Any Sasha updates?

I don't think Sasha will get at least 6 points for a 3lz-2t with an "e", Mirai's flutz is nowhere near as bad as Sasha's and she's been getting GOEs in the negative 2s this season for a nice, big lutz that takes off the wrong edge. The same thing has happened to Lepisto, an "e" means the GOEs will be around -2, an "!" will be about a -1. If Sasha's lutz is like it used to be, she deserves an "e" not an "!". Plus Sasha's jumps are puny to begin with and then with the flutz that combo should be worth about 5 points, internationally. At nationals they might ignore it. I'm not so sure though because Caroline doesn't get great scores at nationals and I think it's because of low GOEs and her occasional flutz. I also think even Caroline's jumps are bigger than Sasha's...

PCS is what will tell the tale. Sasha's will be high. Rachel is adding tech. difficulty to make up for what she loses in PCS. Caroline's PCS are always low. She doesn't just have bad jump technique. She is much too slow. She strikes some beautiful positions, but they won't help her without speed. I hope she and Mirai stick around for the next Olympic cycle. I like them both very much, but I think they need time to work. Ashley is the dark horse here who could - I said could- knock Rachel off the team, but I doubt it. She did have the highest LP scores at Nationals last year. Then there's Emily Who knows what she is planning?

Will Sasha be favored because of her Olympic silver medal? But she's really hasn't competed for 4 years and even when she was, she wasn't the best.

Even with an "e" call, it is not mandatory to take a -2 GOE hit. I bet Sasha gets a mix of -1 and -2, which is why I deducted 1.3 from the combo, if she lands the combo clean.

At SC, Mirai didn't get an "e" call in the SP, she did get -0.20GOE and a total of 7.10 points for her combo. Perhaps you are thinking of the LP where she got an "e" call AND an UR on the last jump of her 3lz/2t/2lp combo, for a total of 5.80. In CoC, she got an "!" call in both the SP (-0.60) and LP (-1.20GOE), plus UR for the 2lp again in LP.

Thanks for the clarification. I think the last poster is right though, if the USFSA wants Sasha on the team, they will find a way to get her on the team whether she deserves to or not. If they have different plans though I expect she won't be held up. I have a feeling the team will be Sasha and Alissa, although I think Rachael, Mirai, and Ashley are the better skaters and handle pressure better.

I do think Sasha will be at a disadvantage this nationals though, where Alissa, Mirai, and Caroline are not only better spinners but also much longer limbed, creating a better effect. These three also have spirals to rival Sasha and Alissa has good expression as well. Sasha has great presence, but is so small that she does not seem imposing on the ice.

I think Sasha will be favored because of her reputation and also her ability to pull out really spectacular short programs. I also think she will be favored because she is the last bridge to the US's former dominance in ladies skating. It almost seems that we have a lost generation with Kimmie and Emily's injuries and whatnot...

However, I don't think Sasha will be favored in a way that makes it unfair to other skaters - if anything, I think Sasha will need to be spot on to make that team. What does work in her favor is sheer star power. Sasha has "IT" the way MK had "IT" The current ladies field simply hasn't developed that ability to tug at heart strings... We'll see. I will be glad to see how it all plays out and to see if this
98+ thread ends up be justified.

Do you have any evidence to back up your continuous claims that US Skating will cheat to get Sasha on the team?

How would it benefit US Skating to put Sasha on the Olympic team if she is not prepared and can't outskate the others?

Or do you think US Skating wants to do as badly as possible at the Olympics?

How are Rachael, Mirai, and Ashley better skaters???

Are you joking???

If you mean facial, Alissa always looks like she's smelling stinky cabbage.

As compared to who else that is small????

But no one ever looked sweeter smelling "stinky cabbage" than Alissa ;)

I think Natls will be great fun

I will support whoever US Skating selects and just hope it is the Gold and Silver medalist.

I just don't see how it would be to the advantage of the USFSA or to the iSU to "favor" one skater over another either at nationals or at the Olympics.

Figure skating in the U.S. will not be better or worse off if Ashley goes to the Olympics or if Sasha goes or Mirai. The only thing that will hurt the image of figure skating is a contest that appears to be rigged.

Cabbage? I guess I'm not seeing it.

They can jump, and REALLY jump. Sasha's jumps are puny.

Bad news bears for America's favorite diva.

Are you joking???

No, they are all as bendy as Sasha, plus they have longer legs so it looks better.

I don't know what you're talking about....clearly the judges don't agree. Check out her PCS scores if you don't believe me.

That is my point, apart from Rachael, the rest of the US ladies aren't teeny tiny like Sasha so their skating has more of an impact. Sasha is the size of a 12 year old.

Not the USFSA specifically, but have you seen the results in ladies competition recently? Some of it seems pretty fishy to me. They won't cheat to get Sasha on the team, they will just boost her PCS to the point where it compensates her lack of TES if she technically isn't up to par with everyone else. I have seen too much of this in the past year.

How would it benefit US Skating to put Sasha on the Olympic team if she is not prepared and can't outskate the others?
To show that you don't have to be a teenager to excell at skating, to boost tv viewings at the Olympics, to raise more money for US figure skating.....there are so many benefits. Sasha is famous and that alone makes her a more desirable member of the team than anyone else.

Or do you think US Skating wants to do as badly as possible at the Olympics?

Do you think US skating wanted to do as badly as possible at worlds last year so that there would only be two spots for the ladies this year? If they really cared about results at a big time competition they would have had Alissa finish 3rd last year and not go to worlds and send Caroline or Ashley instead of having Alissa be US champion with such a controversial victory.

So what you mean is that they're better jumpers.

If you want to argue that they're better skaters, talk about their skating, not their jumps.

I would but I just don't understand PCS and how it can vary so much from competition to competition. As far as I can tell PCS scores are directly related to how good looking a skater is, what do Laura Lepisto, Kiira Korpi, Carolina Kostner, Yuna Kim, Brian Joubert, and Evan Lysacek all have in common? They are all hot, and the judges reward them for it:laugh: (This is TES aside, TES you have to earn)

LOL! So does that mean PCS stands for Porny or Pretty Can Skate. :p:laugh:

Sometimes I wonder....I never understood why Brian Joubert has those big muscles though. He's built like a football player and most of the other guys are thin. There's a video on youtube that calls Kiira the "Golden Girl of Figure Skating" but I think it should be renamed the "Golden Face of Figure Skating"

Was wondering - how much does anyone know about Sasha's new programs?
Is "Moonlight" definitely the LP? What about her SP music?

Racheal may have a 3/3 sometimes, but as to quality of jumps hers or no better than Sasha's. If seen live her jumps are very small and low off the ice. She is still pretty small and gets the rotation most of the time, but she is not a jumper like miki or yu-na or elena. I don't think I have to go into caroline's jumps and mirai, whose jumps look great to me are consistently ur or edge called. Alissa has clean edges but has yet to prove that she can rotate and land more than 3 or maybe 4 triples to a freeskate. Sure, I have no idea what shape sasah is really in, or how many triple she can land, but I would not say that she is automatically at a disadvantge jump-wise.

And this is why wuzrobbing gets annoying... the definition of cheating is to hold down a skater to keep them off a team - which is what you suggest should've happened to keep Alissa off the world team. Alissa won Nationals because the other ladies didn't do what was necessary to beat her. Period.

Alissa not a USFSA pet - if that was the basis of National Champs, Caroline (who was promoted to high heaven) would've won one by now. Also, USFSA was not happy that Sasha opted out of competition for three years or pulled out of Skate America. Therefore, what is the benefit for the powes that be to cheat for her?

Logic, people, logic. Is that so hard to expect?

Fans cannot claim cheating when a favorite doesn't win or a champ has a bad competition.
