Mao Asada news

I have never thought of Mao's 3A the way i think of Midori's.......which exploded of the ice and were about alot more than just spinning super fast in the air.

For that matter Tonya's 3A - even though we never saw so many of them - was a monster compared to Mao.

I think in this era it is about coaching strategy. Yuna had a heck of a good team working for her - and Mao had her mom and a part time assistant coach.

Of course Mr Sato needs time - but I wonder if the Asada's will let him take charge. He did not look happy at NHK - and if we think back Tat did not look happy at Rostel either and I think she began to professionaly distance herself from Mao and the JSF after that for various reasons. Remember Tat did not want to do the back to back to back competitions last season but was overruled.

Of course I have no idea how this is working out - but I think if I was Mao's coach we would only be doing one 3A in the LP this season until she proved she could handle the other jumps a little more respectably.

Um that Sato's usual expression. He has a -_- face. I really don't get this notion that Mao doesn't let her coaches take charge. It's simply ridiculous. I don't want to go over what didn't work in the TAT situation but it's definitely not that. On the other hand, I felt she let TAT take too much charge from the costumes to the choreography. Maybe a little less of TAT would have done her well. This relationship will work better than TAT because at least they are in the same country. Phew!

Excuse me if I am not as familar with Mr Sato's expressions as you are. Maybe I am to used to seeing Yuka - who looks like sunshine itself at times.

We will have to see but Mao has been running her own training for years now. It will not be an easy adjustment and I suspect Mr Sato is not as easily pleased as some of the people who have looked over Mao's training the past few years.

When a skater decides to go without a top coach running their daily training for several years there are reasons for it. There is a reason Mao made a change as well. She needs some help if she wants to fix some problems.

I hope Mao is able to work through her problems. The crowd in Nagoya looked so stunned after Mao's freeskate. Mao was close to tears. :disapp:

It seemed to me that the crowd still supported her through the tough program. And Mao was not beating herself up over her mistakes like she used to. I think she was not expecting to skate well, she is smart and understands that rebuilding technique is a long process. She does not seem to be surprised or panicked.

I think they should fix the lutz and leave the rest of the jumps alone. She looks like she has no confidence at all now. If you dont believe in yourself it just wont happen, no matter how good a technician is working with you.

Well, there really wasn't much to be happy about :). And as Miki88 said, that is his usual expression anyway. However, I did see a picture where it looked like he was comforting Mao, and that was nice to see....

The expression of a coach is not the most important thing. The results of an early season event are not so important either.
The "big picture" has been talked about and my thoughts really are more about this change at age 20 - after an already long career.
I don't think it will be easy and I still have my doubts about the two 3A's in the LP in a season where changes are being made and a new coach for the first time in a couple of years is running training.

I am a big fan of Mao's skating - and even with her mistakes at NHK I still enjoyed her other qualities.

Cute. One of the things I liked about Sato is that he actually gets on the ice, whereas TAT always stayed on the sidelines. I think it's very helpful if the coach can train the skater while they're both on the ice.

Here is the subtitled interview for those who do not understand Japanese.

Thanks for the link!

Yukina Ota is sitting on Mao's right hand side. :) Sitting next to Mao on the other side is Mr. Yutaka Higuchi, a figure skating commentator, skating coach, and 3-time Japanese national champion (1970-72). The interviewer in front is Mr. Kariya, NHK's announcer, according to Mao's fan forum.

He was probably thinking about all the threats and blames he's going to get from some of her diehard her fans lol

Does anyone have any practice reports or recent news on Mao?? hope she's dealing with the coaching situation better now..

I read some articles that Mao team would change their first plan and that thay might buy new room near Shin-Yokohama. Actually, there's available one of what went on this idea,so we don't know whether they bought or not. But,if they did, she practices a lot longer with Mr.Sato, which means great for her by all means. Anyway if I find an article about it, post it later.

As for practicing,I watched her training with Mr.Sato on youtube and that was impressive  summary here: 1 To used to make a straight axis, she does upright spins many times every sessions. 2 To improve skating skill, she focus on not moving her body up and down.

That's all I know right now...
