In any case, if you're landing in Paris, you'll have regional trains between Paris Montparnasse and Angers, they're nearly never full and rarely at reduced prices (and their sales start three months before the journey), actually many travellers just buy the tickets when they arrive at the departure station (but there may be queues at both automated and in-person selling points). Paris subway isn't very pleasant though, nor very safe and there aren't escalators or lifts everywhere. Since I already got the flights, I decided to buy the train tickets too, I was able to pick the cheapest fares so at least I don’t have to worry about them once I arrive. But when I was booking the seats they were still lots to choose from, indeed.

I'll travel completely by train and I was so worried about changing stations in Paris since I've never been before, but now I found a route via Strasbourg, which is way less stressful

As of today, yes. All in Pairs. Schaller/Mayr have retired, so that's one spot at Finlandia Trophy. Danilova/Tsiba are taking the year off, so that's two spots - Skate America and NHK Trophy.

That's interesting. I would hope that Liu/ Bedard would be in line for a second spot at NHK, since they only have one GP at Cup of China. Plus, due to all the splits and new pairings, U.S. teams are not well represented in the initial assignments.
While the official alternates list for pairs has not been released, it's clear that the majority of the teams who would normally be on the top of that list are either retired or individually in new partnerships. Akopova/ Rahkmanin would be second on that list, but they already have two GPs. Chan/ Howe would be at the top of the list, but they are split. I'm assuming that Shin/ Howe will get a SA tbd spot, with possibly Andrews/ Parkman or McBeath/ Nagy receiving the second open host spot.
If new pairings are not eligible for the alternates list, then I suppose another international team who only have one assignment would get the nod for the open spots at Finlandia and Skate America. There's also the open spot at SkAm (since Danilova/ Tsiba had two spots). The SkAm opening will probably go to an international team who need a second GP assignment.

For now - It should be Holychenko/Darenskyi and Liu/Bedard - getting second spot.
Assuming that Beccari/Guarise are done.

And this is also the reason why all new pairs taking part in Challengers are added to the list of alternates, as long as they achieve the minimum score (137.00 this season).

I wonder when will they invite teams to take over a vacant spots. Do they do it shortly after WD or will they wait until CS are done?

Usually, they invite the replacements relatively quickly, but who knows.
USFS will likely be particularly interested in inviting a team now instead of waiting until better teams repopulate the alternate list, to not make it harder for Alisa and Misha to medal.

Ah, I didn't know that host federations had to invite skaters on the alternate list. I thought skaters have the option of choosing or rejecting an available opening or openings.
However the assignments are given, I would think Liu/Bedard might want NHK, as many skaters enjoy skating in Japan. Finlandia would be a nice option, too. Perhaps U.S. fed will select Holichenko/ Darenskyi, with Japan inviting Liu/ Bedard to NHK. That would leave Caldara/Maglio in line for Finland.
In looking at the various GP pairs fields, at this point, I would guess L/B might land in 5th or 6th place at CoC, if they compete well. If they are assigned to Finlandia, I think their results could be 4th, 5th, or 6th, depending on their performances vs how well others compete. At NHK, I see L/B as a solid 4th or 5th. Obviously, I could be totally off the mark. Anything can happen. But, based on past results, this is my take.
Regarding SkAm, at this point, I see:
Hase/Volodin - first
Efimo/Mitrofa - second
Vouilla/Bouvart - third
If assigned:
Shin/ Howe - fourth *
and either, Starr/Daniil or
McB/Nagy - fifth
Toss-up for sixth & seventh between
Holichenko/ Darenskyi and
Kemp/ Elizarov
Faula/ Belle - 8th
* Shin/ Howe might surprise for a higher placement
Of course, final entries, as well as final results, remain uncertain right now.

Certainly, we all know all of the above, but I suppose looking at it in black and white is an eye-opening palate cleanser.

Yeah the data when put together is pretty astonishing, can’t remember anything close to that kind of numbers of retired, split, undecided and in search of new partners in my 50 years of following FS.
