That makes sense, it just seems so sad that a promising career just fell apart and his scores plummeted after a promising start. I know he isn't the only one (and Han Yan's is even sadder because his early senior career was good).

Maybe not all debuts, but the 2009 Junior Worlds Pairs SP has programs for many skaters. I have not seen this in years and their are many familiar names. Here is a link to the 2009 JW rewatch where I've just added the links and where I hope we may get the FS as well - please and thank you Ulrich

Yes I remember this couple and this beautiful program with her yellow dress. They were quite promising and at one point beat Lajoie & Lagha I believe. Such an airy, sensitive program. Thanks for posting it. I nicknamed her as Sofia Polish-chick. I thought they were going to go places. They remind me a bit of Neset/Markelov. I was sad when they split.. he left for another skater, I believe, who then in turn left him for another short lived partnership, such a surprise and now no word from anyone. Beyond the the 3 A’s (have missed them) I know nothing of Russian skating tho I liked Petr’s programs last year.
EDT to add this is a fantastic enjoyable thread! Spending some time here discovering artists before my time

Mikhail Shaidorov - Gdansk 2021
Nobody knew him at that time. And he came, landed two huge toe loops and won silver. That was the first and only JGP medal for Kazakhstan. Before the event he had a difficult off-season with an injury. He has improved in PCS a lot since then.

Two partnerships that I really liked, and which perfectly illustrate either side of the argument over mixing business and pleasure.
Both partnerships were in relationships off the ice, and both on-ice partnerships split. But that is where the similarities end.
Elena ILINYKH / Nikita KATSALAPOV (RUS) were probably the best Ice Dance partnership of their generation. And Elena in particular was the stand-out talent. But off-ice drama brought a premature end to their partnership. They were a partnership on and off the ice, and when the off-ice relationship ended, they continued as a partnership on-ice. But then Elena started dating their coach. And it all got very messy.
When they split, another very good partnership, Viktoria SINITSINA / Ruslan ZHIGANSHIN (RUS), was broken up to provide them each with new partners. And although Sinitsina / Katsalapov did go on to have success together, including winning the World Championships, neither of the new partnerships had the same magic as Ilinykh / Katsalapov. It is a travesty that a talent as great as Elena Ilinykh just quietly faded out of the picture having not won any of the Senior Majors.
Meanwhile, Ksenia MONKO / Kirill KHALIAVIN (RUS) show the other side of the coin. Although they didn't reach the heights at Senior level that Elena and Nikita did, Ksenia and Kirill were still getting good results. The on-ice partnership unfortunately ended when Ksenia had to retire through injury. But Ksenia and Kirill remained a partnership off the ice, getting married a year after their on-ice partnership ended.
When not getting along off-ice caused Spain's star Ice Dance partnership Sara HURTADO / Adrià DIAZ to split, Kirill became Sara's new on-ice partner (while English skater Olivia SMART became Adria's new partner). I was a big fan of Hurtado / Diaz and, although I missed the old partnership, I subsequently became a fan of Hurtado / Khaliavin. (I never took to Smart / Diaz).
Sara, Kirill and Ksenia now run a successful coaching school in Madrid. And I am now a big fan of their star students, Sofía VAL / Asaf KAZIMOV (ESP). In fact, I also like the other partnerships they coach: Philomène SABOURIN / Raúl BERMEJO (ESP), Sophia BUSHELL / Antonio PEÑA (GBR) and Gaukhar NAURYZOVA / Boyisangur DATIEV (KAZ).
