Dance - Free

It's a misrepresentation to say D/S only won because they are Russian. They skated an admirable, champion-like performance tonight.

4 teams skated admirable, champion-like performances, and then the Russians won with their more boring free dance because they were Russian. Does that achieve the level of accuracy you wanted?

Don't forget, all of the top 6 teams have russian coaches ))) So it was almost russian podium )))

I'm so happy and so proud of Oksana and Maxim! It wasn't easy for them because of Maxim's knee, coaches switch, etc. And they desereved their title! Congratulations!

Ohhhh. So then it was a problem of the judges not noticing B&A's Russian-ness. Maybe next year Johnny Weir can lend them his Russian attire to wear in the K&C to avoid this problem.

Or maybe next year B/A can do an FD that's actually interesting, and then they can avoid this problem. I saw Tosca when they did it on the GP circuit, and if both top teams skated well last night, I find DomShab's FD preferable. I'm not Russian, and my favorite dance teams are the Kerrs and Pechalat/Bourzat, but this anti-Russian stuff is getting tired.

Not quite. BA was the most boring of the four.
The crowd erupted in applause for BA...but then died down rather quickly.
Thats a hint that even the pro US fans couldn't sustain their enthusiasm for more than 30 seconds.

Most exciting? that's easy! DW

Am I the only one here to think that that D/S's victory is outrageouse?
I'm sorry but how can one honestly justify it when:
a) Their original dance had barely anything to do with the theme required.
b) Their FD didn't have any real difficulties
c) Artisticly, their FD was just a load of grand gestures, the Spartacus theme was not interpreted.

V/B or B/A would have deserved to win.
It's as if the judges really want D/S to win no matter what. I'm not even sure they should be on the podium let alone win gold. Then one wonders why there are so many accusations of corruption.

I don't think it was outrageous since the scores where so close in the FD and their FD certainly was difficult although I found it quite boring. But I do believe they were overscored in the OD. Their spin was travelling so badly and they still got positive GOEs for it, I don't really understand that.

I watched some of the FDs since I last posted. I did not watch B/A, but I saw D/W, K/N and DomShabs. I don'tthink the win was outrageous. It is debatable, however. Overall, compared to 2008 Worlds, I feel this year we got less inspired programs from some of the top teams throughout the competition. Last year we got Del/Schoe's lovely Piano program and V/M had a beautiful FD. The ODs were fantastic. This year so many fo the teams seemed either overcautious or, at the other extreme, sloppy.

Specifically as to our new World champions, I believe some of the lifts DomShabs did were quite difficult, so no dificulty is an exxageration. They did not perform that program as well as they could have, but it's not an empty program as some have suggested, and I don't feel it was lacking in interpretation to the extent you say. But suggesting that does not mean people are ignorant about ice dance, as one poster seems to think. We can disagree about these things, and in fact I'd rather we did, or this would be a boring discussion.

Just finished watching the FD via Eurosport.

I'm really proud of Tessa and Scott. They had a disastrous original but came back with a vengeance and fought back with a beautiful free dance. No, it wasn't perfect but what a huge victory for them. I thought Davis and White were fantastic and should soon overtake Belbin and Agosto. The crowd clearly chose their favourite between the two teams!

I'm curious what these commentators are thinking about D/S. Someone commented there that they were subjective and biased but towards whom. Unfortunately my French isn't that good. It would be great if someone could translate...

These commenators, especially Philipe Pélissier really hate D/S (I seem as if I love them next to him...). Basicaly, he said that there were no difficulties, that artisticly they were making big gestures because they had nothing to express and because they're not good actors. He also says that it's just recylcling what we've seen for the last 30 years and that there's no originality whatsoever. They say it's heavy, that everything is just illusional (artistic and technical). He says ice-dancing is like all-in wrestling, one anounces the results before.

Thanks! Sounds like they were a little too harsh.

I decided to get 8 hours noninterrupted sleep for the first time in 5 days and missed the ice-dance decision. I wake up and the Russians won! But where is the controversy? Where are the wuz-robbed cries? This thread isn't even 30 pages long, what's up with you people?

Come to think of it, I so should have slept through the men's long program too... Might have ended differently.

Have not seen the other skaters yet but to be honest i did enjoy watching D/S, yes its seems more open than the other top teams and not as difficult though i cannot comment yet on where i thought everyone should place. Dramatic , and more simple but still enjoyable.
