Where is Mira Leung? Is she competing this season? We haven't heard anything about her for a loooog loooog time.

Any tips? :chorus:

Is BC Sectionals the qualifying event for the Nationals? How many can advance to the Nationals?

It is the first qualifying event. If she qualifies at Sectionals she will have to go on and compete at the Challenge event in December. If she qualifies there then she will get to go to Nationals.

So there is a possibility that Mira Leung will not be able to go to the championships? ;___;. I want her to go to the olympics to show the newly improved Mira.

Yep, there is a chance that she may not compete at Nationals. There is also no way that SC is going to send her to the Olympics, sorry. Phaneuf will be going.

We won't know if she's improved until she competes. She hasn't since January 2009.

What happened with her? I hadn't heard anything and figured she hadn't competed yet... Injured? Lost the drive? I always rooted for her because she just seemed to have so many obsticles...and why would Canada send Cythnia to the Olympics over Mira? Hasn't Mira been the number 2 skater forever? Didn't Cythnia finish like 7th at Candanian Nationals?

Well I believe Cynthia was #2 at last year's Nationals. That's how she was able to go to Worlds. I remember her falling quite clearly just a few feet in front of me. ;)

Mira was 6th at 2009 Nationals, so she's not on the 2009-2010 Canadian National team. That's why she hasn't received any international assignments.

Here was her score: 130.43 (48.76, 81.67). That's even lower than Emily Hughes' score at 2010 North Atlantic Regionals.

WOW... I cannot believe I missed that... I must've been in a snit or something... I hope she makes a strong comeback. I always liked her... tough girl, lots of obsticles and she just kept plugging along...

What obstacles? The problems that she has encountered has been because of her stubborness and unwillingless to listen to her coach and Skate Canada. I think she is only her third of fourth coach in the past two years.

Stubbornness and the unwillingness to listen to your coach is a problem that many skaters seem to have. I get the sense that it's a common issue.

Do you know her or the people who've worked with her? I'm just curious, neutral. Mira's skating always looked a bit heavy/stiff to me.

It is well known that Mira has always listened to Mira's mom more than her coaches.

The fact that Mira ( thanks to her mom again ) isolates herself from other skaters ( won't go into change room with the others etc) also does not help. You can learn so much from the changing room banter.

That said, I also think that her most dominant coach over the years , Joanne Mcleod has added to the problem. I don't think that even if Mira socialized and listened to Joanne she would have advanced that much under Joanne ( see Kevin Reynolds as an example)

While Mira often has not listened to Joanne, the same can be said that Joanne does not listen to the messages the judges say. Joanne has constantly whined about her skaters' PCS marks and UR calls. ( Kevin Reynolds especially ) while overlooking the fact that the basic skating skills of some of her skaters ( Kevin and Mira especially ) are weak.

When Mira last left Joanne, Joanne said that had Mira listened , she would get Mira to do triple triple combinations the following season. That shows that Joanne had unrealistic goals for Mira. How can Mira do clean triple-triples when she often struggles to even rotate her isolated triples fully.

Jumpwise, the first thing that needed fixing is Mira's axel. However, seeing how all of Joanne's students struggle with the axel, I don't think Joanne could fix that problem.

I don't care for Mira's skating, but will always root for her!

I feel like she's surrounded by a bunch of high school bullies, in this case, so-called skating 'fans' with herd mentality. The high school bullies always single out kids who are different from them. Mira is different. She does not look pretty on ice. She is stubborn. She does not always play nice before press. In othe word, she is totally different from the other skating princesses. The bullies(some skating fans in this case) always want to punish those who are different.

Go Mira!! :laugh::laugh:

I like "different", but that kind of different is hard to like, don't you think?

I'm not criticizing Mira as I don't know if those off-ice traits and rumours are true. But as a skating fan, it is hard to like someone who isn't "pretty" on the ice--her skills aren't bad per se, but there is a stiffness and impatience when she's performing, as if she's anxious to get all her elements over with.

And TBH I haven't seen skating fans "bully" and "bash" her. She's hardly on the radar of most followers...

Well, if you haven't seen skating fans 'bully' Mira, you probably haven't visited the most 'popular'(shudder!) skating forum yet. I'm not talking about this forum. So-called skating 'fans' have mocked, bashed, ridiculed, and bullied everything about this poor girl. Her appearance, her dressing, her mom, her skating, her manner... It's the typical mob mentality at work. Since she's so 'unpopular', every 'fan' feels obliged to stick a fork into her to prove their political correctness. It reminds me of life under the Nazi(or any totalitarian regime) era.

I'm rooting for her not because of her skating, but because of an obligation to fight the mob mentality, the bullies.:rock:
