Any Sasha updates?

Here is Sasha's Silk "smoothie" commercial.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0P84c3AXnl0

It's good to see atleast one US Lady has a few endorsements and appears to be newsworthy. ;)

Thanks for posting this, janetfan, I love this product. I didn't realize Sasha even had a commercial about this. Silk is everything she says & more. My mother uses it to prevent osteoporosis. And I know it tastes great with smoothies.

By the way, I do believe Sasha when she talks about the importance of keeping up one's energy/muscle mass/et al. Everything she stated is not only true for an elite athlete, but for a regular person as well that just wishes to keep healthy & happy. Lol, her mention of electrolytes at the beginning reminds me so much of my eldest sister, whom is only telling me to drink a lot of lemonade because it has a lot of electrolytes in it (Paul Newman's is my favorite btw) to stave off colds/illness/etc. My sister does a lot of medical transcription so she knows quite a bit about the human body & all the little details, which she loves to share with others, lol!

Back on topic, from what I've gathered over the years per articles/media/magazines/et al, Sasha is a perfectionist when it comes to her body & what she intakes. I recall reading once how she snacks on healthy foods when she's on the bus touring between city to city. And she has no problem requesting from the waiter/waitress exactly what she wants & doesn't want on her plate. :)

I do admire how Sasha takes care of her body, complete with eating right & doing yoga, et al. I love reading about these kind of things. So once again, thanks, janetfan, for posting about this!

ps: I'm always blown away when I see skaters live...their skin just glows with health....likewise their hair. Those are the signs of a very healthy person, likewise the eyes.

In my humble opinion, realistically Michelle had zero chance of being able to skate in 2006. But with the type of injury she had, some days she felt better than others, some days it seemed like maybe she was on the mend after all, and there was always the hope that a miracle might happen. I think that Michelle hung onto that fragile hope as long as she possibly could, and did everything within her power to prepare herself just in case Providence intervened and caused the lame to walk. :)

When that didn't happen, she withdrew in a timely fashion and with as much grace as she could muster through her tears.

I agree with everything said here EXCEPT the "timely manner." I have to wonder if it wasn't very clear before she traveled to Torino that it wasn't going to work. And I didn't think the fall in practice that was supposedly the straw that broke the camel's back really did break the camel's back, so much as just being something concrete that could be pointed at to say, "Here, it was this fall that did it, if I hadn't fallen I would've been fine."

Though in general I think Kwan does everything with grace and consideration, in this case I wasn't convinced of her real competitiveness for gold long before she was named to the team.

Which is such a shame for so many reasons, but to name reason 9,999, it's sad to me that Kwan's career being competitive for the very top spot lasted for SO LONG, but not quite through 2002. Interestingly, Arakawa was also at the '98 games but not as a podium contender, but she was able to clinch the top spot in 2006, so she also had a long career, but it was more of a climb whereas Michelle was on a "plateau" at the very pinnacle for a long, long time. And that's why I'm talking about her on the Sasha thread instead of on the "Did Michelle not winning Oly gold tarnish her reputation thread?" -- which, BTW, it didn't ;).

Yes, that sounds very much like Sasha. I think she is perfectionist in almost everything in her life, which is why she cannot settle for a C-list acting career or a spiral that is 179 degrees. But as for requesting what she wants on her plate...I am the same way and I am not an international skater!

Mathman, who do you think has an eye on the ladies OGM other than Yuna? Are Miki and Mao and Joannie all thinking about it? I doubt that any of them believes that they could beat Yuna, because that doesn't seem to be possible.

did anyone really think someone like Paul Wylie would be on the podium in 1992 when Kurt Browning - three time world champion - was not? (and wasn't even top 5!)

seriously olympic ice does some strange stuff... the skate gods mess with our heads as fans... here we are sure as to who will win and then... wow Sarah Hughes wins the whole thing.

Wow...not only is Sasha gonna "change society," she is the only one promoting Figure Skating in the US so she's gonna save FS too!!! Busy gal!

I agree having Sasha back will help bring interest to Nationals, if she shows up, and she will be a front face for the US media if she makes it to the Olympics. Everyone loves a good comeback story, and we all know Sasha loves the spotlight, so perfect match!

Michelle does not owe USFSA or her fans a thing. If she decides to pursue commentating, that may bring some fans who have lost interest back just because it's MICHELLE at Worlds, etc. But Michelle is pursing bigger things, and who knows, she may have a greater impact on the World outside FS when all is said and done. As much as I wish she would join a skating tour, she deserves to focus on herself and her future goals, even they take her outside skating. Sasha most likely will return to SOI, which has been losing steam lately, so she HAS to do all the fluff events and endorsements she can, whether or not she can complete this comeback-and don't think for a second she was doing them for free.

Hearsay info about Sasha Cohen that's been passed along to me: she was sighted working on footwork with Lori Nichol at a southern California rink last weekend.

Footwork isn't as exciting as JUMPS. If I heard that Sasha was seen landing 3flip-3toe then I'd get excited...

Does anybody think Michelle went to skate in Korea for free? ;)

Michelle was doing the same thing four years ago that Sasha is doing now. Michelle was trying to skate in a third Olympics.

Sasha is trying to skate in the Olympics again, just like Michelle did.

Now Michelle is in grad school and preparing for life at 30.
Sasha is not nearly that old yet. She is doing just what Michelle did four years ago.

Maybe she is being as unrealistic about this as Michelle was. But everyone should have a chance to pursue their goals and dreams.

Sometimes I wish Michelle's fans were as gracious as Michelle always was.
That would be setting the bar pretty high but it would be nice. :)

Of course not...you are the one that felt the need to add that Michelle made $$ showing up in a Korean show a couple pages prior.

I have zero issue with Sasha attempting a comeback. Will I root for her for Olympic Gold? Probably not. But that has NOTHING to do with Michelle. What I take issue to is those who constantly feel the need to interject Michelle into these discussions, either to put her down or use her as an example in order to boost Sasha and her motives up.

There is a big difference between 2006 Michelle and 2010 Sasha. Michelle was not absent for 3+ years heading into the 2006 Oly; she was absent for 10 months. Everyone basically had an idea of what to expect from a 2006 Michelle. Unfortunately, her injuries proved to be too severe for her to overcome. Sasha has not shown us much since 2006, so we have no idea what she is capable of. If her SOI/fluff events are any evidence, it's not promising. But I don't think we can judge based on that because very few have seen what she is doing in practice and how severe her injury really is.

I really have no expectations for Sasha but I do hope she is able to skate. I think it will really add a little extra excitement at Natls.

I think it would raise the level of interest with the public too and our girls could certainly use that. They are practically unknown except by skating fans.

So if Sasha skates and comes in 4th she won't make it. But it could still help give a little validity to the two who get to go and create some interest in them.

I see that as potentially a good thing.

Is Sasha the only US lady with an endorsement deal?

Of course not. It's up to the company how they market them, some are visibly used, and some not so much. I know Rachael Flatt is endorsed by MAC Cosmetics but no idea about the rest of the eligible skaters, although I imagine they do have sponsors. The last US skater I've seen on TV doing a non-skating endorsement has been Kimmie-Subway and Under Armour. And Michelle with Kraft. But those ran a few years ago.

Is Sasha the only US lady with an endorsement deal?

I wish Alissa had a few since she is the reigning champion.
But I have no idea......

Sasha has a few deals and a big sponsor in P & G.

The truth is our current girls are not very well known. I think they depend on the money they get from US Skating and what their families can afford to pay for their training.

Maybe some others know more about it

Given that Rachael has a rather big sponsor-MAC Cosmetics and also is a spokesperson for the "Reading Is Fundamental" campaign, I would imagine Alissa has been approached by sponsors. We don't always see every sponsored individual being used in marketing campaigns.

I don't think Alissa is really into all the endorsement/tv stuff, she seems pretty old-fashioned. I know she said she only agreed to be on Ice Diaries because she needed the money for her training.

I'm sure if she wanted to she could have a lot of endorsements, she's so pretty! I personally think she should get some toothpaste or mouthwash company to sponsor her because she has a perfect Colgate smile

I know! My mom always says she should do a commercial for braces or something with that perfect smile.

So Alissa COULD have endorsement deals if she wanted to, but she isn't into that nonsense? I'm not sure about that.

Mathman knows alot about Alissa so he can fill in - but afaik, Alissa's family is not wealthy and if she could make extra money to help pay for her training I have a feeling she would probably consider it.

I think she is a very pretty and photogenic young lady and it is surprising that she hasn't been in commercials. But there is a difference between being a Natl champion and a World Champion or Olympic medalist.

Didn't Alissa appear in a few print ads for those jackson hinged boots she had a few years ago? She loved them, and was the first (and I think only) elite skater to actually try them, but didn't they mess up her jumps or something? Do they even make those boots anymore?

Alissa models with an agency and has done some travelling in the past to participate in modelling competitions. She also has done some modeling for MAC:

Here is what she wrote in the journal on her website about sponsors and modelling:

"From there, I flew directly to Montreal, Canada for a photo shoot with Mondor. (I had done a photo shoot for a jewelry advertisement also this past year and a few modeling jobs with MAC, and some modeling jobs during the Red Bull Air Races and the NASCAR races at the Michigan International Speedway, but not much more than that because of time and scheduling conflicts. A new Michigan law has brought much business from the movie industry here; and I did some auditions for films, but I could not commit to any time schedule because it would take away from my training time before the Grand Prix competitions.)"

She is the most photogenic American lady. She's gorgeous!

Yes, Jackson does still make those boots and they have worked with Alissa in the past and made a boot just for her. She's stated that the hinged boots made her ankles extremely strong.
