All Brian Joubert News!

Merci beaucoup, jennylovskt! :)

It is so good to see Brian skating again!

I just wish that TV shows would let me *hear* the singer, and *see* the skater lol. They seem to think that people would rather watch a singer move his mouth, than watch a skater move his feet, which is a view to which I cannot subscribe lol. More TV skating shows are ruined for me by constant interruption of the skater's flow across the ice by a camera close-up of the singer. Perhaps that pleases some people who do not really like to watch skating very much lol.

Silvester Stallone tried to do a film about dancing once with John Travolta; it was a sequel to Saturday Night Fever. He showed the dancing in choppy little bits, so the film was not the success it could have been. I think Mr. Stallone did not understand dancing fans. Imagine if "Dancing with the Stars" constantly cut away from the dancing to show something else. What a bore that would be! I am glad that the producers of *that* show do understand that fans of dancing want to watch the dancing itself, without interruptions. Now if only producers of TV skating shows with live singers would understand that lovers of figure skating tune in to watch the skaters, not to watch the singers. One can watch the skater and *listen* to the singer at the same time, after all. Ah well, we must be grateful for the crumbs they throw us, eh? lol ;)

i like brians outfit, and he looks good!
they take the show to belgium as well?thats what i heard at the end.

The rest of the galas are also up now and we can also see Brian's infinity, which I like quite a bit (maybe not as much as Sandstorm but still).. Btw, it is suprising to see him in such good form soon after the incident.. Alleeeez Brian! :)

Also, would anybody be kind enough to tell us if Brian is saying anything new here?

While you are at it, I strongly suggest you also check out the galas of Tomas Verner, James&Bonheur and Pechalat/Bourzat.. just great!

PS: The commentators never even shut up to take a breather! I could seriously do some damage to tthem! Well, maybe not to Candeloro. :):)

Absolutely true on both.
I would take it one step further and say: Why bring a singer anyway? Can't they just play the music?
Never got that about figure skating shows. But ... I guess some people like it. And maybe this singer is actually known and loved in France.

There was way too much commentating going on :scowl:. The worst seems to have been during P/B's performance, you could barely hear the music. It was annoying and made it impossible to enjoy the trashy fun that is Andy. Also watched Florent - he's great, but I prefer Tomas Verner's Michael Jackson EX.

Major thumbs up to Nmsis for uploading these videos.

Joubert apparently has a book coming out soon - must be an updated autobiography? I'm not sure why a 25 year old needs a new autobiography, but whatever works for him... ;) Also, Brian's Breaking the Ice segment is on tonight, 11 PM CET on Eurosport.

ETA: nothing to do with this thread, but the Eurosport schedule for day 1 of Euros is up, and looks like we won't get preempted for tennis/biathlon/African Cup of Nations football/evil snooker. Let's keep our fingers crossed!

Yes, they ruined P/B's great gala with non stop blabber!
I didnt notice it was Nmsis, who uploaded them..:bow:

Back to Jouby, I think since he is so popular in France (and to be brutally frank this may be the year he is/will ever be at the top of his popularity), he might as well cash on it by releasing an updated autobigraphy.. Figure skaters earn so little, why not make the most of it, eh? (Spoken like a true financial sector employee that I am..):rofl:

It says 22.30 CET in my table, right after the Oberstdorf gala. Anyway, it will be interesting. Wonder when the recording was done? Well, we'll see

Brian looks really good and in shape.

You guys were not kidding about the commentating-unbelievable. And I will never understand why they have live singing at skate galas for the life of me.

I'm the only one who saw the Breaking the Ice segment ? Looks like they did it before he was injured, I think, so nothing on what kind of shape he's in, but still, there was some interesting stuff.

Some highlights:

  • Brian would rather be trained by TaT than have Plushy's hairstyle .
  • The most thrilling moment in his career was his first Europeans & winning a medal.
  • As a child he really wanted to be a bus driver,
  • There was something about toys, I think they brought a toy robot he had as a kid and then a bunch of other stuff.
  • He likes 6.0 better than the IJS, but says he'll try to make the best of the current system. IIRC, he said the TES is more accurate now, but the judges can still do whatever they want with the second mark and overall innovation and risk-taking aren't rewarded enough.
  • Officially, at least, Brian is currently single.

(it was in French & translated)

I saw it too of course!
He also said that he would rather become a hockey player than skate in pairs with Kiira Korpi (thankfully for her he said!).
Concerning his toys, he said that although he doesn't play with his toy robots and stuff now, he's still a big kid and enjoys playing video games.

Don't look a gift horse in the mouth, Brian.

Oh, the Kiira Korpi question! I should have mentioned that, too... BTW, I must point out to those who did not watch that Brian didn't bring up Plushenko's hairstyle - he was asked to pick between having hair like that and TaT as a coach. He did say that if it works for Plush, why not...

I understand the point with the toys was that he's keeping them to give his kids one day? Awwwww, that's so sweet. Except maybe not the ones he painted with red nail polish? (said polish representing blood, for those who didn't watch).

I'm confused. IJS has been a gift for Brian? He's always mentioned as being more of a 6.0 skater. He's worked hard to adapt - his spins are much better than earlier in his career and he does what he needs to get the levels up. But I'm guessing what Brian really wants is to be able to go on the ice, do a bunch of quads and triples and some fast, entertaining footwork, skate a fun concept program without constantly thinking and calculating, and just put on a great show for the audience. Brian's favorite skater - mentioned again in the interview - is Alexei Yagudin, who is really the classic 6.0 guy (though maybe he would have adapted well if he hadn't been forced to retire).

Brian's not a finesse sort of guy and he didn't grow up with the requirements of the IJS. This is by no means a system that rewards his strengths. It's a testament to how hard he's worked to improve his skating, and what a good job some of his coaches have done, that he's done so well despite that.

As for PCS, come on, there are skaters who are gifted way more than Brian ever has been.

ETA: you might want to watch the actual interview, because I'm not sure what I think he was trying to say is coming across correctly in my posts (the interview, as I mentioned, was in French with what was apparently a simultaneous translation). Either that, or wait for Natacha to drop by and clarify it! :)

This is my last post for today and for the decade, too, so: Happy New Year to everyone at GS! I hope all the people who make this a fun place to visit - and Brian too, of course - will have an excellent 2010 and a wonderful decade... :party2:

No - the TES vs the PCS comment. He says that judges tend to do whatever they want with the PCS, but the TES are more accurate. More often than not, he's marked higher on the PCS relative to the field than on TES - and I really don't see how this is arguable (so essentially, according to him, what benefits him is not the accurate part, but the part where "the judges can do whatever they want). As for other skaters being more gifted here, I really don't see how that renders my comment any less accurate.

He's definitely more of a 6.0 skater than a COP skater.

I think it is Plushy and Evan - may I call them the " CoP twins" ;) who like the new system better.

Where did Plushenko say that he likes the new system better?

I can only say that Plushenko adapted the new system better than many other skaters. But he was definitely a better skater under 6.0 system.

And NO, you may not call them twins in any kinds of forms. Plushenko is one of the legendary skaters in the history which Lysacek will never match ever.

I think they are like twins - according to you they are both very tall and anyone can see how they both like to flap their arms every chance they get.

Happy New Year funny girl :)
