Senior Ladies LP

I have a feeling Rachel is going to hate her last name throughout her career...

Whoa. Back to the skating...

I've seen all the LPs now and would rank them as:

1. Wagner
2. Zhang
3. Flatt
4. Czisny
5. Nagasu

Rachael is reliable but leaves me "flat".

pun intended or not?

I don't care how she skates. At this point we NEED someone like her, someone who can be counted on to deliver when necessary. But I can't help but feel for her a bit, because she's had two great FS at Nats and still has no Championship to show for it. Things may be different at the world championships if Rachel can duplicate what she did here. I wouldn't completely rule out a top 5 finish if we have a repeat of what happened last year in the ladies' final (yuck). For her to get a medal, I hate to say this, but it might take a withdrawal from one of the top contenders. I wonder if Zhang would be a good alternative to Alyssa, but I think it's actually a toss-up. They had similar results in the GP. Zhang might be considered the "safe" choice, and Czisny might be the "reach" choice (IOW, if Czisny does her best, she will surely place higher than Zhang would if she did hers).

I wonder if Rachel would have won Nats under 6.0. Or maybe the presentation mark would have given Czisny the title anyway.

I think at this point it's better to be "safe" than sorry. We have no breathing room for anything else.

Well, as it turns out, there's not much of a choice given the results and the rules. Basically, Czisny goes unless she chooses to WD. In the event she does WD (or Rachel for that matter), then Zhang goes as the first alternate.

woulda coulda shoulda.... 6.0 is gone why revert back?

I'm not asking for it back.

but why even wonder, programs and skaters would all be different under a different system.

I would move Nagasu ahead of Czisny, and if Nagasu didn't have the UR, I'd move her into the 1st place. Also I think Wagner got overscored for her LP, she was indeed fast but her skating in the LP was so unpolished. The "fastness" almost seemed like she was trying to hide something in her jumps.

My sincere apologies in advance if this has already been asked, but are the detailed results for Nationals events been posted anywhere yet? Thanks to whoever can direct me to their location.

Resume discussion of ladies event.

I thought Angela Maxwell was underscored. 6 triples, lots of speed and spunk and used the music much better than any baby ballerina out there.

I read the protocols. Caroline did not have one jump with a positive GOE, even the 3 loop combo, which I though was lovely. Rachel did not get credit for the 3/3. I wonder why Alissa only planned 5 triples. She only did 3 of them, even the one she fell on was downgraded.

On the side note, Caroline got credit for her 3F-3T in the SP (the only ratified 3-3 combination in the nationals). And in Skate Canada, she also got credit for her 3F-3T even her program was a disaster there. So overall Caroline's 3-3 is not bad (actually I believe she got more ratified 3-3 jumps than Miki Ando in the last two seasons) although her mule kick won't give her some positive GOE.

I didn't get that feeling at all. Her program showed good control with the transitions and her expression, and she used the music FAR better than Zhang or Flatt. Plus, as you mentioned, better speed. Her spins have also improved, she was superior in that area to Flatt. When you weigh everything, it was simply the best overall. Not amazing in any aspect, but absolutely solid in every regard. Everyone else had large flaws.

I'll give Nagasu another look but her program wasn't special on first look. She did have better speed than Zhang and Flatt but, like them, she seemed to only be concentrating on the tech elements instead of giving a performance.

Yeah, I liked her. I remember her spins being weak, though? 7th place (which she got) is probably accurate.

I thought Alexe Gilles was overscored. She had poor spin positions and a lacking performance. I would have had her as 11th in the free (instead of 8th). Joelle Forte was definitely underscored, imo. She was 13th but I would have put her at least 10th.
