French Pair Set To Make History

French pairs skaters Yannick Bonheur and Vanessa James are set to create history on Sunday when they become the first black couple to compete in figure skating at the Olympic Games.

Getting to Vancouver has been a long journey for the duo who teamed up just over two years ago after Bonheur put an advert on the internet after splitting with previous partner Marylin Pla.

I was surprised to see this article hadn't been posted yet, but it got buried early on today on the official website due to the horrible luge accident/death this morning.

Hinzmann & Parchem went to the Olympics in 2006 as the 2nd US pair. So I don't think this article is right.

I was jut going to post this same information. Maybe they should have said the first black couple from France or European's first black couple to compete at the Olympics.

Well, to be fair to the article, it does state black "couple." Last I checked Marcy Hinzmann is not black. Still, hottie Aaron Parchem deserved a shout-out in the piece.

How soon we also seem to forget about the current World Champion in pairs, who was also there in 2006.

But I do think this article meant the first couple, not individual skater on a team.

that's exactly what it meant - it says so in the portion I quoted "the first black COUPLE"
