2011-2012 Program Stuff

From the Japan Open, Miki Ando's LP is Passion.

Then her SP is Black Swan.

However, her ISU bio is not updated? Does anyone know whether that is her set of programs for this season for sure?

Miki is taking this season off. "Black Swan" is her EX, and "Passion" was prepared especially for Japan Open very shortly before the competition.

Florent appears to enjoy this mugging sort of program-I don't think Morozov had to push him too hard to do the program this way.

:biggrin:There's no doubt he always liked to play to the crowd..so maybe not too much encouragement was needed..

OTOH , Morozov is a repeat offender.. ( well , he certainly offends me )

:disapp: There's very little Besame Mucho in it..and it's a pretty crass program. Too many music cuts, too much wiggling on the spot..I'm so sad to see Florent's talent wasted in this way , and Morozov's continued heavy reliance on the skater caressing their own body and mugging .

Me no likey. The audience seemed to enjoy it, they were clapping along. Maybe it is supposed to be fresh and young (showing my age here).

Thank you for the link.

Yes, Florent's music from JO is a Mexican folk song called "Besame Mucho" composed by Consuelo Velázquez

I guess you are not very familiar with that song.:disapp:

As Colleen mentioned is a very litle "Besame mucho" there, just the very first short cut and it is a very weird version of it.

"Besame mucho" by the way is one of the best rhumba's ever written, and you'll hear it quite a few times this season in the SD events (hopefully a better version!!!).
This version has a slowed down tempo to it, almost unrecognizeable.

After this supposed "rhumba", the rest of the music cuts Florent has in his programs are all latin rythms, but none are "Besame mucho", second is a samba, third is a cha-cha and last another samba.
He basically had a latin medley, like the ice dancers did a few decades ago, or last year Gorshkova / Butikov!!!
Well, Morozov used to be an ice dancer, so now you got it. He probably undusted some of his archive tapes:laugh:

If you want to hear a true "Besame mucho", here is one for you, Tino Rossi's:

Then you may find dozens of other celerities: Presley, Nat king Cole, Dean Martin, Julio Iglesias, Dalida, Kenny G, Diana Krall, even Beatles.

Some of these were even for me totally new....
I bet the vast majority I just listed are way better versions than Morozov's:biggrin:

V/M was fantastic...as expected. I prefer their opening steps from last year's version but guess they just wanted to change it up a bit...and it was still great. I actually liked C/B much more than the Shibs...they look great together and very striking on the ice...were a bit off here and there but that is expected....cant wait to see how the season plays out...

C/B look really good together and I am now anxiously waiting for their LP as well. I also liked them more than the Shib's in this dance.

Shibutanis............................ were very technically clean............................. And I have little else to say because that was officially not Latin (at least not in my book).

Seriously, if you take out the first fifteen seconds of the dance and put on waltz music or any other type of music, their moves would resemble that more than this. They're pretty much just skating and I'd be surprised to find much improvement in this performance since you either have the latin feel or you don't.

You got it. They don't have the feel for it, and even if you have you have to work off ice in ballroom to fine tune it. I doubt they took a lot of latin ballroom off ice.

And frankly, I don't take the excuse of them being brother and sister. I have seen Kerr/Kerr skate to latin OD in 2006 and they had more latin in them. It was actually pretty hot and sexy. You don't have to flirt with each other in the dance- you just have to show to the audience that you feel the music.

....
No one's making excuses for them, though.

And I find it almost a little pompous that apparently you either have the Latin feel or you don't according to you. You make it sound like some kind of birth right. It's the first outing of the season and I find it a little ridiculous and extremely assumptive to write it off in this way. herios also assumed they didn't take many Latin dance classes, or essentially that they were not very prepared for this dance...rather presumptive. :sheesh:

It's not that the Shibutanis are making excuses but many people on the forum said that it would be awkward for them to look hot and flirty because they're siblings. But I disagree because you have to go all out- forget about your relationships outside of skating and skate. If it is called a latin dance, it should have latin dance elements which consist of pizzaz, quick arm movements, and not as much smooth edges.

It almost sounds like you're arguing their technical strength is actually a flaw. I actually liked it more than I expected too.

I am saying nothing of the kind. It think it's really great that they are clean and that is what I expect because the majority of the time their technique is amazing. However, I don't see much beyond that.
