I have never been a huge fan of Joannie. To me, she looked too athletic, too stiff, and seemed to lack artistry. But When I saw her in China weeks ago, I fell in love with her tango (and her costume) even though she made mistakes and got low score. Who choreograghed her SP? Isn't it perhaps Shae-Lynn? It looks like her style. Whoever choreograghed it, he/she did a terrific job and seems to have made considerable efforts for it to look good on Joannie.
When I first heard of Joannie's music choice months ago, I knew it will sell (and I actually said here that she was very smart in choosing her music!) Who wouldn't like Tango? It is a very smart move to choose popular, emotional, audience-apealing music (e.g. tango, gypsy, flamenco, etc.) especially in Olympic season. Good job, Joannie!

who cares about the number anyway. Much as people like to compare, scores really aren't that comparible from event to event. Different callers as well as different panels of judges might make different calls or dole out different GOE's. If she got 75 points or 55 points, i would say something is off, but it seems to be in about the correct range for her skating.
At the end of the day, she is several points superior to Alissa and that is what she received. Whether it was 66 vs 70 or 60 vs 64 or 68 vs 72 it does't make all that much difference.

Joannie's pcs 31.60 and Alissa's 26.92 and Akiko's 23.20
especially Akiko was a champion in COR, joannie 3rd though.
what makes a difference between 31.60 and 23.20 ???

Rochette's score might in a weird way take even more pressure off Czisny. The judges seemed to have made a statement that Rochette could basically skate onto the ice and throw up tomorrow and still win. Nothing Cizsny can do about that ...

Yes, but she needs to outscore Rachel and Akiko has to be lower than 4th. Both are possible but who knows what will happen?

I know we all don't like to admit home country advantage, but come on! How else can you explain Lacoste and Phaneuf over Suzuki? No, seriously. Can anyone explain this to me for any other reason than because Suzuki isn't Canadian?

Yup. And I wouldn't count Akiko out. Everyone in this event except Joannie is so erratic anything can happen tomorrow. (Erratic but all full of potential. Makes for an especially unpredictable event.)

Well Suzuki had two mistakes in her program (toe axel and a flip out). I would imagine her spins also did not have the highest levels. Audience reaction does have an influence on the marks and I would say the audience reacted more to the two Canadians (naturally).
It does no good to compare scores from different competitions. So we really shouldn't be even bringing Yu-Na Kim into this conversation. She isn't here.

If Sasha can do it (71.12 at 2003 Skate Canada), Joannie certainly can too I think!

But yes she needs to get 110.80. Definitely doable, especially as the judges seem to be giving her the benefit of the doubt in this competition. She may not even have to be perfect. But she certainly has to have a great skate ... sigh. It's just as good a bet that Akiko will have an amazing FS and finish 4th or higher, ruining Alissa's chances.On the other hand ... so what if she gets silver but doesn't make the GPF? At least that way she'll head to Nationals on a good note.

Akiko also got a wrong edge call on her lutz. So that was three jumping errors.
Except ... Sasha was so much better IMO than Joannie at everything except jumps.

Well, IMO, the only edge Cohen has ever had on Rochette are her spins and flexibility (which isn't even a major factor in skating to me). Aren't opinions great?
