Memorable Debuts on the JGP

Probably due to competing with Plushenko. Somewhere along the line a men's spot was lost and the battle for 2010 & 2014 became intense. Plushenko was doing pro stuff and was often injured but decided to make a comeback at home Olympics. Russia had only earned one spot for Olympics and Plushenko WD after winning the SP leaving no Russian man to replace him in time. I wish I remembered the details, but I don't and am too tired to look them up.
That makes sense, it just seems so sad that a promising career just fell apart and his scores plummeted after a promising start. I know he isn't the only one (and Han Yan's is even sadder because his early senior career was good).

That’s why I posted them here when they were young and strong and beautiful skaters.

Maybe not all debuts, but the 2009 Junior Worlds Pairs SP has programs for many skaters. I have not seen this in years and their are many familiar names. Here is a link to the 2009 JW rewatch where I've just added the links and where I hope we may get the FS as well - please and thank you Ulrich

Alena Kanysheva
2018 Linz
Lovely performance..
Such a shame her career was so short-lived..

Such a lovely snow queen. Beautiful posture, softness and delicacy to her skating.
Thanks for posting her skating. Such a gorgeous dress.

Posting this ice dance couple also from Russia that split up after a couple of seasons. This is their second JGP 2016 - could not find their first but I like this and kept the video

St. Gervais
Romeo and Juliet
Sofia Polishchuk/Alexander Vakhaov

Yes I remember this couple and this beautiful program with her yellow dress. They were quite promising and at one point beat Lajoie & Lagha I believe. Such an airy, sensitive program. Thanks for posting it. I nicknamed her as Sofia Polish-chick. I thought they were going to go places. Here is their Black Swan from their final JGP year.

They remind me a bit of Neset/Markelov. I was sad when they split.. he left for another skater, I believe, who then in turn left him for another short lived partnership, such a surprise and now no word from anyone. Beyond the the 3 A’s (have missed them) I know nothing of Russian skating tho I liked Petr’s programs last year.
EDT to add this is a fantastic enjoyable thread! Spending some time here discovering artists before my time🤗

2001 Junior Worlds was the battle of two talented young men who had a lengthy rivalry
Who do you think got the upper hand here?

Evan Lysacek

Johnny Weir

Mikhail Shaidorov - Gdansk 2021

Nobody knew him at that time. And he came, landed two huge toe loops and won silver. That was the first and only JGP medal for Kazakhstan. Before the event he had a difficult off-season with an injury. He has improved in PCS a lot since then.

One of my favorite pieces of music. really nice to remember this.

In season 2009/2010 Elena ILINYKH - Nikita KATSALAPOV qualified to the JGP Final, where they took the silver medal behind Ksenia Monko / Kirill Khaliavin. Though second also at the Russian Junior Championships, Ilinykh/Katsalapov outscored Monko/Khaliavin for the gold at the 2010 World Junior Championships.

2010 World Junior , Free Dance.
Even with the dramatic ending, I like the program, and I love them.
