Any Sasha updates?

Oh yeah, I definately miss Michelle but I am very excited to see if Sasha still has the goods...my number issue with her had always been that she didn't fight for herself. Yes, she was always a diva but really and truly fight for it... it was like the biggest waste of talent.

But now - I'm hopeful that she's really ready to take her spot as one of the greats. It doesn't matter if she wins - it matters if she fights.

As for the rest of the field -
I look forward to seeing Mirai skate as always but she's got time and that is true for Caroline and maybe Ashley.

Alissa this is probably her last shot - will she rise to the occasion or will she not? BeBe is in the same boat - you want to root for them but then, they hit the ice, you get caught up and then SPLAT! These two are like bad prom dates - lots of anticipation, but you start looking for a ride home half way in...

Ashley is hit or miss for me - sometimes I love her, sometimes I don't. We'll see.

I am also interested in seeing Emily. Haven't heard much, but even if she doesn't skate well - I hope for a chance to scream "TA DA!" when she finishes an element... Its just not Nationals without her smug little smirk - LOVE her!

YAY! IT'S ALMOST NATIONALS!!!

I know... she's so awesome... LOVE HER!!!:bow::bow:

Granted, the jumps are limited - but to my untrained eye, it looked just as good as what I've seen this season...

ITA with your entire post.

I so hope Sasha keeps it together for her last hurrah. I'm proud of her just for trying.

As for watching Michelle skate-it's still hard for me to watch her and know she won't be there at Nationals competing. Call me crazy but I think with this cycle of skaters Kwan may well have contended with some good training. jmo.

I have never been able to watch (again) Kwan's "Field of Gold" expo from her last Olympics when she won silver-again. It's just too hard. It brings a lump to the old throat.

Since when is this thread all about Kwan? :laugh:Haha, I don't mind, I'm a huge Kwan fan and can't say the same for Sash.

We really should rename it. "will Sasha skate at Nats and how will she place which is only a foolish distraction from Kween rememberances."

Silverlake, do you have different recipes for CROW, because you are going to have a lot to eat after Nationals and more in February!!!!!!:rofl:

Dee... we are so going to have fun on GS over the next month or so, dontcha think?;)
KW, I always have fun with you...I love following your comments in the Game section of our board. It's like you go into a fantasy land.

Millie, I think Silverlake and RD secretly root for Sasha but are afraid of the Uber Jinx and therefore are keeping it highly negative for greatest payoff... one must be sneaky when dealing with the skate gods...;)

Ah, yes... when I'm sick of reading the conspiracies, bot-isms, and just overall boring proposed jump layouts, The Games section keeps me here...

*SMH* Oh come on man- this is BS and you know it :p I will not speak for Silverlake but I say what's on my mind. If I root for someone, I say so. I don't think it's any secret to anyone here that I wanted Meissner to return out of all the comeback kids, and when she wasn't around, Wagner became my sentimental fave. And most everyone knows now that I cheer for the Americans in international comps. I never had a favorite but since 2007, I just wanted the American ladies to become competitive again.

Not if Sasha goes and SPLATS at the Olympics which I think she will. Plus even if she doesn't, she will get creamed by Yuna and probably Mao, Miki, and Joannie too.

As for being a "secret fan", I used to like Sasha (less than a lot of other skaters-like Michelle :agree: - but still a fan) but I think what she is doing is childish and bratty, to just waltz in after 4 years and compete once and get to go to the Olympics (which she will), then pull right back out. I would imagine Rachael, Alissa, Ashley, Mirai, Caroline and all the other senior ladies feel the same way about this. It's really just not fair. Everyone wants to go to the Olympics, Sasha already went twice and did great, it's someone elses turn. Alissa was so disappointed when she had a great shot at going in 2006 and then didn't make it, but she went back and worked hard and improved in the 4 years since. If Sasha does awesome at nats then it's maybe almost fair, but still not really, but if she gets held up and is just about the same as everyone else, it's really not at all.

It seems that you have a "BEE in your bonnet" where Sasha is concerned. With regards to the possibility of this being Sasha's third time at the Olympics, did you feel the same way when Michelle made the third attempt at the Olympics? It is Sasha's right to waltz or as you put it SPLAT her way into this after four years---she earned that right because she won silver at the last Olympics---no one gave it to her she earned it. Why is Sasha bratty and childish because she is trying to live her dream and try for the Olympics again? I think that if she has the guts and the will power to try this again, more power to her. Why do you think the other skaters that you mentioned deserve this anymore than Sasha? She hasn't been knitting this past four years, she was skating, not competitively, but skating!!! We will have to wait for the Nationals and may the best girl win. :)

Don't even try to reason with haters. Don't bother asking them questions, unless they are rhetorical. You and I both know the answer to the questions above -- because they hate Sasha. End of story. They come in and crap all over Sasha's thread, then pretend they're something other than trolls.

Sad part of that story -- goldenskate is almost good in this respect compared to many other boards out there.

You make some valid assertions but I just don't agree with the principle of the thing. If Alissa, Rachael, Mirai, Caroline and Ashley all quit after this season then showed up four years later to try and go to the Olympics, wouldn't that be kind of beat? If Sasha shows at nationals and is named to the Olympic team, I wouldn't be surprised if we saw more of this quit for multiple years then come back right before the Olympics shenanigans.

The real thing is, even if Sasha does great at nationals, that's one competition. That would be like just considering Rachael's performance at SA or Alissa's and Mirai's at SC or Caroline's at JW and Ashley at the GPF. Everyone thinks Caroline's gone down the tubes because of ONE performance at SC this year, everyone realizes that Rachael isn't always spot on from seeing her performance at CoC, people know that landing 3 triples in the FS is not a fluke but a norm for Alissa from watching her events from the past season, people know Mirai is capable of putting on a great performance and rotating her jumps from watching her SP at CoC, and people realized that Ashley's flutz is a problem and that her DGed 2a is normal. The point is, a skater's performance at one competition shouldn't be enough to earn you a spot on the Olympic team. And if we are going to go with past acheivements consider that among the other contenders we have:
-2 world junior champions
-2 US champions
-1 US junior champion
-1 two-time US silver medalist
-1 two-time junior world bronze medalist
-1 world junior silver medalist and bronze medalist
-3 participants at the GPF in the past 4 years
-2 JGPF champions

My point is, all these things have happened in the past 4 years. I don't think it's fair to base the decision of sending a skater to the Olympics on one event from the past four years.

My problem with Sasha making the Olympic team is for two reasons. One is she hasn't competed in the last four years and this means she has not competed against the current top players. The second is even when she was competing, she was not that dependable at big events. Her situation is a little different than Michelle's four years ago, because Michelle was still competing during most of the years prior to her injury and Michelle had a shot against those competitors at that Olympics. Whereas for Sasha, we can only base our hopes on her performance at one competition. Pretty risy bet don't you think?

Totally agree. Sasha won silver at the last Olympics, but it was an underwhelming event. Irina and Shiz were great skaters, but I don't think either are of the calliber of Yuna. Plus Mao and Miki will also be at this Olympics (Miki was last time too, but she's a different Miki now) and they are both hugely talented. It's a different field, and I think it's safe to say Sasha has no chance at Gold, and probably a slim chance of even medaling (considering you have Yuna, Mao, Miki and potentially Joannie and Carolina if they are having a good night, not to mention other spoilers). Her flutz may go unnoticed at nationals, but if it's like it used to be, internationally she'll get called out for it and I mean an "e", no just a "!". This is yet another reason why I'm angry. I can only imagine how pissed off Rachael, Ashley, Alissa, Mirai, and Caroline must be right now...

Yea. This year's Olympics has a very competitive field similar to 1998 Olympics, where there were Michelle, Tara, and Chen Lu (all wonderful skaters).
