Any Sasha updates?

I love Lindsey Vonn!! I think she is a great ambassador for her sport and she is so freakin' cute:

I don't think "America's Sweetheart" has to be a skater. Skating will still be one of the most watched sports.

I looked for the NBC clip on Lindsey but couldn't find it - but I have seen more about Lindsey on NBC than any of our skaters.

That could change after Natls - but Lindsey has a real chance to be America's next "Olympic sweetheart."

Was it about the whole Olympics, or just about figure skating. We have lots of top competitors going in other sports.

If it was just about figure skating, was it only about ladies? Besides Lysacek, we has strong prospects in dance.

I wonder what NBC's sports division thinks about it all. What if viewers took the Today Show at it's word and didn't tune in for the Olympics? ::)

By the way, Sasha was on the Today Show last week.[/Q

It was about the whole Olympics, not just figure skating. The crux of the segment was that there were no star athletes' names going into this Olympics like in 2006. They used figure skating as an example. Wasn't Sasha a Olympic silver medalist from the last Olympics? One of the hosts made the comment that those athletes never became famous until during and after the Olympics. Flatt is not famous now , but she could be after this Olympics.

sasha isn't a shoo in to make the team, she still has to skate - we don't even know if she'll do that. She says it now, but injury, lack of desire, anything can happen between now and Jan 21. It doesn't surprise me that the media isn't jumping on that bandwagon... especially after putting all of their eggs in the MK basket four years ago.

I know Alaska has a few athletes going to the olympics again this year, and we know who they are... who cares about the rest of the world... they'll learn their names soon enough.

and what about the Flying Tomato? Isn't he competing again?

Thanks for the photos! I really think she is going to become a very big star at the Olympics. I am a fan on her fb page and she seems really down to earth and is really involved with her fans. She has frequent updates and she posts a lot of pictures from her personal life - she even has one taken with Roger Federer

What a good role model.

Thanks for the heads up- I'll look around. I follow her already on twitter and she's posted the occasional update from there

I'm really not a fan of skiing in general but there's something appealing about her, can't put my finger on it

I agree! I think it's because she seems so down to earth, loves what she is doing, and seems like a fun person. In one of her older posts on fb, she discusses how much she was looking forward to eating lots of turkey and pumpkin pie. I find it really refreshing to see an athlete like her with these qualities. She is one of those girls that every other girl (inlcuding me) wants to be friends with :)

Ah, interesting to read a female's perspective. ;) I agree that she has a likable persona. We'll see at the Olys.

To try and get back ot I'm very curious to see what Sasha's new website might look like-far more professional I hope, and with more current news/updates. I can finally see the 'Coming Soon' bit on her site (I had to clear my cache and reload). I'm dying to see her programs-and also her costumes for the SP and LP! I loved the midnight blue 'Sonata' dress she wore last year in exhibition.

Also-danibellerika posted an interesting article with a breakdown of Sasha's possible jump layout at Nationals-and the points she might add up:

NBC blog "Skating by Numbers"

Of course she has to show-and hit.

While an interesting analysis of Sasha's possible program, it does beg a few questions. One, is she going to Flutz the 3Lz-2T combo? Why is that combo in the SP? I don't have much faith that she can do that combo without a Flutz. Also, comparing base point value of a program is good but what separates the very top from the also ran is GOE. Sure Sasha has about 32 base points for TES in SP but how well will she execute them? I think she's going to have a tough time competing with Flatt and maybe even Ciszny and Mirai in the SP. I am very curious to see how she'll perform at nationals after a four year hiatus from competition. It should be very interesting. Sasha, show us what you got!

Still, if she can do it well enough to end up with -1 GOE, it's worth the same as 3Lo-2T with 0 GOE, and maybe she thinks it's more likely she'd do worse on the latter than the former because she has a lot more experience lutz combinations over the years.

I agree...I think keeping the same SP jump layout provides a bit of a comfort zone since she's always used this layout. A 3lz/2t is worth 7.3, even if she is hit with an "e" call, as long as it's clean, she'll probably get at least 6 points for the combo. Her start value for just the jumps will be 16.3, and she could maybe earn +2GOEs if she nails everything, even with an "e" call. So, we'll say if all goes well, she may receive 18.3 points for SP jumps.

If Sasha opted for a loop as a solo jump, and a 3f/2t as the combo-as long as she goes clean and can get +GOEs, she may have be able to reach 17.3 points.

In comparison, YuNa's jumps have a 18.0 point start value and she has gotten up to +3 GOEs overall for SP jumps (her Worlds 2009 SP jumps got 21.4 total points).

Obviously as long as Sasha goes clean, she can make up the difference in her non-jump elements as long as she gets the levels.

I don't think Sasha will get at least 6 points for a 3lz-2t with an "e", Mirai's flutz is nowhere near as bad as Sasha's and she's been getting GOEs in the negative 2s this season for a nice, big lutz that takes off the wrong edge. The same thing has happened to Lepisto, an "e" means the GOEs will be around -2, an "!" will be about a -1. If Sasha's lutz is like it used to be, she deserves an "e" not an "!". Plus Sasha's jumps are puny to begin with and then with the flutz that combo should be worth about 5 points, internationally. At nationals they might ignore it. I'm not so sure though because Caroline doesn't get great scores at nationals and I think it's because of low GOEs and her occasional flutz. I also think even Caroline's jumps are bigger than Sasha's...

Even with an "e" call, it is not mandatory to take a -2 GOE hit. I bet Sasha gets a mix of -1 and -2, which is why I deducted 1.3 from the combo, if she lands the combo clean.

At SC, Mirai didn't get an "e" call in the SP, she did get -0.20GOE and a total of 7.10 points for her combo. Perhaps you are thinking of the LP where she got an "e" call AND an UR on the last jump of her 3lz/2t/2lp combo, for a total of 5.80. In CoC, she got an "!" call in both the SP (-0.60) and LP (-1.20GOE), plus UR for the 2lp again in LP.

still hasn 't changed my thinking--no matter what-sasha is on olympic team, no matter what or how she skates.
sorry to be a downer-but nothing has been stated or said, that she isn't going to be on the olympic team and that they won't hold her up, cheat and overlook her mistakes. sorry.

i appreciate your fans optimism in fair play-but
(i don't think it will happen) they have her in -and probably rachel,

she can flutz, ur, fall and be on team even if other skaters skate well.
