Which Skater will go to the Qualis for Japan?

i dont understand what Kozuka participation at 4cc has to do with worlds, dont the euros skaters skate Euros before worlds as well ?
It is not just Kozuka in the Q round of wolrds.

The JSF wants international judges to acknowledge Kozuka as the new national and home favorite for worlds. In that case, Takahashi shall be demoted at the same time.

JSF is sending 3 podium contenders to the WC, with possibilities of winning 1 to 3 medals. Why the heck do they need to "demote" any of them? I'd think they like for each of them to bring their best and secure as many medals as possible for Japan.

If you're thinking of politicking and deal making, there's still no reason or need for a trade off. Japan should be promoting its team without putting any of their own down.

I'm with SkateFiguring. Could you explain a little but more about what this "demotion" consists of?

Will the Japanese Federation tell the judges at Worlds to lowball Takahashi in GOEs and PCSs? Will the judges obey? If so, will this hand the championship to Chan?

What the heck is going on with a Federation "promoting" only one skater?
Do you remember 1991 US ladies sweep at the Worlds? How about a gazillion times Soviet Union had swept the Euro podioum in pairs? Why do you need to have "only" one contender, the fans got so used to the protocol thinking in this sport that is not even funny. This is an indiuvidual sport and Japan has 3 guys, which on any given day can come out in a different order, depending on a hair split, they are that close.

Will the JSF promote this year also Asada over Ando or the other way around? Give me a break, 4 years ago they were 1-2 punch, this year it could happen again, in an unplanned order.

:laugh:Resume: I think NMUra implies that this all happening with Kozuka is Canada's evil plan for Chan to be the Wolrd Champion.
I know I thought of it first but in a few days you 'd think you did.:)

It is not just Kozuka in the Q round of wolrds.
It's not a question of Kozuka participating in 4CC. JF has already entered him so he will skate the 4CC. No problem.
It is about Kozuka being chosen for the Quali round also.

Will he skate both Quali and 4CC?

I have no complaints about all this. I am curious of what the JF will do.

Unless Kozuka doesn't do Worlds, he will have to skate the QR as he will be lowest in WS on the Japanese team unless Oda or Taka withdraw, end of story.

Kozuka is not chosen by the JSF to skate the QR. He has to because of his ISU ranking below those of his teammates.

You made it sound like Quali is a separate competition. It's the first round of the WC for some skaters, as mskater93 explained. It has nothing to do with 4CC or any other competition.

JF has already decided to send Kozuka to both 4CC and the WC.

Based on the posters who read the rules carefully, it is not up to JFS to decide which of their skaters will skate in the Qualification round. I fully thrust Kozuka to sail through that round, I truly believe that is just a matter of time until he will start wnning world championship medals and be a major factor in this new quadrennial. A 4 1/2 minute skate won't affect his chances whatsoever. He is a young man, and at his age, this type of demand should be easily handled by him. We debated enough this subject and I won't contest ISU ruules, although I do not really agree with them in this case, I said on this thread Kozuka is "punished", but I was exagerating, it was mainly a joke on my part. Rules have to be obeyed, logical or not.

There are many things ISU does are questionable. For example, mixing the points for the rankings of a skater earned in junior events with senior events is quationable. Especially in ice dancing, because there is quite a gap between the levels in seniors vs. juniors. They should not count the points at a full value a skater earned in juniors once they move into senior league. But that would be another topic to debate.

If you want to know exactly how it all goes down, here is the official announcement. (Click on World Championshiups, announcement, on the right.)

http://www.isu.org/vsite/vnavsite/page/directory/0,10853,4844-182502-199720-nav-list,00.html

If you scroll down near the bottom, the schedule of events is given.

Informal practices for all competitors start Saturday, March 20th. Official practice for skaters scheduled for the prelimiary round is Sunday, March 20.

For men, the schedule of events is:

Monday, March 21, 4:00 PM, Men's preliminary round.

Wednesday, March 23, 5:00 PM, Men's short program.

Thursday, March 24, 5:25 PM, Men's free skate.

So ISU is thoughtful enough to schedule an extra day between the QR and the SP.

eta that Koz can really take this as an advantage since his advancing into the real competition is not in question at all. He has a additional chance to practice and to make an impression with the judges. He can definitely try out his quad(s) with no fear of "losing" the competition.

Looks like what Oda costs the JSF will be the expenses for meals and accomodation incurred because of the QR a Japanese man has to go through. ISU does not cover costs associated with QR by a federation.

Kozuka usually gets some ritual back rubbing and a gentle push from Mr. Sato to send him into centre ice. With you fully thrusting him, I am sure winning WC medals will be a sure thing.
