Kimmie withdraws from Nationals

According to icenetwork, Kimmie has withdrawn due to injury.

Wow. I'm a bit surprised. She's a very determined skater who tends to fight through most adversity. I wonder if the injury came from any over-training. She's been struggling so much to recover her jumps and gain levels on her spins and footwork.

Hope she recovers. Nice person.

I am stunned. Kimmie cannot expect to get a bye to worlds...her results the past year + have not been high enough. I wonder how seriously she is hurt. If it is that bad, we might have seen the last of Miss Meissner. Making the olympic team is looking bleak.

If it's not too serious, this could be actually good for her to concentrate and work on her jumps. Still, it's a shame since she finally had a great program this year.

That's a shame. But other skaters have gone through slumps and made successful comebacks - Eldredge, Slutskaya, Joubert, Arakawa, to name a few. I hope she comes back strong for the Olympic year.

Damn. Can't say I'm surprised though, for some strange reason. It's like I saw it coming, sorta :indiff:

ETA: Actually, it might be BETTER that she misses this Nats than has yet another poor showing here. That would have been the end for sure. Instead, she has time to recover and hopefully try to get something going in the Olympic year. And pray endlessly that the two that get sent to LA can earn back three spots.

I must say though, I was looking forward to seeing her. The anticipation dropped a notch (not that it was high to begin with).

Ugh, that's so sad. I know she's better than the 8th places she was getting in the GP events this season and I had looked forward to her trying to prove herself at Nationals. Wait, what is the injury? I hope it's legit rather than her heart just not being in it, or something like that. Still, I wish her a speedy recovery and hope to see her on the ice again soon. She's always been a favorite of mine.

I'm very sad for Kimmie. I was really hoping that she can shine with her programs at National's. She was going for that "happy" persona on ice, and she was pretty convincing early in the season. Given that she announced her withdrawal last minute, I think it means either she was physical or mentally on the border, and maybe she was hoping she could make it, but wasn't sure, and waited until last minute to see if things would improve...

I didn't imagine that this season would be even worse than last. I thought if she could get her jumps together and her confidence back, then she'd still be a force to reckon with, at least at National's. All the pre-season articles were so positive... But I did worry that maybe it sounded like she and her team believed that it was all mental, all about her confidence, whereas there really were serious problems with her jumps, and unless they really addressed them, then feeling confident/happy alone wasn't going to get her season turned around. With under-rotations being so severely penalized these days, and her jumps being so prone to downgrading, the low scores would be eating into her confidence at each outing. I hope that her heart is still in skating, and that she takes the long off-season until the fall season to really work on her jump technique. With the state of Kimmie's and Miki's skating and attitudes, it's looking like two of the four (maybe three, if Mao repeats) world champions since the last Olympics will finish off the podium in Vancouver...

How heart breaking for Meissner. Like others have said, though, maybe it is a blessing. She can rest up and make sure any injuries heal and she can get back to training hard nice and early in preparation for next season. Presumably missing out on Nationals will mean missing 4CC and worlds. I suppose a medical bye to 4CC is more likely (though still not that likely) than one to worlds.

Missing the championships will surely mean she'll be far down the list for GP picks next season so Meissner might find herself at regionals/sectionals unless the timing of Skate America would help her get a bye if USFS chose to name her to the skate america team?

Again - any word on what the actual injury is?
