To be totally honest, I do not know what the meaning of what power in figure skating is in Singles skating.
And speed to me, must be commensurate with the variance of the music.
I will watch Caroline for the variance in speed this upcoming season.
A skater can keep up good speed during slow parts of the music, but she needs to do it with fewer strokes so that her feet aren't making quick movements that don't match the tempo. That's where power comes in.
"Power" is basically the distance the skater covers per stroke (which demostrates the power generated by each push). "Speed" is how quickly the skater gets from point A to point B, which could be done in 5 strokes or 10. "Quickness" is how quickly a skater can move her feet, whether it be quick strokes in succession or quick turns or steps. All of these terms are used in the teaching and scoring of the USFSA moves in the field tests. Didn't you take those when you were skating?
