Karen Magnussen 1973 world championship long program

I liked her forward flying sit much better than either the spiral or the Ina Bauer. And the split jumps in different directions.

Well, Karen set the bar for the spiral and other skaters followed. She always included one in her programs. Karen could do a spiral the entire length of the Pacific Coliseum skating arena.

Thanks for commenting.

Her flying sit is huge and under such control. It's a shame so few female or male skaters do it anymore. It's gets really boring watching one death drop after another especially since they aren't usually that high off the ice.

When you get the hang of it, flying sits are actually a lot of fun to do. There is just a timing trick and then they are actually very simple. I am surprised most skaters do not learn them. Perhaps a low base value?

Yes, I find a lot of moves the skaters such as Karen Magnussen and Janet Lynn did in their day are lost. They added so many little things to their skating. Each skater had a distinct style and flair that not only made their programs interesting to watch, but beautiful and flowing at the same time. It's too bad that not many of today's skaters pay as much attention to detail.

I can't imagine they get lower base value and it seems from reading the rules on levels that both flying sit and dath drop get a feature for spins because it seems a feature of a flying spin is landing on the opposite leg to the one you took off from, as is landing on the same leg that you took off from  Maybe it's the ISU way if saying fyling spins are hard so you deserve to start off with a feature under your belt?

Standard flying camel does not get a feature.

But pretty much any flying sit variation will get a feature for the fly.
