Ladies SP

This cameraman is irritating. Instead of showing everyone during the warm-ups, he/she picks one out and keep following that skater.

I will have to say it is indeed the judges's problem. Caroline's technique is better than last year although it's just a little bit improvement. And she skated way better than last year, but the judges' score clearly is telling her another story, "No you didn't improve at all, you skated as bad as last year."

Caroline barely gave anything to the judges to work with. Or rather she gave them enough reasons to hammer her with -GOEs. It's fruitless to be comparing judges and their scores when each competition has a new set of judges. She improved on speed. However, technique-wise, her flutz is no where smaller, her mule kick hasn't changed, nor has the quality of her edges improved. Caroline can skate lights out but her technique would put a dampener on her score, very much like how Yukari can skate lights out but her leg-wrap will hurt her score. In fact 1/5 (1/6?) of her PCs score is based on skating skills and that takes a severe blow from her poor technique.

Why do people continue to se flash photography despite warning after warning about how dangerous it is?

People don't listen unfortunately. It's not as if the lights are out. There is enough lighting in rink. It may not be ideal but safety first.

Alexe Gilles (The Girl with the Flaxen Hair)

The male announcer really, really needs some coaching on pronunciation
3T+3T tilted on first, incredibly tilted on the second one, fall possible UR
3Lz nice comeback
FSSp3, very slow
SpSq4
LSp4 slowed way down on beillman
SlSt nice
This is good music for her
2A
CCoSp4
Nice, calm performance after the 3T mistake

I don't think the current US judges know how to judge properly to help cultivate a skater. They need to learn from their Japanese counterparts on how to judge skating in a productive way. You give the penalty for a skater's mistakes and shortcomings but at the same time you also reward them for their improvements.

3T+3T was definitely rotated, despite what Nancy seems to think. Her blade was straight back when she fell.

Because in this age, people want what they want and feel they deserve instant pictures. It really is selfish and shows their unconcern for the safety of the skaters.

There is a great audio clip on YouTube of Patti Lupone, on Broadway in the current run of Gypsy, stopping in mid-song (Rose's turn) to literally chew out an audience member taking flash pictures. She is LIVID and screams at the person, "Who do you think you are? Stop taking pictures NOW!"

It is quite something to hear.

"You're a crappy skater, but hey you're less crappy than last year, so here you go. A gift!"

Mirai Nagasu (Smile), same music as this year's novice silver medalist

3Lz + ? supposed to be a 2T but IN sucks, possible UR, couldn't see
3F+2T apparently didn't do it on 3Lz, possible UR
FSSp3
2A really low, hung on, possible UR
SpSq4
LSp3 great flexibility as usual
CiSt lots of character, big smile
CCoSp4, 11 revolutions in I-spin
Not her best, not her worst. Really hard to tell if the jumps were rotated without replay and with crappy angles.

She stayed on her foot. But she's still very bouncy on her ankle.
I don't know what happened on that lutz.

interesting language, but as a matter a fact, if it is less "crappy", then certainly there should be a reward!

I hope her jumps were rotated. I like Mirai.

ETA Ok. Lets give all the skaters who skated less crappily this year special medals! :p

IMHO, the US judges didn't know how to judge properly with all the fluffing they've been doing until recently. I think they're (trying) to tell it like it is. The truth hurts, so be it.

When the crappiness of the feed hits just right, it appears that a jump has been doubled when it isn't.
