Like many of you, I really enjoyed Alysa Liu's SP this season, which she skated to Promise by Laufey. Madeline Schizas also used Laufey's music (Goddess) for her exhibition program. I had never heard of Laufey before, but I looked up some of her other music, and I quite enjoyed it, so it's now part of my usual playlist. I was just wondering if anyone else had been exposed to new-to-you artists and/or pieces of music from this season's skating programs that are now part of your usual rotation.

I began listening to Eternal Eclipse about 3 years ago when Cha Jun-hwan skated to “Fate of the Clockmaker” and “Cloak and Dagger”..

And also Vas when Daisuke Takahashi skated to “In the Garden of Souls” in 2011..

instrumental, meditative .. I enjoy it from that perspective

Laufey is popular enough to headline at Madison Square Garden this fall for two dates (with actor/singer Suki Waterhouse opening) although I had not heard her music before Alysa skated her SP. BTW, her name is pronounced Lay-vay (it's Icelandic), although she said in an interview she is happy people are saying her name, even if it's mispronounced. I am enjoying her music too and glad skaters are introducing new artists to the skating public

I could probably think of many a piece here and there which I was introduced to through figure skating but on a larger scale I discovered Japanese modern music through Yuzuru Hanyu who is such a great ambassador to Japanese culture in general. Lots of anime and game music he skated to which I adored, but also Tashl, Miya, and others.... This season in particular I started to listen to Kenshi Yonezu, a current Japanese superstar I got to know through Yuzuru creating a music video with him to Bow and Arrow, the opening song of The Medalist "figure skating" anime, which was also skated to at the opening of this year's WTT, visibly honouring Yuzuru's choreo.
But I admit I got curious and researched Yonezu's other work a bit, and added quite a few of his pieces to my playlists, and many times these days I find myself working with his music playing in the background...

Here is their joint MVs with Yuzu for those interested who have not seen it

Here's another piece of music I got to know through this year's Yuzuru's show, Echoes of Life, and which I got to simply adore, Utai IV Reawakening from the "Ghost in The Shell", amazing musical sound and amazing lyrics. Ghost In the Shell is another work I got introduced to exclusively through Yuzuru's skating, with musical landscapes which are just breathtaking, simply incredible
Actually I found lots of Japaneses anime and game music is simply awesome!

We really need more anime and game music, it has the potential - when in the hands of someone great. even if they aren't Yuzu-level stars - to draw the attention from their fans and the number of game fans is huge. (Me, I fell and am still totally in love with his Megalovania ) I admit, I am unsure of what the fees these composers might charge are and cutting would have to be carefully done because of their nature. But still...
