Off topic but reports from the first practice are rolling in (via Twitter- what a great medium it is)

what i can't figure out is why as 25 year Woman needed help to get to spokane--why she just didn't get on the airplane herself and have nicks pick her up at the airport if she was afraid of media.
i doubt if they would have paid attention to her leaving --but arrival i understand.
what was she so afraid off.
nerves maybe-something else probably
she is a 25 year woman-not a kid. she should have been able to handle it herself at least to get on the plane.
sounds like nerves to me already.
but than she does what she wants to get the most ah-poor me, help me-look at me more than any skater.

The original report was that Mr Nicks flew home from Spokane to SoCal after the Pairs event was over. He worked worked with Sasha in LA and then the two of them flew to Spokane together.

I think he was being a little funny when he he was "putting her on the plane."
The truth is they appear to be very close - like family.

I see nothing unusual with them having a good relationship or flying to Spokane together.

How do you know that Mr. Nicks didn't have an appointment or business to take care of at home??? How do you know that he wasn't joking. Flying around the country for some is like driving 50 miles for us or at least for me ......and lastly, why do you care so much to make accusations you know nothing about. anyhow. It seems like you have quite an interest in Sasha to wonder so much about her whereabouts. sheeeeesh.

Chances are, Spokane has a direct flight to LA. I would say it would take 2 hour tops. Maybe 3 hours if they had a layover in Seattle. Sorry, I'm a airline hub nerd. :)

Now that Sasha has actually made it to Spokane, I'm excited to see the competition. And we can end all this speculation once and for all.

I think any fan with a heart can agree with Priscilla to an extent.
I like Sasha - but I like the others too.

I disagree completely with the thought that Sasha may take away something from one of the younger girls.

They are not owed anything - and let's not forget this is supposed to be a sport.
If it was only a beauty pageant then Sasha would have a better chance. But it is a competition and fans here have to quit wanting it both ways.

No matter which two make it I will feel sad for the others. But no way do I want a girl named to the team because she is "younger." They all have dreams and the two who skate the best will realize their dream. The others would be better off forgetting Priscilla's unfortunate comments.

Rather than feeling like something was taken away from them they would be better off planning to train hard and do better next season.

Here's the thing. I can sympathize with Hill and the other people making these types of comments because deep inside Plushenko's comeback makes me feel the same way. I love the U.S. men this season so much, and I desperately want them on the Olympic podium, preferably for either Evan or Jeremy to win. That Plushenko has complicated their chances makes me grumpy. But it's not Plushy's fault that he still technically superior to all the men out there four years after he won Olympic gold. And IF Sasha proves she is superior to the U.S. women at nationals, it won't be her fault either. I hope the U.S. men skate their hearts out at the Olympics. If their best showing beats Plushy - all the sweeter! If Sasha skates well at nationals and another woman beats her, it will likewise make that victory all the more notable. Her presence can only enhance the competition, just like Plushy's will only enhance the Olympics.

As I've said before, her comeback is good for the sport, ratings, NBC, et al. It's a win-win situation!

Thanks Nadine, I agree with you that it is good for figure skating and as you say a win-win situation.

Hey, may the best man or women win. Doesn't matter if they've been around for ten years or ten months. It's how well they skate when it counts. Kudos to both Sasha and Plushenko, two of my all time favorites............42

Nicely said. Judging from the tweets from the early practices it sounds like the other competitors do seem focused. I think it's great that Rachel Flatt is practicing 3Lz-3Lo combination. It would be fun to see if she actually lands one in competition.

And when I think about it more, I think there's probably more pressure on Sasha. She's gotten so much media attention, there's been so much fuss about her comeback (especially with her GP withdrawals). To do well in those conditions, a lot to deal with.

Also...

Sasha practice updates are beginning to float into Twitter. Just do a search for "Sasha" you'll find updates from several spectators.

Doug Mattis is posting live updates on Facebook - apparently she just landed a great 2axel and 3flip.
