is on ice and she says everything is going well for her. Wonder what she's been up to and where she'll go next. Wonder where she's training.

Russian Ministry of Sports included JGP in Thailand and China to its calendar. :coffee:

It's simply planning because if positive decision comes, they won't have time to plan. They already have only 2 months, in the summer, and it is still up in the air. I wouldn't read more than that into it. It's not on the official calendar I have access to publicaly anyway.

I just saw the news that Russians will be back on International FS. But for the 2026-27 season, only one spot in each category.
The first international competition is Junior GP in China in Agust. No idea how Russia will select the skaters for only one spot. I hope to see Elena Kostyleva and both Lev Lazarev, and Arseny Fedotov there. For China no visa issue at all. Junior Test skate happens in August - so it is going to be a very harsh competition - because many juniors are so strong in Russia. For Elena no rival in Junior International at the moment.
Only one spot for each category but still i am very happy already for it. I will now re-watch the International FS competitions.

As seniors will be able to skate internationally too, I do want to see Maria Zakharova out there. She was a revelation for me at Nats. She might not be consistent with her 4T, but I think she has great potential, and who knows, the international judges might like her as she has a lot of sass imo.

She needs a lot of work on steps, etc. though

She'll be scored like Samodelkina with a quad. They can't send anyone except Petrosian right now. Muravieva/Gorbacheva are the only holistically international level skaters Russia has otherwise, but one is no longer Russian and the other is an unknown after injury. Frolova/Sinitsyna struggling, Sadkova very inconsistent, Dvoelgazova low PCS, Valieva ineligible.

As we've all seen Russian women are in a dearth. Dzepka stabilized will be international level, and we'll see what happens with Sasha. Not sure who else there is.

We will see how it goes. One thing for sure, it is going to be interesting season. I think Gorbacheva will have first dibs on a challenger since she already has AIN. Providing she is in competitive shape after her surgery.

Also, Russian dearth is other countries' embarrassment of reaches. No other nation has stable ssnior women with ultra c either. With one jumping pass/combo less, solid higher level triple-triple combos will be great score makers.

I really want to see Trusova in testing. I want an actual true return for her so badly, but I am also freaking out about the limits of possible. Curious as well if Nelyubova will seize her chance and finally stops being overlooked.
