Any Sasha updates?

I think you must have been having another one of your dreams. ;)

As to Sasha's possible jump layout (should she compete at Nationals) I thought trying a lutz in this day and age might be unwise (she still flutzes apparently) but if she hits, and performs lights out who knows? She'll get dinged for the flawed lutz but should score well on PCS. She may even be going into the LP with a fairly comfortable lead-of course she still has to do well in that portion of the competition to place top two overall.

Racheal may have a 3/3 sometimes, but as to quality of jumps hers or no better than Sasha's. If seen live her jumps are very small and low off the ice. She is still pretty small and gets the rotation most of the time, but she is not a jumper like miki or yu-na or elena. I don't think I have to go into caroline's jumps and mirai, whose jumps look great to me are consistently ur or edge called. Alissa has clean edges but has yet to prove that she can rotate and land more than 3 or maybe 4 triples to a freeskate. Sure, I have no idea what shape sasah is really in, or how many triple she can land, but I would not say that she is automatically at a disadvantge jump-wise.

Elena? Elena who? Do you mean Alena Leonova?

And that wasn't my point. I didn't say Sasha would be at a disadvantage because of her jumps, just that IMO I think other ladies are better than her in the aspects of skating that should (IMO) count for more. That's it.

And the way I see nationals last year, Alissa, Rachael, or Caroline could have won and it would have been fine. It's not that Alissa won, it's that Alissa won not very convincingly and then failed to skate to her potential at worlds for a second time. And now it stinks for her because she has to defend her title at nationals this year, adding to the pressure that is already very high due to it being an Olympic year, and she doesn't do well with pressure. If she had gotten 2nd or 3rd last year, I'm sure she'd be a shoe-in for the Olympic team this year.

Was wondering - how much does anyone know about Sasha's new programs?
Is "Moonlight" definitely the LP? What about her SP music?

Apparently Lori Nichol has re-worked Sasha's 'Sonata' LP which had previously been choreographed I believe by Morozov. Nichol had a fair amount to say on Cohen's new LP:

http://web.icenetwork.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20100108&content_id=7891556&vkey=ice_news

Nichol saw Cohen twice during the early fall and again in December. The two spent much of their time together re-working the skater's free program to Beethoven's "Moonlight Sonata."

"She came to me with her music, which she had been using for a show program last year," Nichol said. "I think someone else choreographed a free skate, which wasn't working out. So I didn't choose the music, nor did I use my normal music editor, Lenore Kay. That was a little difficult; I wasn't in total agreement with some of the musical phrases, but by then it was so close to nationals, and she was comfortable with it.

"I re-did the program a lot, and tried to freshen up some musical points she may not have noticed before and bring new life to it."

Nichol was impressed with the intensity of Cohen's practice sessions.

"She was very, very serious about listening, about doing new things with her skating," she said. "My hat's off to her that she's so willing to do this at her age and with the success she's already had."

Nichol said Cohen's programs were designed to fare well under the International Judging System, where non-jump elements can rack up significant points.

"It would certainly be frightening if Sasha Cohen couldn't do a Level 4 spiral sequence," she said. "She is so masterful at those sequences; perhaps she was not used to counting off the [required] seconds, but she is now. It will certainly look gorgeous.

"We really worked hard on the step sequences, getting Sasha to shift her weight so that she could do the steps quickly. We certainly choreographed the steps to get a Level 3, plus [high execution scores] and good Program Components. Level 4 for steps, well, that's pretty elusive."

I would have been curious to have seen Morosov's version back to back against Lori's. Does anyone have examples of Level 3 versus Level 4 footwork? I'm not very familiar with COP at all.

I can't wait to see Sasha's SP to 'Espana Cani'. That genre of music seems to be right up Cohen's alley.

Lori sounded a bit bothered that Sasha refused to get new
music cuts. I am still very surprised that Sasha left Morozov for Nichol, she worked with Morozov in the past-he worked on malagueña and swan lake.

OK May I please ask a question? I really can't bother to delve through the 90+ pages to look for just this: Is Sasha showing up at the US Nationals in three days? I really, really want to see her skate once more, regardless of results. Could someone also fill me up on why people think she will withdraw during the competition? There has been some speculation.

From Sasha's interviews... I think the most we can expect is a 5 triple program (although she says "6 maybe 7", 5 is more realistic. It's not only jumps she needed to get back, but learning every nuance of the point system... that's a lot to learn... counting the seconds you are holding a position, your spin revolutions, edges. I think she will be counting on +GOEs on her spins, spirals and step sequences and a higher PCS score than the other skaters to get her to the podium.

As for the flutz/lutz issue, don't forget that it has been nearlt four years since Sasha has done this jump competitively. She said herself that relearning all of her triples was a fairly long process. Who is to say that after four years it is a flutz? The jump now could have the correct entrance edge because the old muscle memory for the incorrect triple lutz faded. With no one seeing the jump recently, it is anyone's guess.

She's definitely not going to Spokane in three days :) She said she plans to arrive there two days before the Ladies short; which would make it next week Tuesday I think? People speculate that she might withdraw after the SP due to 'injury' if she's very far behind the top skaters. It's pure speculation. She could still withdraw from US Nats altogether, we won't know for sure until she's on the ice; but right now, it looks like she's going to be there!

From Sasha forum, Lanie said she saw sasha did the SP in the show and she tried lutz, which was obviously flutz .

Pick any one of the 98 pages in this thread and read all the posts on that one page. It will tell you everything that has happened in this thread because there's nothing new. There are people searing blind she won't show up, there are people swearing blind she will and there are those that believe Sasha will pull out with a fake injury if she isn't doing well after the SP. And they're all shouting at each other for not agreeing with their version of the story......for 98 boring pages

Ant

Ant, you really know how to summarize...

The one thing you did forget was in the 98 pages we found out again that the KWEEN still rules and that everything is Kwantastic!!!  ....and then the Kwan-petition starts over the weekend, which seems to be Kwan-fusing to some.

And at the end of the day, isn't that the only thing that really matters???;)

Well that was a bit of light relief in the middle there, certainly to this Kwan fan!

Amen, amen, amen!!!! :

Ha you both know nothing. In reality everyone knows that Michelle is planning to petition for a bye to the Olympics despite skipping the last five years including nationals and she will get it stealing a place from the silver medalist at nationals this year.

Don't worry Sasha will be safe as the gold medalist which she will be awarded on a golden platter following a performance with waltz jumps and a single axel (hey she has to meet the axel type jump requirement) because of her master plan of bribing the USFSA into brainwashing it's judges into puttin gher 1st.

So at the end of it all the team will be Kwan and Cohen
