Great launch of the C/R campaign to get Skate America host spot. 10 points winning margin is impresive.

Lots to digest now that videos are coming out. Glad to see Pate & Bye rallied from the RD. Even though the Mullens dropped, I am glad to see a strong RD score. That is the tougher program to get right and they did well. I feel confident that the will have an easier time bringing up the FD scores to ultimately challenge the others. I am a bit concerned for Pham & Spirodonov who seem to be stuck. She in particular is very talented and expressive.
Thrilled with Kuevi & Homawoo who seem to be gaining ground and that Stapert & Korotkov seem to be making progress after a rocky start.

I heard that USfigsk already designated Wolf/Tsar and Neset/Markelov to the SkAm host spots, joining already assigned Zingas/Kolesnik. We discussed this in the U.S. ice dance thread. It is unusual for USfed to announce GP host spots prior to the Lake Placid event taking place. Yet, I doubt they will backtrack on the SkAm host assignments unless something unforeseen happens.
The Cui/ Rogers 'campaign' is to be the best they can be, and to gain as many competitive chances they can to shine. Anyone who is interested in helping Amy and Jonathan, please check out Jonathan's IG and go to his Gofundme link to support his athlete journey. @lariko, since you mention not knowing anything about Cui/ Rogers, they partnered in March 2024, and quickly began to show promise. Jonathan formerly skated with Vanessa Pham, in juniors. The above ice dance.com link provides additional background on Amy & Jonathan. At 2026 U.S. Nationals, I thought C/R were impressive, and that their scores should have been even higher. But that's the way of the sport's perception-driven, status-driven (rep & favoritism-based) scoring system. Overall, C/R did well at U.S. Nats in January, pulling up to 9th in FD from lowball 12th in RD, and 10th overall, with Chock/ Bates and the Shibs competing. With those teams no longer in the picture, and judging by this great LP start to the new season, I believe C/R are competitive enough to place at least 7th at 2027 Nats.

I found the below FD practice video of Cui/Rogers' 2025 Swan Lake FD. Listen to Jean Luc's astute commentary regarding Jonathan's overarched back. I hope Jonathan heard the critique and made a correction.

Obviously, N/M will have to go home, continue working on RD pattern steps, and find a way to ensure they ace their lifts minus time deductions! No team can afford to give away points. Meanwhile, kudos to my faves. I can't wait to see their programs.
Love that they are currently featured in the GS header.

I have to see the free programs of all the skaters so I can pick my favorites. Looking forward to seeing all the skaters first and their summer progress. We will see if past favorites are still on my watch lists. My time is precious and I need to make some edits.

Just realized that my new CAN faves Florence BEAUSOLEIL / Remi THIBAULT overtook the Carandiucs in their first international. I knew I saw something in them other than a pretty name.
Also the dancing cousins Anaelle KOUEVI / Yann HOMAWOO USA finished within a hair of Jane CALHOUN / Mark ZHELTYSHEV - very encouraging.

I've just seen what I posted here before the competition started, I'm such a dunderhead, ofcourse I meant to say IAM in London, Ontario, not Montreal, apologies. My next door neighbour is on holiday in Montreal currently, maybe I had that in mind!Good Luck Lucy & Aiden making their International debut after one season together domestically in Canada. Now training in Montreal at IAM. Any hope of seeing any footage?
But they did great on International debut, finishing 7th, top Canadian team and top International team after the Americans. Go Lucy & Aiden!

It's wonderful to see this team developing and shining. This is such a fun, dramatic, and engaging program, based on exciting, edgy source material. It's a program that works very well for them at this stage of their development. They will have the chance to grow with Sinners and further 'sink their teeth into' the program's nuances over the course of the season.
I have some thoughts about the other top performances I'll probably share later in the U.S. ice dance thread.

Kaitlyn Weaver suggested the Sinners idea to Cui/ Rogers right after she saw the film. I forgot that C/R had mentioned in their most recent icedance .com feature about working with Weaver on their exciting new FD. It's not surprising that KWeaver choreographed this program. Weaver has done wonderful work for years, especially her choreo work for the former team, Flores/ Desyatov. Weaver should hopefully be nominated for an ISU award for her choreographic excellence and her body of work. ️
I have been re-watching the Sinners FD, and I also saw the film. Plus, I've read commentary about these particular characters, Bo and Grace Chow. Actually, Grace has the stronger, more dominant personality in the film. She was not a victim to her husband's vampirism. *** [Spoiler Alert] Her wanting to escape the juke joint entrapment is what causes her husband to be bitten.*** I recognize that Weaver can only adapt a few bits from the film for a young team. And also, Jonathan is the more dominant talent and personality in this young ice dance partnership. Still, I hope Amy will ultimately be able to convey more strength and feisty courage in her portrayal of Grace.
I wish C/R could also be less cliche in their obligatory steps toward the judges. Instead of merely glaring in the judges' faces, why not at the boards have Grace suddenly grab Bo by the neck and push him backward, showing her defiance and courage. They could move into a furious spin at the end and then slump in each others' arms and twirl downward in a heap, which would better convey what actually happens at the end of the film. Sorry for the spoilers for those who haven't yet seen the film.
This FD for Cui/ Rogers, once again, shows the importance of rich music selection, and depth of story and character. I hope Weaver and C/R's coaches will do a bit more to help C/R bring out more of the characters' nuances. It's not your traditional vampire horror story.
Grace and Bo are supporting characters, too, not even the main characters in the film. But they are strongly written, and based in reality on Southern Chinese-American grocers in the Mississippi Delta.
