2026 World Figure Skating Championships | Men's Short Program

I jinxed my child by bringing the same banner towel into the arena that cursed him during his Oly SP 😭😭😭
Every time I go against my better judgement and try to convince myself I'm being silly for being so superstitious something like this happens

I'm so relieved and thankful that Shun pulled through for the SP (especially considering his practices and warmup)

To make things worse I missed almost the entire first group of Men (all but Nordeback) because after waiting for over an hour in line to get in, security made me go back outside and stand in another line to pay to store my camera...the same camera that was allowed in for Day 1 practice, the Women's SP and the Pairs SP
I was really looking forward to seeing Dias, Younghyun and Yudong skate 😭

I'm so upset and devastated for Kao right now I don't know if I should go back to watch the Pairs FS...I fear I might curse YunaSumi too 😭

Sorry part of my post is OT...I'm so sad I don't know what to do with myself

😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
We feel for you and Kao..... Mark is right...everyone can have a bad day....

:console: Go watch the pairs if you're there, what other can you do. Jinxes are fake, ice is slippery and that's it.
I heard many complaints about messy organization, I feel really sorry for those of you who missed skating because of that, it must be frustrating.
My dad was a pilot like me...he said he didnt believe in surperstition...as long as you put your left shoe first on in the morning....but you are right in the end....the ice is slippery. ☹️

What's happened to the commentary?

That was amazing from Aleksandr - stunning - hope he's properly rewarded with PCS
For a very short time I was able to enjoy the performance without the constant commentary from Mark and Tonia. Do they need to tell us what jump has just been done? I’m sure everyone watching is either a skater, ex skater, or knowledgeable fan. Why don’t they stay silent until the replay (as Ted Barton always does)? This continuous chatter really spoils it for me.

I'm not 100% sure how it works but I believe they are obligated to comment during performances at events of this rank, they don't make the rules, it's not the matter of commentators' choice. As for junior events, there are different rules for streaming of those.

Adam got 8/9 5s for stsq. Ilia too and I don't find it amusing at all. Just let him win with his jumps, don't pretend he skates like Adam and a few others...
What step sequence bullet points do you believe Ilia was lacking? Because I thought that was an excellent sequence. Free and easy, musical, and properly interpreted and fused into the program. Honestly, one of the best steps I've seen him do.

I'm not clever enough to list and count the bullet points for a step sequence, so I'm interested in where you saw the deficiencies.

Kagiyama did everything then failed on the final jump a measly 3A he was probably on PB pace.

Ilia was untouchable made it look way too easy.

The highlight for me was probably Adam because I know how much harder it is for him and it was close to ideal. Ilia I kind of expect 110+ everytime at this point but he was tremendous. I just take it for granted in any event but the Olympics.

Selevko was really strong too and made a good impression on the crowd, but just the single quad I didn't expect him to have such a lead with such content.

Nika totally choked again like at the Olympics. A shame.

Ted is very unusual in his approach to commentary, unique in pretty much the entire history of figure skating commentary. From what I understand, his particular approach was impacted by the fact that he started, and continues to do most of his commentary on the Junior Grand prix, and therefore wanted the skaters to have video footage of their International experiences without a lot of commentary or critique. When he has been called on to do commentary at the senior level, he has been instructed to provide more commentary during the actual program itself.

Compared to most other commentators, particularly of the American variety, Mark and Tonia are very reserved, respectful, non-dramatic, and definitely don't talk as much throughout the programs.

Just got done watching the replay. I refused to give up my sleep this time.
Enjoyed Adam and Selevko. Fantastic. When both of them skate those shorts clean - they rock. Really rock.

Don't think I didn't see you go clean, Torgs.

Poor Kao 😢. What can we do to make him more consistent? What a bad day to have a bad moment.
And poor Yuma. Slapped the ice with his whole body, that must have been a shock.
Shun on the other hand, oh my goodness, his skating is so light, almost as if he is not using any strength, not forcing anything. I'm so glad I got to see him live.
Adam was also fantastic and that makes me nervous for Saturday. But hey, let's enjoy it while it lasts! Great strong skate, more of that in the future please.
Ilia was great as well, big, confident jumps, no sign of post-olympic nerves, it's safe to assume he is going for third title (I'm not entirely convinced this was 46 PCS kind of program tho).
My favorite of the day was probably Sasha Selevko, I didn't check protocoles, but I hope he got lots of 10s in presentation.

Stupid work has been making me WORK, so thus far I've only been able to watch bits of the replay.

Ilia looked just wonderful! IMO he seemed stronger, more focused, and skating more within himself. So proud and happy for him.

After what happened at the Olympics, some skaters might have gone into hiding until next season. Ilia proved today that he's got real guts underneath the bravado, so good on him.

Wishing him all the luck in the galaxy for the LP! :cheer:

Thank you Saine! French coverage is better than no coverage. Now if anyone has the pairs long, that would be great as well. Not sure why the CBC website doesn't have them, they had both links yesterday very quickly after. Very frustrating.

Edited to add, the pairs are up on the CBC website but still no men's. So....French it is!!
